NBA Live 10 News Post

Da_Czar recently had an opportunity to head out to EA Canada and played a ton of NBA Live 10. Check out his impressions, right here. Two Czarisodes will be available next week.

"Recently your man Da_Czar was invited to go up to EA Canada to have a look at NBA Live 10. While elated to have an opportunity lay my hands on the game early I also had a few demands of the LIVE team on my visit.

I wanted to be certain no one was spiking my kool-aid (berry blu), so I requested that outside of my tour I be locked away and allowed to play with no one telling me “hey this is cool look at this”. To my surprise they had the exact same thing in mind. I was shocked by how open they were with their product. As I always do I will give it too you straight... No chaser... But to the haters of the series that also includes things I enjoyed about the experience."

The off ball movement is so good that yes you can do this. I would suggest using a team that specializes in that style and that would help your success.

Learning a play or two though will be very helpful for when the cpu goes on a run against you. what I found from just going with a penetrate and pitch game was that the cpu consistenly left the worst shooter on the floor to give help which really put stress on my halfcourt offense. sometimes running a set play can get your primary and secondary scorers in better position to score and put the d in bad situations on their double teams

besides that free form hoops is alive and well in live 10. depending on the team you use I plan to go over a few plays for some teams to help get guys started.

I sincerely hope so. That was my goal anyway. One for sure unless the demo leaks early.

Great work so far Czar!

Are you getting a full version before the general public as well because i think that's the least you deserve for all the work you've put into this so far?

EDIT: how did you find the freestyle dribbling moves and the "size up" moves?

Now THAT is how you punish a team who wont run sets, set screens, use off ball movement for passing, etc..

This thread is gold man... and it must mean something for Czar to stay in here and still answer questions this long

Sup, Czar...props on all this info, mang. Much appreciated.

I gotta say, I haven't been feeling the vids, but I respect your view. Looking forward to the demo.

Trust me john Da_Czar is one guy you don't have to worry about giving a biased opinion. This guy knows his stuff man, you should check out some of his vids here on OS.

If he's excited about a game you know you are working with something special.

HMcCoy !!! Yeah and I understand even with all the improvements its just not going to be some peoples cup of tea. The great thing is there are legitimate options if something about it doesn't scratch your gaming itch... Bout time we had legitimate options IMHO

I believe I am going to get game early and that will help a great deal.
one thing I liked the most about the freestyle and size up moves are that they are very very responsive especially compared to both games last year.

The other is that even on allstar if you have a mismatch there is no need to wiggle the sticks like a mad man if you make good reads. If you overdribble against a good defender there is a good chance for a turnover and if you have a poor ballhandler he will have lose the ball animations kick in if you start getting too fancy.

I honestly cannot understand how anyone that loves the game of basketball cannot be excited about individual momentum technology, especially if they implemented it right as you said you felt

Thanks Jt he's screaming his head off right now.... so cute....NOT LOL

I did not notice that and I have no idea if there is an option to turn it on. I have noted that question however as something to look into.

Freestyle passing is indeed a wonderful invention i have no hard stats on it but i believe it to be ratings dependent on what passing animations are available to you . I will ask that also just to verify.

I know that while using it with Shaq I had 2-3 quick turnovers. i need a bigger sample size to verify that was not a coincidence.

Hey Czar, great work with the impressions man, and love your videos.

Did you at all play as, or against the Hawks? I always roll with my Birds, but despite last year being a reasonable game, I felt that the Hawks players, arena and atmosphere just weren't that well represented.

Did you get a chance see see how the players looked/ played?

Thanks man.

(and when will we see your capture videos buddy?)

Big John if that is your opinion on what I wrote I certainly can't change that. But here is why I disagree.

The definition for unbiased :not biased or prejudiced; fair

To me honesty ranks higher above the desire to be unbiased and i believe if I am as honest as i can be from my perspective then that will naturally lead to as unbiased opinion as one can possibly have.

