Madden 2010 News Post

Check out our Madden NFL 10 franchise mode preview. If you have any questions, I'll try to get another article up, later in the week, if need be.

Quote:
"Welcome to Madden NFL 10 franchise mode. This is year 1 of my Dallas Cowboys franchise, I'll try to cover what I can, then answer questions tomorrow or during the week.

Let's start with the franchise setup. From here, just pick your team. For those wondering, you can select all 32, if you want to.

Next it's the Franchise setup options. I'll just list them here:

Sim Injuries: (On/Off)
Injuries: (On/Off)
Salary Cap: (On/Off)
Quarter Length: (1-15 minutes)
Fantasy Draft: (On/Off)
Trade Deadline: (On/Off)
Use Preexisting Injuries: (On/Off)
Update Depth Chart: (CPU/User)
Re-Sign Players: (CPU/User)
Free Agent Wire: (CPU/User)
Sign Draft Picks: (CPU/User)
Fill Roster: (CPU/User)
Accelerated Clock: (Off, 15, 20, 25 seconds)

Next is preseason, for those that asked, you can't change your preseason schedule. In the main franchise hub, you can check the leagues top stories, manage your team. Look at your preseason schedule, manage your players (release, re-sign, trade, place a player on the trade block, make a team captain and edit a player). When going into player editor, while you can change player info and equipment, you can't change any ratings. You can tinker the depth chart, get a roster breakdown, look at the free agents (of note, you will see P. Burress, C. McAlister, E. James, M. Harrison, G. Ellis, R. Harrison, A. Toomer, D. Brooks, of course many more) and also look at the injury report."

"Max Users (2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32)"

So that are the only choices for number of users for online franchise????

So we can't play with three or five people?

Why is everyone complaining about not being able to edit players ratings in franchise mode? If you could do that nobody would care what rating their rookie was, they would just make it go higher to where they wanted it to be, progression would be pointless because you could make all your players better.

You shouldn't be able to edit ratings once your in a franchise, do it before it starts, that's good enough.

Though I'm still very interested in seeing how some of the rookies and/or players progress after a year, and the stats they had which made them go up however many points.

The only miscommunication I can see is if when he says 'Within' Franchise Mode, he just means 'In' Franchise Mode. But when he says 'Within' Franchise Mode, it can lead people to believe that he is talking about after you already started your franchise.
This is pure bull crap that EA won't put this in there. Why not allow us to edit our franchise as we see fit? This is especially disappointing because it would be nice to be able to edit the draft picks since I really do not trust the game to import the draft classes appropriately. Every year I get excited about this game and every year I get let down.

Typically, I've had to edit players across the league within Roster and then load that Roster to use in my new Franchise? I'm hoping I'll be able to edit any player on any team at any time during Franchise??
Steve confirmed there is no editing once franchise starts (other that equipment) and you CANNOT edit any other team other than your own (re: equipment). Funny i remember reading about Ian loving customization a few months back...???

Well for your first point that's already been fixed, and confirmed, lots of people had that problem last year. They already have a thread up with an imported draft class from NCAA.

And for your 2nd point, you don't have to buy Madden, no one is making you buy it, so just don't get it ok? Your even worse because your the type of person who bitches and moans about a game every year then runs to go get it the first Tuesday it comes out.

If it sucks don't buy it dude.

This may be a stupid question but, can you turn the "fight for the fumble" mini game off for online franchise?

Thanks

So after reading this very nice write up and seeing the countless videos and commentary on M10, I guess it is safe to say that Ian did not reach his goal of destroying the notion that the other game, *cough, sneeze*2...K....5....* is still leaps and bounds ahead of Madden almost 5years later.....

I will buy this game (this Friday hopefully) and give it a run to see if I have yet again spent $60 that could have gone to another game....

If you are going to beat the best, you have to at least match what they have done, better it and surpass it!

Congratulations on the best Madden football game ever created

I could have swarn Ian said you could edit a players rating in franchise mode. Steve I think you better check again, and again, and again, and again, till you break your X button (A 360). Well if you can't then I guess Ian is a big fat Liar who is going to grow sores on his tongue. How could you Ian?

Well no worries, I usually go in and change em up before franchise anyways. By making Aaron Rodgers, and Greg Jennings a 99 OVR, where they should have been, as well as my yearly ritual of distoying the Patriots, and Cowboys (AKA Brokebacks), by making sure that there is not one player on either team that is rated higher then a 60 OVR. I did that with the Lions last year . Seriously, how was I to know i wouldn't actually have to tamper with their roster for them to go 0-16?
I'm happy you posted this because it demonstrates exactly what people that don't want you to be able to edit ratings in franchise whine about. They don't want you to be able to raise Jennings and Rodgers or whoever as you see fit during your franchise. But you know what I want to know. Why do they care? Why does it matter if you want to screw with the ratings of players? You could do it in the roster file before you start the franchise. So why not let you do it during your franchise? This is BS.

I really freakin hate EA. I don't want to do what the guy I quoted above did. All I want is to be able to edit rookie ratings and appearances. Is that too much to ask? Customization is what people want. When a company can make something customizable it increases said products value because they can give more people what they want. All EA has done is take away customization options. Did I mention I really freakin hate EA and their exclusive rights to the NFL?

Not being able to edit appearance in-franchise sucks. You can do ALL of this in NCAA.....why not Madden?

Thanks.
If they are in, I hope they aren't overdone. If they are, I'd rather they'd be no CPU trades than having the Vikings trade Adrian Peterson for Tom Brady.

those tackle stats are outrageous

Bill Abner just posted a write-up comparing stats from after his first season to real life NFL stats. Looks pretty realistic to me:

Exactly!!!! We are paying money to buy a GAME. Let us play the GAME how we wish. I like to edit players that I don''t find realistic... and who does this harm? Why would anyone care if I edit my players during franchise? Pretty much every 2k sports game allows the user to do this. For the people worried about online... make it that you can't edit online... I could care less as all I play is offline franchise. Bring back game customization
