Madden 2010 News Post

Check out our Madden NFL 10 franchise mode preview. If you have any questions, I'll try to get another article up, later in the week, if need be.

"Welcome to Madden NFL 10 franchise mode. This is year 1 of my Dallas Cowboys franchise, I'll try to cover what I can, then answer questions tomorrow or during the week.

Let's start with the franchise setup. From here, just pick your team. For those wondering, you can select all 32, if you want to.

Next it's the Franchise setup options. I'll just list them here:

Sim Injuries: (On/Off)
Injuries: (On/Off)
Salary Cap: (On/Off)
Quarter Length: (1-15 minutes)
Fantasy Draft: (On/Off)
Trade Deadline: (On/Off)
Use Preexisting Injuries: (On/Off)
Update Depth Chart: (CPU/User)
Re-Sign Players: (CPU/User)
Free Agent Wire: (CPU/User)
Sign Draft Picks: (CPU/User)
Fill Roster: (CPU/User)
Accelerated Clock: (Off, 15, 20, 25 seconds)

Next is preseason, for those that asked, you can't change your preseason schedule. In the main franchise hub, you can check the leagues top stories, manage your team. Look at your preseason schedule, manage your players (release, re-sign, trade, place a player on the trade block, make a team captain and edit a player). When going into player editor, while you can change player info and equipment, you can't change any ratings. You can tinker the depth chart, get a roster breakdown, look at the free agents (of note, you will see P. Burress, C. McAlister, E. James, M. Harrison, G. Ellis, R. Harrison, A. Toomer, D. Brooks, of course many more) and also look at the injury report."

The best scenario for all is a setting to stretch out the CPU teams choices. I agree that it would be more immersive for some peeps, but we should have an option to control the time it takes.
How is one supposed to check his draft board and try to make a trade in 10-15 seconds? That's the problem with not having the option to slow down the draft.

Those season stats seemed very realistic, that's a good sign.

Sacks given up are high, rush TDs are low, Colston's catch number is high...which leads me to suspect that the same problem exists within the sim stat engine...

The CPU controlled teams pass a bit too much, run too little and the backup RBs don't get enough carries...

Questions:

Do the team totals for rush and pass attempts look realistic?

Do the backup RBs get carries as a result of substitution (fatigue) and not injury?

Can you affect the above with the Coach Philosophy Run / Pass sliders or the RB1 / RB2 sliders?

Overall, looks like a slightly less broken sim engine...

I guess the sacks given up were a little high but you guys have been begging for less time in the pocket anyways

and I thought that for an online franchise you could use any amount of ppl and there would be 32 teams no matter what and the others would be cpu controlled? how come there is options for max users 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.

I remember it being said that you could be in an online franchise all by yourself

So basically if I understand this correctly, other than logic ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO FRANCHISE MODE?!?!? That's really dissapointing. After all the Head Coach hype franchise mode basics are identical to last year. Sad

Oh please, just stop. Tons of things have been added to Franchise mode, quit crying.

Like what Scott? If you played 09 everything post season is identical.

For one progression has been tweaked, draft classes have been tweaked, ratings, added The Extra Point, Super Bowl presentation.

# 70 JAYMO76 @ 08/02/09 03:14 PM
Scott, you have just proven my point. I stated that other than LOGIC nothing has been changed in the POST SEASON. Draft classes and ratings are logic. I admit the EXTRA POINT is a nice touch but that is not post season. I go back to my point, nothing post season franchise has changed.

I've been pretty excited by what I've seen from Madden this year, both on and off the field, but those sim stats really concern me. I'll definitley be watching to see how that shakes out come release time.

# 72 Buckeyes_Doc @ 08/02/09 06:53 PM
Sounds great..wish extra point was more franchise-orientated. You know talking about teams in the hunt for the playoffs, listing possible playoff scenarios, talking about injuries. Would also be cool if they had an extra point for the draft like a pre and post show.

# 73 countryboy @ 08/02/09 07:39 PM
I'd much rather them work on the draft logic, the progression, and the cpu roster management logic before adding in anything else.

EA FINALLY got the Super Bowl endzones correct. Awesome.

# 75 Ungee34 @ 08/02/09 08:34 PM
Would really love to know what kind of draft logic the CPU has this year. For example, last year I had the Colts select a QB with the 26th pick in the first round on a QB that was projected for the 6th rnd. They must have known something we didn't. Is the draft logic corrected??? No more drafts where the first 11 picks out of 12 teams are DE's????? I HOPE SO!!!!

# 76 TurboTitan @ 08/02/09 08:39 PM
Please tell me we can at least edit "appearance" this year. If Eric Berry comes into my franchise with dreads, I want to be able to fix that....however, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is again left out.

# 77 Buckeyes_Doc @ 08/02/09 08:46 PM
I also seen somethen really cool where Steve said in free agency when you offer someone a contract on day 1 and say they accept on day 8 that before sigining then you can change your mind? I dont think this has been in previous maddens.

# 78 Jono078 @ 08/02/09 08:47 PM
I'm not buying this 'progression is fixed/better' until I see proof.

I won't forget the article IGN had on progression alone last year for Madden 09... We all know how that progression system turned out.

And to be at this time of the year and see no results of progression has me worried, are they hiding it on purpose knowing people just will not like it ?

If I'm not mistaken haven't we been able to pause the draft picks or change the pick speed to slow, medium, and fast. I'm like 99% sure that was in '09

I've really enjoyed your Madden write ups, they are very helpful.

I generally play 8 minute quarters and like to have about 65 offense plays per game. I noticed there is an accelerated clock option and was curious if you can post any information on how many minute quarters you play (or simulate with) and about how many offensive plays you average with those settings? Also, what accelerated clock option you are using with them.

Thank you.
