Well, the past few days I've stepped down from "Superstar" difficulty to "All-Star" difficulty. This move was definitely for the best.

Prior to the release of the patch, I had been regularly crushing the CPU opponent on the "Superstar" level, to the point where I was beginning to become somewhat bored with Live 10 (as much as I love the game).

Post patch, I played continued to play on "Superstar", but it was just too annoying sometimes... almost to the point of where I began to feel like no matter what I did or how well I played, the CPU was going to defeat me. (A feeling I'm familiar with after playing NBA 2K9 all last season)

Now, on "Superstar", the CPU just seems to gassed up, especially when playing the best teams in the league. I'm fine with superstar opposing players lighting me up, but when Daniel Gibson shoots a step-back 3 on me when he's in the Cavaliers center logo (not an exaggeration), and kills me going to the hoop on the pick an roll converting numerous and 1s, I think it's only natural to become frustrated. I played the Lakers (lost by 8), Cavaliers (won by 9) and Celtics (tied; overtime bug occured), and felt hopeless at times in each game. It also seems like the amount of missed dunks which occur are an overdose, as when I stepped down to "All-Star" there were a ton of the same scenario dunks which I cleanly made that would've clanked off the rim had I still been on "Superstar".

I believe I'd also previously said that the CPU's shot selection is questionable at best, but again, this seems to be exclusive to the "Superstar" level. [Ex. Gibson step-back from close to center] On "All-Star", the CPU's shot selection is more realistic, rater than draining numerous, well defended, low percentage shot like I'd previously experienced.

So... now that I'm done with playing on the "Superstar" level, I'm absolutely in favor of the patch... pending the fixes on the few bugs that came along with it.

It definitely, without question, makes for a better basketball game.

So a word of advice for any fellow "Superstar" difficulty users on the PS3 who may find the game frustrating. Take the step down to "All-Star". The CPU will play much more realistic, while still giving you a challenge, unlike the "All-Star" level prior to the release of the patch.

Honestly, I don't think I'll ever go back to the "Superstar" level, unless for whatever reason the things I was experiencing are corrected with the DNA updates. (I don't think they will be, but we can only wait and see)

Cliff notes:

- All-Star difficulty for most realistic basketball experience
- Superstar difficulty can make you feel hopeless at times (Can provide further explanation if need be)
- Patch does indeed largely improve Live 10
- Once the bugs get ironed out that came came along with the patch (No overtime, no points awarded when CPU goaltends user, CPU fouling when leading by 1 in the closing seconds, CPU dribbling out the ball in OT when losing, no points awarded/CPU inbound on partially blocked user dunk attempts the still end up going in), Live 10 is the best basketball game on the market, hands down.

Re the "bugs being ironed out"...have we got any official confirmation of those things being addressed? I am just guessing, but they'd require another patch? I haven't seen any EA guys confirm another patch? I am pretty sure last season they released one patch and then "moved on to next year's game". Can a LIVE producer confirm you are going to patch all this stuff?

I would imagine they'd have to..wouldnt they? I cant fathom them leavingthe stuff that the patch jacked up, in there.

This game is excellent inspite of those warts, so I do hope they take the time to do it.

I really love this years game and have not received the patch yet (PS3) but in my mind if they don't fix the issues that were created with the patch such as the OT glitch it will make this years game a total waste of all of EA's hard work IMO.

It really concerns me that EA has pretty much gone silent on the issues lately unless I have missed them responding besides we will look into it which was several days ago.

I can't blame the developers for not wanting to come around here, but I'm really hoping they're reading some of the comments and drop another patch because it's neeed even more than it was before the last one. I keep turning on the game and can't even seem to get myself to play a full one anymore.

Since the patch dropped with tonnes of bugs...a lot of people have said "will there be a second patch?" to fix everything etc.

So far they've been silent.

Their twitter stuff says "working on LIVE 11" and Marcus has said in another thread that he won't be around here for a while anymore.

Call me cynical, but that seems to me to be "see you next year fellas"...i.e. no second patch.

Happy to be proven wrong.
They are not re-established enough to pull that type of bafoonery...if they did, they would lose the fans that they have regained. 2k probably thought a lot of people would not make good on their threat to leave but that happened. Couldn't get their online servers right so I dropped em...if Live was to just leave the game as is with the known problems I would not purchase it next year. I seriously doubt they would leave it as is.

Court_vision - Could you post your impressions of playing on Superstar diff. after the patch drops on PS3? I've yet to come across other people who've been playing on that level, just want to see if you have the same feeling as I.

On another patch... I certainly would hope they're looking into these problems, and releasing another version of this patch debugged. As to whether or not it will happen... I'll remain optimistic until given reason not to be.

The fact is that the Live 10 team has been great with communication, and although some may feel like they've abandoned us, we may have to take a step back and look at it through their eyes. They're working 9-5 on a basketball video game... and although I'm not questioning their love for what they do, I'm sure there are some days when they'd just like to get away from it, go home and relax, hang out with family and friends... not come on a forum and talk more about what they've been doing all day. It's a great job, but it's still a job.

