the guys that play on hardcore allstar/superstar....I know that the USER passing is realistic...how is the CPU passing? are they tape to tape like last year or do they also misfire on passes and use bank passes?

thanks

It is not, unfortunately. It will be the level down from that, Normal I believe.

I'm just as disappointed as you are. Passing is kind of my thing. It's how I got to play div. 1 last year. I am in no way a very skilled forward. If I ended up trying some of the things my teammates were doing, I ended up looking foolish. I was a valuable cog in the wheel because of my positioning, defence and most importantly my play making.

This would've really seperated the average passers from the great passers. It's too bad.

Love what I'm seeing from hardcore mode so far. Passing is superb.

Accidentally tripped Brad Stuart but after the play he came up to me and gave a face wash. He ended up getting a penalty as well when I didn't respond and just let him give it to me. Nice to see two different penalties on the same play sequence.

Nevermind, not out until next Thursday? That's freakin' ********.

CPU is too tape to tape, especially in Hardcore mode, but I believe that will be fixable with CPU specific passing sliders.

CPU is still too tape to tape. Not as bad as before mind you, but still too accurate. On the plus side, I did see a separate CPU passing accuracy slider in the menu

Heh, I just went to xbox.com and subscribed to xbox live gold for one month JUST TO GET THIS GAME DEMO.

And it's so awesome and was totally worth it.

I've played about 10 games, only managed to score twice. Both were passes back to Lidstrom in his favorite position. I've lost all games where my team were not already in the lead when I took over though.

I'm playing on default skill level (Pro) and Hardcore style, love the passing!

I've seen the AI do some one-on-one dekes against me when I try to hit him, something I never saw last year.

Seen some great new goalie animations this year, and goalies seem better overall than last year.

Board play is great, and I've already seen how useful it can be. Had it not been for boardplay the other team would have got possession over the puck and got it out of their zone. Board play allowed me to kick it off to a team mate, pass it around and get a shot at goal.

Great stuff.

Three things I didn't care for in 09:

When you move the stick with the right thumbstick the player couldn't move his feet. In the NHL players can stick handle and skate at the same time. I'm assuming this is still the case in 10?

Only the blade of the stick had any kind of collision detection. When cutting to the slot the shaft of the players stick could go right through another players skates/legs/stick - is that still the case?

You could wind up a slapshot right in front of a CPU opponent and he wouldn't react and interrupt your shot. Is it harder to get shots off with guys in close to you?

Thanks

How is the broakcast camera? I love the other games broadcast camera anglt. That's how I watch hockey and want to be able to play video game hockey the same way.

Last years broadcast camera was in one word, Bad. Can someone show a screen shot maybe of the broadcast angle or is it just like last years?

I'm having the same problem in 10 that I'm having with 09, I can't shoot a one timer with my BAP. I played with the custom controller setting in both 09 and the 10 demo and couldn't do it either, my BAP just poke checks. I've tried playing with the default setting and I can't pull it off either. Any help?

Right before the puck gets to you, tap UP on the right stick. I made sure I held L trigger down though.

So nobody has noticed the omission of the useless Juicy one-handed deke? I think it's awesome that it's gone. A bit surprising, since it was the main picture on the back of the box last year, but happy nonetheless.

Love the demo. This game is great.

My brother and I have been doing head-to-head for a little bit...passing is really tough, but has a lot of potential.

Boardplay is a godsend.

I have always done this with no positive results, too bad for me then :S.

Ah, apparently the one-handed deke requires pressing Vision Control first. I like that. I won't use it, but I like that they made it require a modifier button press first.

It isn't gone. You have to hold LT and then you can do it.

One-timer passing...

With the Hardcore Game Style is it possible to do tic-tac-toe plays???

Seems like it would be rather difficult for the 2nd or 3rd passes to have any 'mustard' on em if they need to be loaded up.

Wow.. this demo is awesome.

I like how first they introduce to you the basics as I didn't play NHL 09. Good stuff.

I then chose Pitt and immediately they brought up the Crosby injury and asked if I wanted to play him or not. Niiiiice.

So far my experience with the NHL 10 demo has been great. Lots of "little things" I've noticed that really make this game feel like a true hockey sim.
I'll give a quick rundown of my positives.

+ Positives
You can tell the difference between a good shot blocker, an okay shot blocker and a bad shot blocker. The bad ones obviously don't lay down on the ice all the time. Okay ones will, but they get up slower. And wow, Lidstrom can get down on the ice and recover very quickly.

Defensive AI is a bit better, they take away the cross crease cheese most of the time to the point where if one of them does manage to squirt through I probably wouldn't call it cheese.

I've had defenders in front of my net bat the puck out of the air away from the net and out of the zone.

People grab pucks and when you try to clear the zone the puck isn't lobbed into outer space every single time so sometimes defenders grab it and keep it in the zone.

Board play is perfectly implemented.

The bottom six can't deke like Bobby freaking Orr.

This game punishes you for doing brainless things like passing the puck out in front of the net with 2 opponents there. They WILL score if you pass out recklessly and will do it consistently. Very good to see.

- Negatives
Some of the negatives I'm not so sure are actually negatives, just giving me a hard time.

Most of the goals I have seen so far have been pretty weak goals. I had one game where Osgood let in I think 3 goals in 4 shots and he got a piece of all of them. I've always played NHL 09 and now this demo defensive minded too. My strategy is mostly trapping and counter attacking so it's not like I don't know how to play defense. I think I've had one really nice goal so far with a Crosby wrist shot from the slot whipping it around their defender.

I've had a hard type setting up a good cycle play with hardcore passing. This I feel may be just because I'm not used to it. Tic Tac Toe seems like it'll be very difficult for a user to pull off. It's tough to get a strong pass after the first + aiming it precisely.

Computer too tape to tape without any sliders to adjust.

I'm going to go play some more I'll come back in a bit if I find more.

Is it just me or did they take out the "push the puck ahead" speed burst?

I tried tapping the right bumper (like in NHL 09), but got nothing out of it.
