Madden 2010 News Post

Check out the Madden NFL 10 blog, which talks about the preliminary details of the 2nd title update.

Quote:
"In this second title update we focused on some of the more debated topics from our loyal and passionate fan base. We appreciate all the feedback so please keep it coming! In this update you will be happy to hear that we have tuned our Flat Zone assignments to cover the flats more effectively. Defenders will not chuck a WR if another receiver is running a route towards their zone. This will help the defender be in better position to react to a quickly throw flat route and allow him to make a play. The flat zone defenders will also play the ball better if a pass is thrown behind the line of scrimmage as well as taking better pursuit angles after the catch to prevent the ball carrier from being able to get around the corner. This has been one of the top complaints that we have heard about and realized it was definitely something that we needed to address."

Could you imagine how much trouble EA would be in if 2k could make an NFL game? 2k really takes care of their customers.
Reaching a little hard? Not only are you omitting the first Madden patch, but you're assuming the timeline for the release of patches that aren't out yet.

Here's an accurate breakdown:

Madden release: August 14 / First patch: September 24 / Second patch: Forthcoming

NBA 2K10 release: October 3 / First patch: Forthcoming

Looks a little different when you stick to facts, doesn't it?

How could you have the Ugly Jersey Bowl without the Bucs in their Orange Creamsicle throwbacks? You'd have to have an Ugly Jersey Bowl tournament or something.

"so we increased the chance of the CPU QB to hold the ball longer and actually take a sack instead of being able to get a throw out of sack pass off before he is brought to the ground."

Does this worry any one else? I don't know if having the QB hold on to the ball longer is the answer. If there's someone open the cpu QB should throw it, i think this could lead to more picks. Maybe i'm looking too deep.

I don't think you understand what he means. If there is an open WR and the QB is not in the grasp of a defender, chances are he's going to throw the ball to that WR like always.

This patch will ELIMINATE cheap interceptions by forcing the QB to take the sack when they are being brought down or being hit from the blind side. It eliminates the lame duck throws that the DL keep on picking off and taking for 6.

Seems you've made your mind up.
Why is it so hard for people to understand? I'm on these boards BECAUSE I HAVE A ****ING OPINION I WANT EXPRESSED. You got a problem? Solve it.

The ints should decrease, which is cool. Also they should decrease the pursuit on Dbs b/c they can run away from the offense guys so easily, leading to too many pick 6's.
Or they could raise the pursuit of offensive players to help.

I think everyone seeing the "Almost Sack" and yes it drives me crazy at times, but my worry in fixing this is that it will result in the 2nd patch has created WAY TOO many sacks on the CPU threads

I hope that's what he means. I just hope that fixing that doesn't lead to another problem.

I think having this patch out by mid to late November is good, because they had more times to fix the minor kinks. I love the game as is, so this is totally icing on the cake.

I appreciate the patches but it sucks having to wait so long. I mean, it's Week 8 already. The NFL regular season is nearly half over. Of course, you can always play Madden in the off-season until '11 comes out but it's not the same once football season is over.

I just had to update while having Madden in. Anyone know what that might be for? (I already had the other patch). I didn't think patch 2 was coming out yet.

Fair point. I can see it from that angle too.

I have to say it really sucks for some people who are unable to take advantage of these patches because they don't have online access. Last figures I read was something like only 35% of all console owners being online. These people are stuck with the retail code. So quit your bitching!

I guess thats why they are so lax on getting the patches out...barely 1/3rd of the console install base can get it anyway
I suppose knowing percentage of the total madden owners have xbl/ps3 online access would help determine that

Most madden players I know do not play online or have an option to do so. I'd like to think that Patch 2 is taking so long because they want to get it right.

I sure hope it's not, because the guy in the interview said that Ultimate Team won't be released until late January at the earliest.
It's a separate free update and based on Ian' Twitter, it's a separate team than the Madden Development Team.

Quite frankly, I think everything works fine... Where I think the problem lies for nearly every single guy that I've played online with the flats, screen, and slants, is that none of these guys knows how to play proper defence. I've now played at least 15 guys who do nothing but monster blitz every single play... So to counter I run slants and screens. That's just basic football... If the blitzing were less effective, people would result to playing proper D and other players would likely end up playing other plays then the screen and slant routes... Vikings, Cowboys, Giants, Ravens + Mixed D at the selection screen = blitz crazy guys who don't know D other then the blitz, which = smart players playing the screen and slants. Guess what, if you look at the Eagles in the playoffs for the past three years, they've been beat every single time by these plays because they played stupid blitzing D almost all of the time...

I just hope that if they address the flats that they don't make it impossible for players to get away from the cheese that is monster blitz because a blitzing LB will now know to break off his blitz to cover the flats...

Everyone wants sim football. Myself for one, am overjoyed at this year's game thus far. But guess what, sim means getting beat if you only use one play against guys who know football's basic rules of play...
