Madden 2010 News Post

Check out our Madden NFL 10 franchise mode preview. If you have any questions, I'll try to get another article up, later in the week, if need be.

"Welcome to Madden NFL 10 franchise mode. This is year 1 of my Dallas Cowboys franchise, I'll try to cover what I can, then answer questions tomorrow or during the week.

Let's start with the franchise setup. From here, just pick your team. For those wondering, you can select all 32, if you want to.

Next it's the Franchise setup options. I'll just list them here:

Sim Injuries: (On/Off)
Injuries: (On/Off)
Salary Cap: (On/Off)
Quarter Length: (1-15 minutes)
Fantasy Draft: (On/Off)
Trade Deadline: (On/Off)
Use Preexisting Injuries: (On/Off)
Update Depth Chart: (CPU/User)
Re-Sign Players: (CPU/User)
Free Agent Wire: (CPU/User)
Sign Draft Picks: (CPU/User)
Fill Roster: (CPU/User)
Accelerated Clock: (Off, 15, 20, 25 seconds)

Next is preseason, for those that asked, you can't change your preseason schedule. In the main franchise hub, you can check the leagues top stories, manage your team. Look at your preseason schedule, manage your players (release, re-sign, trade, place a player on the trade block, make a team captain and edit a player). When going into player editor, while you can change player info and equipment, you can't change any ratings. You can tinker the depth chart, get a roster breakdown, look at the free agents (of note, you will see P. Burress, C. McAlister, E. James, M. Harrison, G. Ellis, R. Harrison, A. Toomer, D. Brooks, of course many more) and also look at the injury report."

Do these Madden stats also take into account playoff games?

I could care less as all I play is offline franchise. Bring back game customization
I really don't understand their decision. It truly makes no logical sense. If someone wants to cheat and bump up their player ratings so they can get all the dynasty achievements, they can still do it before they start their franchise. Allowing us to edit ratings simply gives us more customization abilities with the game. As another poster said, I thought Ian raved about how he wanted to put control into the hands of the user and allow us to customize things the way we want. Bull crap!

At least in other years we could just say EA forgot and didn't think about letting us customize players. This year, users continuously asked for and there was even a major poll on the issue in which more people wanted to be able to edit players in franchise than didn't want to. Not to mention it does not affect those that don't want to edit player ratings; this idiotic decision only affects those that DO want to edit player ratings. It makes no logical sense.

Madden:

Tackles
B. Ruud (TB) - 179
D. Jackson (CLE) - 167
C. Lofton (ATL) - 156
D. Smith (JAX) - 154
L. Foote (DET) - 152
That is one year...Look at all the previous years. No, I am not saying they aren't a little bit on the high side, all I am saying is they aren't that bad... In 07, Willis has 174.

And look at 05:

1. Vilma 169
2. Thomas 158
3. Fletcher 157
4. Edwards 152
5. Davis 149

Or 03:

1. Sharper 164
2. Edwards 161
3. Lewis 161
4. Thomas 152
5. Barrow 148

Are these really all that off? No, in fact they are pretty on point.

I have two questions. Can you switch teams at the end of the season in franchise mode? Can you copy the franchise mode to a flash drive?

The range of tackle numbers doesn't bother me in the slightest. IIRC, tackles aren't an "official" NFL stat like yards, so depending on the source, you may see quite different numbers. NFL.com is the consensus best source, but if you look around you may find competing numbers.

What bothers me is how EA seem to want to redefine how tackle stats are kept. Tackles, and assisted, with the assisted tackles being less? Why not just do it the proper way - total tackles, solo tackles. Not a huge deal, just another little head scratcher from the guys at EA. I mean, anyone who cares about these things will know tackle stats are kept as total/solo.

Steve can you tell me if the league schedules/divisions can be edited by the commish in online franchise?

Thanks

Can we get some examples of progression? Is progression really fixed? Can you find diamonds in the rough in the draft? I can't believe the article didn't address this.

Is this confirmed correct? i was under the impression that it was like head coach 09 in that its not randomized classes by position but the whole draft class stays together. i could be wrong?

I remember when three months ago Ian seemd to imply that we would be able to edit rookies in Madden 10. I guess they just didn't have the time to squeeze it in. Okay biggest cliche ever... "Maybe they will have it in Madden 11."

True. But you never could see what their OVR was going to be so sometimes you'd make a few tweaks and all of the sudden have a 98 OVR rook.

Another thing, you could never edit your players equipment at ANY point in Franchise mode...and some rookies would come in with mismatched wrist bands, shoes, and gloves. A friggin mess. Glad Madden has had that option for years now.
