Well, a few things...

1. I guess it's been pretty much confirmed that the Vick/Favre stats update through the AFL DLC and NOT the patch? Same happened for me. No update prior to DLC and then I checked after it and bingo, there they are. Kind of screwed up IMO, and something I hope they adjust (for those not wanting to pay for the content...they should still get correct career stats).

That said, I really dig the AFL style. I played with the Cowboys against the Oilers. The whole presentation is done quite well. My only gripe is that it would have been nice to have some specific commentary and cutscenes to go with the presentation...at times it's an odd mix.

2. Broadcast Cam. I was one who was greatly looking forward to this. It's a nice attempt, but it's near unuseable as a gameplay view. It looks great and the running and front line defense is awesome from this view (I actually register more pressure as I can see lanes open on both sides of the ball better).

The problem is on special teams and passing plays (again, on both sides of the ball) the camera doesn't pan out enough to see down the field properly. It makes deep balls and kick return/coverage a guessing game, which is unfortunate. I really hope they tweak it next year (YIKES, I made a "hopefully next year" comment!) and make it more dynamic so it pans in and out appropriately. Also, a zoom slider of sorts would be nice so I can start from closer in if I want.

Overall, it looks very much like a last second effort to squeeze in the view. Better than nothing and probably still a boon for CPU vs CPU games, but disappointing as a gameplay view nontheless.

3. Running seems more fluid overall and it's much more fun for me. I really dig running from the broadcast view as I said, but even without that, there's a definite improvement. Defenses do indeed cover the outside better which makes speedy runnners feel like less of a cheap use over power runners (I finally feel a better balance between MB3 and Felix Jones).

4. I too (like others have mentioned) have seen new sideline cutscenes and a better attempt to stay inbounds on the sideline. It's a welcome addition. I still haven't seen any "true" sideline catches per se, but I doubt there was much they could do in a patch in that regard.

5. Man coverage seems better overall, but there are still those weird instances of warping to get into position (which probably wasn't part of what was addressed). I really wish it was more fluid in that sense, but the improvement is noticeable and welcome.

6. Haven't seen any instances of the defenders randomly turning completely the wrong way yet, so that's good.

As for the other fixes, I haven't played with sliders yet, so we'll see. Ironically, one of the key fixes in this (the holding calls on FGs) never plagued me pre-patch...lol...so I have no idea if it's different. For what it's worth, I haven't had any post-patch either though. Overall, good stuff. Seems to work pretty much as advertised.

My only gripes overall (not necessarily patch-specific) are that the Vick/Favre stats don't appear to be linked to the patch itself, the broadcast camera is a very basic attempt, and that I still have to wait for the other patch before I can really dive into this game. IF that patch works as advertised too, then I'll likely end up purchasing the game outright (still toying with a rental copy).

It's certainly one of the more entertaining Madden's I've played in awhile, despite it's obvious flaws. And if the franchise fixes and some of the bigger gameplay fixes slated for patch #2 are added, I could see myself putting some time in.

Thank you for your solid impression. (even if you are a Sox fan ) I look forward to what you and CB have to say.

i don't think you can in exhibition games, but during season mode (Legacy games) the color is normal but it still uses the new presentation and unis, which looks very nice.

Is the offensive fatigue still an issue, CB? At the end of the game, does the WRs, HBs, etc. disappear?

Is the CPU throwing the ball deep more or still throwing a lot in the middle of the field about 5-10 yds. deep?

Very good to hear. Thanks.

I have a pre-existing franchise, and loaded it up to play the week 1 game between the Bills and Pats. They automatically put the AFL uniforms and logos at the Franchise screen which is cool.

The only problem is that the game froze in the 1st quarter while I was looking at a replay. Not cool.

Keep in mind all of my comments were observations from practice mode, all-madden and I don't mess with sliders.

I'm aware.

Anyone notice a difference in hook zone, LB zone recognition/responsivness on routes over the middle?

Was that addressed at all, is that coming in a 2nd patch? or do we just have to hold our nose and tolerate it for this year.

lol...thanks

Actually CB made a good point that I forgot to mention-fatigue. DEFINITELY more noticeable.

Also, I've gotten more separation on some deep balls. I thought it was placebo at first, but I suppose this is likely due to the WR release issue that was fixed...which until I saw LBzrule mention it, I forgot it was in the patch! Should definitely add a better risk/reward to press coverages (which might have been too effective prior to the patch).

None that I've noticed. LBs still seem to have plenty of brain-dead moments in coverage overall, I'm afraid.

my replays still randomly cut...i dont know why? maybe you guys know something I dont? I went after my game against the 9ers with the Bengals, and went to save a sweeeeeet playaction pass to Ocho in the endzone. Nope got cut after the ball was almost to Ocho's hands...i was hopin that'd be fixed...no biggie was just hopin tho

I don't usually play with either of those teams, but I checked on it. I can confirm that there are blocks where the numbers should be for both those teams.

yeah, but even at 10 minutes or 9 minutes, the games are ridiculously offensive oriented. Most games I supersim end up like college games, with scores in the 30's, 40's, and 50's.

The reason I ask is because supersimming is a way of getting accurate franchise stats until the patch comes out, but unforunately the stats become a little outrageous due to the game being offensive oriented.

Hopefully in the 2nd patch. Still dropping deep in their hook zones as of now.