I'm positive they're hearing us, and am hopeful that we'll have a response from somebody on the team in the near future. If they weren't looking into our issues, I'm sure they'd come out and say, "There will not be a second patch, the game is staying as is"; if not, the respect they've gained this year will have been lost.

I did spot this on Garreth's Twitter, though:

@iminurbase Hate to sound like a wet blanket, but is it safe to assume that we will be seeing another patch down the line?

@thefumary not sure yet

I don't know what to believe about what this patch is causing because I hear varying stories on the same issues. And since I'm waiting for the PS3 patch, there is mystery to that patch, anyway, because this may or may not have the same effects on the PS3 version of Live since there may be different issues with the PS3 and 360 versions of Live 10.
Maybe EA re-tested the PS3 version of the patch after hearing what happened to the 360 version of Live post-patch and yanked it back from Sony to better debug it for a future release then will release another patch for the 360 to fix post patch issues, there.

Whatever the case, I just know that no other b-ball game has ever hypnotized me like Live 10. This is crazy, for me, and I go back to video games from day 1, pretty much, and my first b-ball game was Double Dribble...which I STILL have. Woulda started with Atari's b-ball game...but Atari sucked so I got Colecovision which had NO b-ball game that I remember. Lol.

Anyway, I need this patch to come down asap!

# 553 Wiffyjustus @ 11/01/09 05:07 AM
Loving running the same play and seeing it being played uniquely everytime. Feels very organic.

e.g running a down 5 for a post player, sometimes he gets great inside position, sometimes the defender is all over him. Ran it 5 times in a row and each possession had it's own individual feel.

Love this game.

A patch to at least fix the serious glitches (OT etc) is a must. We, the consumer, are entitled to a functional product. If some further fine tuning (fouls, blocks etc) can be done as well that would be great.

As far as another patch? This reminds me of what's going on with Madden 10. EA Tiburon claimed to be taking Madden, and community interaction, to another level. All of a sudden, the game comes out, and they split. The devs are nowhere to be found. If Live devs are moving on, then that's a shame to leave it as is (No OT is huuuge, especially in basketball!!).

I really hope they're not abandoning it so soon. I assumed Live devs were a little more stand-up type guys, over EA Tiburon. I hope so. But, this could all be a grand scheme for EA. But, that wouldn't make much sense either, from a business stand point. Because blatant abandoning wouldn't win any points next year.
there are a couple of legit problems that the patch has caused.

The OT issue, a small number of players appearing as "blobs", goaltends not being counted as buckets for the user, and the cpu getting the ball back after blocking your shot out of bounds sometimes.

Things like high point guard shooting %'s and foul call disparity are varying from user to user. A lot of it is play style, combined with difficulty level, as well as user error/ability.

Some people are seeing PGs light them up and are having the CPU shoot twice as many FTs as they do..others are not.

I fall into the latter category, so I cannot really put my finger on what issues people have, in that regard...although the fact that I have to bust my tail to match the CPUs FT shooting, while they get Lebron bail out calls, does get me hot under the collar, from time to time

I cant fathom EA leaving the patch as it is, it would be a horrid decision.

It doesnt make the game unplayable by any stretch, but it is a basic issue of integrity as far as I'm concerned. If you release something to the consumer that doesnt work properly, fix it.

It will be unacceptable if there is no second patch. The first one has left this game broken and it needs to be fixed asap...

I have given up on allstar difficulty vs cpu. I put cpu offensive rebounds to zero and see devin harris grabbing boards over dwight howard. I put the cpu shooting to minus seven on all shooter sliders and keyon dooling knocks down shots like he's oscar robertson. The foul disparity is a disaster. It got to the point were it was not even worth driving to the basket.

The other annoying thing with this game are the terrible menu systems. Post patch the menu systems are still flawed. Just to get subs in, or change settings are a chore.

The cpu fade away 3 pointer attempts from almost near halfcourt are ridiculous. I do not remember it being this bad pre patch. Its like you play good defense but instead of the cpu passing the ball with plenty of time on the shot clock. They chuck the ball up like some glitch is causing them to shoot.

I've noticed the near half-court 3pt shot, I only see it maybe once or twice a game. Players going out of bounds I see only if a player is cutting baseline under the basket which happens all the time with players like Rip/Korver trying to get to the other side by slashing baseline. For me I don't really have some of the issues a lot of people are having.

I can't speak for the online since I dare not dive into that aspect of the game due to the CHEEZERS that you tend to run into to often for my liking.

Have not experienced the OT bug yet so I can't comment on that.

The FT has been hit and miss for me some games I shoot more and some less.

Fast Breaks are fine for me as far as I'm concerned I may get 1 all out break with no contest maybe once a game and I am still able to get 2 on 1, 3 on 1 from time to time.

Gotta say for me, the game is refreshing after the patch and that is just my exp with the game. Peace!!!!

Geez the one time I don't run the game from the hard drive it freezes on me!

# 560 garenas01 @ 11/01/09 02:18 PM
If they don't realease a patch to fix these issues, it would be a bit contradictory with what they said in their new blog "change your game" ( because when you don't have ot in a basketball game, it cant be considered as the best one )
on the other hand, if they release a second patch correcting the first one, nba live 10 could take the crown.
