Madden 2010 News Post

Check out our Madden NFL 10 franchise mode preview. If you have any questions, I'll try to get another article up, later in the week, if need be.

Quote:
"Welcome to Madden NFL 10 franchise mode. This is year 1 of my Dallas Cowboys franchise, I'll try to cover what I can, then answer questions tomorrow or during the week.

Let's start with the franchise setup. From here, just pick your team. For those wondering, you can select all 32, if you want to.

Next it's the Franchise setup options. I'll just list them here:

Sim Injuries: (On/Off)
Injuries: (On/Off)
Salary Cap: (On/Off)
Quarter Length: (1-15 minutes)
Fantasy Draft: (On/Off)
Trade Deadline: (On/Off)
Use Preexisting Injuries: (On/Off)
Update Depth Chart: (CPU/User)
Re-Sign Players: (CPU/User)
Free Agent Wire: (CPU/User)
Sign Draft Picks: (CPU/User)
Fill Roster: (CPU/User)
Accelerated Clock: (Off, 15, 20, 25 seconds)

Next is preseason, for those that asked, you can't change your preseason schedule. In the main franchise hub, you can check the leagues top stories, manage your team. Look at your preseason schedule, manage your players (release, re-sign, trade, place a player on the trade block, make a team captain and edit a player). When going into player editor, while you can change player info and equipment, you can't change any ratings. You can tinker the depth chart, get a roster breakdown, look at the free agents (of note, you will see P. Burress, C. McAlister, E. James, M. Harrison, G. Ellis, R. Harrison, A. Toomer, D. Brooks, of course many more) and also look at the injury report."

Good read Steve so did you look on the players award history to see if it shows that person winning a superbowl? Oh I did read where they didnt add letting the first rounders come up and put the hat on and hold the jerseys up, Maybe next year for a real live draft feel. Right Steve?

only things that kinda bugged me were the limited amount of rushing touchdowns and peyton manning throwing 48 tds...an incredible performance like that will not happen more than 2 times in a decade...especially cause they dont have marvin anymore..if he threw somewhere around 38 like brady did, then that would be great. also, marques colston did way too good. if u checked that one video with the extra point and franchise whatever, it shows colston as player of the week..he had 14 receptions 130 yards and 4 TDS....thats kinda something annoying about all madden games. and u would think colston would not do that great considering he just got off of a knee injury that kept him out for the season...but anyway...this game is gonna be great...as long as they fixed franchise, im happy

Just to clarify, Colston didn't have a knee injury, it was a thumb injury, and he wasn't out for the season, he played in 11 games and had 760 yards and 5 TDs. http://www.mahalo.com/marques-colston-injury

I do agree though that 14 catches and 4 TDs is a little much, not because Colston is incapable, because he most certainly is... but because the Saints spread the ball around so much, it's highly unlikely any one receiver will catch that many balls in a single game.

If you get chance I would love to hear if draft picks can be traded in an online franchise. All of this stuff is great to see a little early. Great job on the info

I don't know whether there were trades or something but Bart Scott was on the Ravens and John Abraham was on the Jets?

There are some pretty high sack numbers. FYI, Matt Cassell was sacked the most last year with 47

QB Sacks
B. Quinn (CLE) - 62
J. Cutler (CHI) - 57
D. Garrard (JAX) - 53
J. Kitna (DAL) - 52
M. Sanchez (NYJ) - 51

you raise a very good point. I'm honestly surprised it took this long for someone to notice. It would be one thing if it was one team but this makes it look like atleast 1/3 of the NFL will give up more than the most given up last year. I would be curious to see how teams stacked up in other years before last.

The odd thing is that sack numbers were down for the league leaders on defense compared to last year's stats. I would think there would be at least one guy with monster sack numbers

Sack
T. Cole (PHI) - 16
D. Ware (DAL) - 15
D. Freeney (IND) - 13
J. Abraham (NYJ) - 12
Osi (NYG) - 12

Did anyone hear if you can build your team a new stadium without relocating them

Yes, they are. unfortunately, there's a problem with the sim engine in that it tends to short change runningbacks near the goalline. Josh spent extensive time trying to get this fixed, but it's an inherent limitation in the stat gen that he hopes to rebuild next year based on SuperSim.

I'm going to play around with the SuperSim when I get the game and see if I can squeeze more realistic rushing TD numbers out of it.
Well thats good to hear that the rush TD stats are only off on "paper" not on the field...i dont indulge too much on stats as much as actual gameplay..i mean i do care about viewing the stats,league/my team stats, end of year awards, etc but as with most videogames..i use my imagination when i need too lol..by the way, i never sim entire seasons neither...

Also.. MMChriss..nice write up bro, appreciate it. I got a giggle out of the "No, the #1 pick dont get up on stage with cap and jersey" comment lol..this is something i asked for this last off season lol hahahaha..although i still feel it would be rock'n to have this in madden in the future.

Franchise dont look to different then previous years as others have stated BUT it does look like its been fine tuned alot...thx for the article

It's a shame about the rushing td's. Everything else looks alright.

Can we get some examples of progression?

please don't say computer teams only take 10 to 15 seconds for each draft pick in the game. Thsi is a killer to me. I want a realistic draft with teams taking their time, at least a minute or so. What's the problem witgh extending the picking time? The user can advance each pick.

Come on EA, please say it ain't so! 10 or 15 seconds for each pick? That makes about 6 minutes for the WHOLE first round!! Where's the fun and realism in that??

# 53 MattieShoes @ 08/02/09 08:28 AM
I think that's a case where fun and realism collide. :-) Other than my own picks, I'm mostly interested in seeing who drafted what at the END of the draft. Simulated delays for an algorithm that decides on a pick in a fraction of a second isn't fun to me.

I've noticed that you can turn the salary cap off in Franchise. That hasn't been an option for a while, right?

The top two there made the playoffs. Quinn being 5th in picks makes this incredible. The Browns are also a 3rd place wild card. Which would be the first time ever a that 2nd wild card came out of a division with a 14-2 team. Check that on wikipedia if you think I missed one.

There are people out there still insisting you can build your own draft classes from scratch too, because they heard "hand made" or "custom" draft classes (meaning developer designed rather than randomly generated), and I've actually had arguments about it in which the person INSISTS Josh Looman said to them PERSONALLY at E3 or something that they can build their own draft class.
Chase, an editor from this very site, wrote in his E3 blog that you CAN edit player ratings Within franchise mode. Go to the E3 forum and look it up. He wrote it in his review of Madden 10 when he was there. I mean, he's an editor on this site so shouldn't I believe what he tells me?

The only miscommunication I can see is if when he says 'Within' Franchise Mode, he just means 'In' Franchise Mode. But when he says 'Within' Franchise Mode, it can lead people to believe that he is talking about after you already started your franchise.

The REALISM is in the fact that most people (me included) don't have the time or patience for each round to take 30+ freakin minutes!!!! OUCH

The best scenario for all is a setting to stretch out the CPU teams choices. I agree that it would be more immersive for some peeps, but we should have an option to control the time it takes.

Great info, thx for the preview.

For the last posts, I am very fine with 10-15 secs. for AI picks.

# 59 swiftychampleone @ 08/02/09 11:47 AM
So with salary cap off, a person can create players and not worry about losing them to free agency because of running out of money? Sweet! I'm not saying that I'll have a murderous whip or anything (that would be no fun), but it cuts down limitations. In old Madden games, if you ran out of money and you turned salry cap off, you had to quit Franchise Mode.

I remember reading that too, that's why I was disappointed when I read here that you can't edit ratings in franchise mode.