For me to write anything other than what was written would have been dishonest because I really felt what I wrote. Now someone else under the guise of wanting to appear unbiased would have made the article more "balanced" as you requested. The issue , in my eyes, to downplay my honest feelings, in an effort to "appear" unbiased would influence the review to point of actually making it biased.

Biased in the sense that i would have predetermined that there will be equal coverage on good and bad just so that one could not make that claim against me. In short that's not how I roll. As long as you know what type of gamer I am (gameplay first) then you can understand how I came to the conclusions i did and therefore make you own decisions as to if this preview carries any merit for you.

To me, a gameplay first guy, the non gameplay related issues were not that big. And the GAMEPLAY innovations had me more concerned with attempting to win the game using real basketball strategy than being concerned with sliding here or there or a warp here or there. Which most of us can agree will exhist in every game for the foreseeable future. so if your an aesthetics type of guy those things are important to you and if it was your review you would hammer home on those and leave your time with the game with a lower opinion than I did. If you go through the article I said multiple times the game is not perfect but gameplay wise it looked very special to me.

Lets review

I started off with this

** note of interest**
These are my initial honest impressions after spending 2.5 days with the game. In such a compressed timeframe there may be things you miss or overlook. To the best of my technical ability this writing represents my personal experience with NBA LIVE 10 both good and bad.

When I played the game in at EAC I had a notepad with everything I had a problem with and every single thing on there is in that article. None of those things ruined the gameplay experience for me or dominated my thoughts as I was playing the game. They would pop up here and there. With both games last year I could hardly play without issues popping up that hampered my ability to play basketball. That was not the case with live 10 in my limited time with the game.

When I was making songs and videos writeups and tutorials for 2k from 2k5 all the way up to 2k8 I was never once accused of being biased even though I would only mention live rarely and when I did it was usually something negative because the game was garbage. I celebrated the 2k series with the same enthusiasm and passion as I wrote in this article. That to me is unbaised.

So in short I'm not going to lie about my true feelings about a game just to “appear” unbaised that is not what i'm about. If I like something I will tell you I like it and if it makes me excited then I will be excited when relaying that to you.

Now if I get the full version and after weeks of playing I find out its not what I thought. Pride will not prevent me from saying after further review this game is not that good. But if you have read through this thread I have said numerous times these opinions are from my limited time with the game.

I took the hawks to boston for a barnburner of a first half....Joe johnson is very well represented. I though his jumper was very nice. Bibby as well. I have been to phillips and i thought the lighting in Atlanta was perfect. Every arena in the game has its own feel and ATl was no different.

We were going head to head with beantown for the half i played so I know if you use the correctly they can be an effectice team. Like I said Joe Johnson was great to use and Josh rim recked somebody on the C's One thing is Josh jumpshot limitations could prove difficult to overcome once they start playing off him so run some O to get him some good looks or you may just end up bombing from the outside just to get him shots.

goh i didn't really look at any of that stuff at all man. I don't recall seeing it in the menus but like i said i was just playing games for the most part. i also didn't notice or take note of any unlockables.

Wow the amount of strategy this game seems to have is crazy. It'll be interesting to see once I play the game how deep it really is.

If its a strategic as your first impressions are showing Czar this game is really going to put us sim heads to the test.

# 257 23 @ 09/07/09 02:55 AM
Now that you say that, if you really have to approach each team by not only team strategy but individual strategy on both sides of the ball that could become very deep, especially considering the playbooks on hand, and the kind of exploits and angles the CPU will look to take advantage of.

If NCAA Basketball plays similar to what is described here, I may retire from playing any other sports games and become strictly a basketball man.

# 259 blackngoldfan @ 09/07/09 06:45 AM
Great read Czar.

If you have made any slider adjustments, are the slider bars number based this year, or do I still have to listen to the amount of "clicks" to determine my settings.

Sorry if this has already been asked.

Is it the same team working on both games or are they totally seperate?
