NBA Live 10 News Post

As promised, we’re back today showing all of you the new dribble moves that you’ll see in NBA LIVE 10 this year. We really wanted to differentiate between players this year. What makes LeBron, LeBron? How about CP3? One of the ways in which we’ve captured this is in their dribbling styles. Let’s start with the new “size up” mechanic in NBA LIVE 10.

The size up is a series of dribbling moves used to breakdown a defender. How am I being guarded? Where is the opening? Answering these questions is the purpose of the size up. Once the ball handler catches the defender biting, he can then perform a go move out of the size up to take advantage of an over-zealous defender or a mismatch. Basically, the size up keeps the defender on his toes! In NBA LIVE 10, you perform these moves via the right trigger from a standstill position. Once you move the left stick (to move the character), you break out of the size up and start moving. One of the great things about this mechanic is that it can be broken out of at any time, or better yet, seamlessly linked into any quickstrike dribbling move using the right stick. There’s no waiting for the animation to play out before going into your next move. If you want to start that next move, you can. In the video below, you can see that we’ve captured authentic player specific size ups. You can really see the difference between LeBron and Kobe’s size up moves.

The size up is step 1 of the dribbling moves this year. Master it and you’ll be shaking your defender (especially a human controlled one) in no time. Just because we have size ups in our game, it doesn’t mean that everyone can do them. If you’re a big man with a weak handle, and you use the right trigger, you’ll do dribble moves, but good luck trying to keep up your dribble as it’ll most likely get stripped or you’ll lose control. This also doesn’t mean that the LeBron and Kobe size ups are money moves either. Again, this is a simple mechanic used to branch into more deceptive, calculated quickstrike moves. Do the size up for too long, and you open a window for the defender to read your next movement and strip the ball from you.

There’s also a couple of things in this video that I want to point out to you. You’ll notice right off the bat that there’s not a lot of off-ball player movement. Don’t worry, we have a TON of that this year. We just called an ISOLATION set in each clip to showcase the one on one matchups that we primarily wanted to capture. And finally, yes, that is a eurostep you see Derrick Rose doing. We’ll have A LOT more on the different ways you can finish at the basket this year in the coming weeks.

I really hope you’re enjoying these gameplay videos guys. There’s a lot of them left, so if you haven’t seen something you want to see yet, don’t worry you will.

This is a test of the emergency broadcast system..if anyone feels relief that this game is going to be great. Possibly even meet & exceed your expectations.I ask that you remain seated & remember that this is a wonderful & amazingly strategic marketing campaign.....ort..
ort...ort! Some of you have been elevated & brought down in the recent past -I take it.

Anyway, next video please put it on a higher difficulty!

My apologies for the premature complaining, I assume the AI is much better than this.

I did get a kick of guys defending it though!

Why would you guys release media that shows something so glaring like that? I'm obviously in the minority since we got the "oh mies itZ ovuhh!!!" posts but something like this hasn't been really seen since Lebron at Detroit. Man, that game was ugly.
Totally serious question; have you ever captured before?

I hadn't before this past week (helping capture these videos), and when you're trying to show something specific, it's hard to just play the game and hope it happens. Especially when you're up against time. We had to do whatever it took to showcase the specific things the video calls for.

We had it at All-Star and you see when the players finish at the basket in the video? We had a hell of a time trying that on the higher difficulties b/c guys would step in and collide with the driving player.

I'm sure guys on OS who capture specific videos can atest to how difficult it is. Ask Da Czar.

Guys,

That's probably not going to happen. These are specific videos. We're showcasing improvements in specific areas that we weren't good in last year. They are meant to be judged on those specific things. If you guys are looking for other things, you're not going to see it.

Sorry, but full gameplay videos will be coming at a later date.

I've seen the process of capturing before, yes. Actually been involved with it...

The videos you mentioned are EXACTLY what I would want to see though. Again, I know I'm in the minority. Wasn't always this way at OS, but times they are a changin'!

totally get you, and we will. But there's a planned schedule of releases and that's what we're putting out my man.

Pared: the question is, who are they advertising too? guys who are looking for sim realism? or guys who ******ly play basketball games because they enjoy seeing sick moves?

Have ****** players of NBA games become knowledgable enough to understand if this game is realistic in comparison to an NBA game? Who knows.

I'm on the side that's looking for the best AI possible, are guys making cuts? are players playing defense properly? are bigs on offense positioned in the right place when a star attacks the basket? This is why watching the game on a higher difficulty would likely sell the game to me, not this video.

That's not fair. You can't just market to the hardcore. I understand that.

My problem is that even WITH a lower difficulty, I wouldn't expect the defenders to stick to their man the way they did. There's just too much standing around. The defenders go into this animation as if they are playing off the ball defense but to me, the awareness just isn't there.

I think you guys are going way overboard...in the end of the day it's a basketball VIDEOGAME for god's sake. We are only focusing on the negatives.

Of course no game will be perfect and Live 10 won't be the exception. Just chill. It's gotta be frustating for the dev team to show us definetely nice videos only for us to nitpick every single frame of the video.

I know we are hardcore, but I believe this is getting out of hand...

Peace.

It's meant to be easy, it's newb mode.

the dribbling looks great...unfortunately the defense in the paint looks AWFUL. It looks way too easy to get to the rim untouched. The ball handler just gets by the defenders in the paint too easily. the defenders either don't contest the ball handler, or their contest attempts are wrong/ineffective. When a guy gets past his man at the top of the key, I want to see the paint defenders swarm him and not just let him slide inside for a layup or dunk.

edit: sorry - after reading the whole thread I see the difficulty setting is responsible for the lack of paint defense. I really hope the harder difficulty has more collisions in the paint and less open layups/dunks.

Honestly this is why I like Live's difficulty system the AI gets progressively smarter and more aware as you raise the difficulty level.

I feel like its a fighting game where on easy the CPU goes pretty easy on you using basic combos and such.

But once you up the difficulty they start to use more advanced combos and tactics

I like this rather than having the AI displaying solid fundamentals through out all levels because then it just lead to the CPU having to "cheat" in order to make the game more difficult. Because the AI already does everything they would at rookie on superstar.

So instead of the CPU using smart tactics they just start to use catch up speed or things like that to make up for it.

Thats cause it was set on an easier mode to showcase the dribbling

Discussing a concern with the defense is getting out of hand? Stay of out of the 2k forums then. Actually, you've already done that, so good job.

Good post Jano.

Some of the rest of you need to cut the trolling.

The one thing i didn't like in this video was the celtics jersey, and that shows how much i loved the video.

But about the jerseys, the celtics jerseys are way darker than this. Can you guys fix it?
