Madden 2010 News Post

EA Sports is taking a little bit of a different approach to their beta "code" these days. Well, maybe not different, but more strict I guess you could say. Instead of sharing oodles of videos and screenshots, which you all have become accustomed to over the years here at OS, we are under a huge embargo and cannot release anything -- that is until today. But we still can't release much in terms of screenshots and videos, so most of the information will be in written form.

I will try to cover as much as possible leading up to Madden's release date -- or at least until the hardcore guys get their sweaty little hands on an early copy from the mom and pop stores, which seem to just pop up everywhere at this time of year.

Let me also preface this hands-on preview by writing this: This is beta Xbox 360 code, so a few things may be slightly different when you pop your game into your console of choice.

I'll probably be coming from everywhere in this preview, as I have much to say about it. So as things pop into my head, I'll just write about it. With that said, let me bring you your Madden NFL 10 fix.

-Preview written by Steve Noah

Final Thoughts

The bottom line is that this game has improved drastically in one year, and I haven't been this excited about Madden in a very long time -- I'm sure many of you feel the same way.

The next article will cover franchise mode, so check it out a little later this week, along with maybe a few other things.

For the record, I have not recorded a sack while using a defensive lineman
Really? Not even once? By accident?? Wow, that kinda glaring. I was hoping line play would be something they improved upon this year.

If I'm using DeMarcus Ware, I expect to get a little pressure with him, but I have yet to do so. I can understand this when controlling a regular player, but superstars should be more effective.
So once again Defensive linemen ratings don't matter. I guess that will make my draft choices easier and save some money when I can plug in a 67 ovr DE and get the same results.

For the record, I've gotten like 5 sacks personally in my last 2 games on the demo. And as far as defensive line ratings not mattering, when the AI has sacked me, its only been one of the guys like Ware, Tuck, Osi, or James Harrison.

i assume difficulty levels to some extent and custom sliders would fix this (if they work unlike NCAA's).

Where have I heard that before.

Oh yeah. Last year.
Madden 09 review.

"Fast forward three years. Madden NFL 2009 is the best version of Madden that I’ve played in a long time.

In the present, Madden is still leaps and bounds better than recent efforts, and is my favorite football title in years."

I can't help but know that this review is totally biased.

The best Madden I have played in years was Madden 08 on XBOX.

This year's version reminds me of the PS one Madden circa. With pbetter graphics. .

Christmas in August? Well I do believe so folks. I preordered mine last month. I'm curious to know just for fun if you could get this w/o preordering it? I dunno, it just seems as if Madden 10' will be the game to have! I am so friggin excited!

I am a huge NFL 2K fan so you can imaaaaaaagine how I felt when EA nabbed up the NFL exclusivity license. After that move, I've had nothing but disdain for EA Sports and Madden. Having said that, I actually gave the demo for Madden 10 a spin, and I must admit....this is perhaps the closest that Madden has actually come to offering a TRUE simulation-type experience in a looooong time. It seems that Tiburon has abandoned the fast paced arcade syle in favor of a more realistic slow styled pacing. Don't get me wrong - it's not the phenomenal leap in quality (from traditional Madden styled gameplay) that NFL 2K5 was, but it seems that the developers have opted to mimick the NFL 2K feel instead, even down to the sideline cutscenes, while making apparent improvements in the animation and overall gameplay. However, I'm still not completely sold on the demo alone, as EA has a horrible habit of offering very limited demos of their games, making it hard to get a good overall assessment of the gameplay (It also didn't help being limited to playing on a snow covered field). Legitimately good reviews and a potential rental might change that, though. But if nothing else, I can honestly say that EA has FINALLY started taking steps toward making a quality sim for the current gen systems - a move that's now 5 years overdue.

Everyone gets excited for madden. But often times people are utterly disappointed once the game has been played for an extended period of time.
