Maybe Redshirt can answer this.

In hardcore mode is there a way I can pass the puck as fast as the cpu can? The cpu have a definite advantage in the amount of power they can muster on their passes compared to the time it would take me to "charge" my pass up to the same power.

Seriously? Already? The Demo hasn't been out for a day and already we've got glitch goals? LAME.

I also think the puck physics took a step backwards. In the 10 periods I have played I have yet to see the puck leave the rink.

Thanks.
Thank you, I had to go thru 4 pages before I got a single impression, I have had enough of this nonsense...

I like the puck physics inside the glass, but you're right, the puck doesn't leave play enough.

So far that, along with the human player pass speed/amount of time it takes to charge up a pass/the disparity between the human pass speed and cpu pass speed are my only complaints.

Played my first game, as Pittsburgh, blew a 2-0 lead after I got into penalty trouble(The A button is now stick lift and hook apparently) and I also got into a few scrums. FYI hitting the Y button during gameplay will usually result in a unsportsmanlike penalty. I did it as a test and Guerin was skating back into the play and just grabbed Lidstrom from behind and got called for it. I played through 2 overtime periods so it was almost like a full game. I scored a nice game winning goal with Talbot(his hattrick) splitting the D with a great breakout pass from Gonchar and beating Osgood with a quick wrist shot a few inches above his right pad.

Passing on hardcore mode is alot harder as most of you like myself are used to hitting the RT as soon as we get the puck. Like others said its hard to do a tic tac toe play and I had a hard time generating movement on my 2 powerplays.

Regardless the game is 100x better than it was in 09. It seems slower and much more like real hockey, especially the boardplay.

I know it was asked but don't know if it was answered. The camera angles including Broadcast are exactly the same as last year. Broadcast camera angle has not changed. 2k still have the best broadcast imo.

Other than that the new gameplay additions more than make up for it!

Hah! I injured Holstrom and was treated to a nice new cutscene where in it flashes him holding his knee on the ice, then cutting to him walking down the hall to the locker room being assisted by another player and the trainer - Holstrom limping.

Nice new touch, haha.

EDIT: They also booed the guy who injured him when he got the puck again. The new features work as advertised

I tried to make a hit with Staal, ended up missing, and he took a nasty spill into the boards. Play continued as he limped off the ice injured.

The one thing that the game could really use is a modifier for hardcore passing that enables you to fire a quick pass (unless there is one). The pass would be less accurate (especially for non-gifted playmakers), and more prone to jumping over the receiver's stick, especially if the players are too close to each other.

Left bumper would probably work best. If I hold that down while passing, my guy will fire the puck off his stick quickly. It would be great for tick-tack-toe plays, or trying to fire a long pass up ice to try and create a breakaway on a bad line change or pinch and would only be useful when used by the best playmakers and puck moving d-men.

I know that Litty and the gang were able to change the controls up a bit last year to help with checking guys in the crease when going for the puck, hopefully they can add this.

ea needs to see this.. hardcore mode isnt very hardcore considering you cant make hard passes without waiting for it to charge up! is this an oversight or is there a fix in the works? hmm.. i like the idea of controlling pass speed but this sure is one NASTY side effect redshirt?

I'm amazed at all the new sliders. The gameplay in the demo is fantastic but with all the editing options we can increase human pass speed and lower CPU accuracy, work on goaltenders (which have some great new animations, btw), everything.

My only issue is human passing, which I'm sure I'll be able to get a hang of. Hopefully they can work on the pass speed without having to charge up.

Am I the only one who couldn't stand the demo? I am a big fan of the new pinning mechanics, scrums, and harcore mode, but I just can not stomach the same animations, presentation, awkward puck physics, robo goalies, and automatic cheese goals, any longer.

Seriously, EA needs to revamp the way the game looks because the overall package is starting to feel really stale. Would it hurt to throw in some new broadcast presentation with new stat overlays and cool pop ups ala 2K? Why are goalies still invincible? I can not even count the number of times both Osgood and Fleury made impossible saves on plays they were clearly beat. Also, anyone else notice you can still cut in front of the net pretty easily and score that easy cheese backhand upper corner goal?

I feel like EA had a chance this year to take an already amazing game to the next level by polishing up all the little issues we've been complaining about for the past two years. Instead I feel like they added some cool new gameplay mechanics on top of an already fading coat of paint.

I'm sure I'll still pick the game up because of how much I love the shot stick controls, I am just a little disappointed as I was expecting a lot more from this game.

I played the demo quite a bit today, and I'm very pleased with how things turned out gameplay wise. Very pleased.

At first I thought the gameplay speed was a bit too sluggish. But the longer I played, the more I enjoyed it. I'm really liking the passing on normal and hardcore. Man...I missed on a ton of passes. Seemed much more realistic actually having to accurately aim your passes. I can see myself having great fun with this years game.

I'm definitely optimistic about sliders solving this, though I think the default manual passing speed is a little odd. I'm sure you've been to your share of NHL games and the immediacy and speed at which these guys can fling the puck around to each other in my opinion doesn't seem to be well represented on the default configuration. It was definitely too fast last year.

As far as the saucer pass goes, it still doesn't really leave the user with a pass comparable to the standard pass that the cpu uses when it is set up inside the zone. At least it seems that way to me. And it isn't a hard pass along the ice, which is what I think is needed.

The game plays great on hardcore- with a ton of play happening in the neutral zone. I like the slower pace as well, it feels more like hockey.

I just wish EA would have removed robo goalie and added some more organic ways to score goals. I feel like we are going to have another cheese fest on our hands come September.

I only had time to play 2 games (3rd period of the Cup) and I was disappointed. Sure, the board play was a cool addition, but aside from that, it looked exactly like 09. I'm not just talking about the graphics, although that didn't look improved at all, but the same exact cut scenes since NHL08 again? Really?

It just looked way too much like 09 for me to feel like it was a new game. When I get more time I'll play some more to see if there are more subtle improvements, but my initial reaction was - this is 09 with some board play animations.

I think it's worth mentioning that the overall teammate and opponent AI in BAP is way improved.

# 160 onlybygrace @ 08/20/09 10:53 PM
Well...I got the demo and must say that this game is good as is...

but with the proper sliders will be the best game ever.

Really great job EA.
