Madden 2010 News Post

EA Sports is taking a little bit of a different approach to their beta "code" these days. Well, maybe not different, but more strict I guess you could say. Instead of sharing oodles of videos and screenshots, which you all have become accustomed to over the years here at OS, we are under a huge embargo and cannot release anything -- that is until today. But we still can't release much in terms of screenshots and videos, so most of the information will be in written form.

I will try to cover as much as possible leading up to Madden's release date -- or at least until the hardcore guys get their sweaty little hands on an early copy from the mom and pop stores, which seem to just pop up everywhere at this time of year.

Let me also preface this hands-on preview by writing this: This is beta Xbox 360 code, so a few things may be slightly different when you pop your game into your console of choice.

I'll probably be coming from everywhere in this preview, as I have much to say about it. So as things pop into my head, I'll just write about it. With that said, let me bring you your Madden NFL 10 fix.

Agreed. I would prefer not to do the button mashing, like I said when Ian first posted on his EA blog that there would be this mini game. I like the drama of waiting to see who will come out with the football just like when I watch a real football game.

Freaking cost me $60 for that pile of rubbish. He listed CPU QB being deadly accurate as a negative. It would have been nice to know before purchasing that EA, in a mind-bogglingly brilliant move, removed CPU sliders.

Overall, OS was gushing all over the place about Madden 09 and I credit a lot of members here for taking them to task after playing that P.O.S.

That said, luckily, Mr. Crouch did not write the preview here, and hopefully he will not be assigned to the review. For all we know, he might have been hired to head up EA's PR department.

It is my sense that this preview has far more credibility than last year's review and the all-out OS love-in with EA.
Bossman, I actually didn't read that review as I only joined here a few months ago but I will say this like I always say when people get all silly about another person's review - It's a personal opinion. Just like u have yours, reviewers have their own. U bought the game at your own risk, regardless of what a reviewer may have said. U had the option of the demo and/or renting the game, first. Don't bash the reviewer cuz u didn't use your options to check the game out for yourself, first. Bash yourself.

Hey bro, I think we can all appreciate an intricate preview of what I believe will be the start of an outstanding Madden Franchise. I've never been this excited for a Madden to hit the shelves. Great read man, I disregard anything the negative peeps have to say. There is enough solid evidence to say that this game is gonna entertain all of the consumers making this purchase. Are you ready for some football!!!!

Why should a passing accuracy slider set at 0 mean an inaccurate pass on every play? We want a sim game don't we? Why the heck do we want Tom Brady throwing inaccurate passes on every single attempt?

I prefer dynasty mode over franchise mode because recruiting is a blast.

But Madden 10 looks like it had 100 employees with lots of $ working on it.

NCAA 10 feels like it was created by 4 broke guys in their mom's basement.

Now that's funny!!! Very true and very funny!!!

I feel like I read the same things about NCAA which I refuse to play anymore other than simulating a season to export the draft classes. It's my firm belief that Madden will be as good as everyone wants/pretends it is 2012, and I really really hope I'm wrong about that.

I am excited about each team playing differently. That will add tons of replay value. Plus, in franchise mode, teams will evolve over time. That will truly make the game dynamic and a blast to play. This year, I will truly delve into franchise mode like never before.

I also think this will be one of the best video games made. Not perfect; but one of the best.

Nice write up.

I'm just praying that there are no franchise killing bugs. If there isn't I can see myself going deep into franchise.

I'm waiting to hear about the Offline Franchise Mode. That's the "deal-breaker" for me. I don't really care about Online Franchise. I plan on buying this game used anyway.

First of all, not every gamer wants "SIM".

If a 0 on the slider means 0 complete passes and a 100 on the slider scale means 100% complete passes than it becomes very easy to edit the slider to however you want it, and you can have a bigger range of completion percentages depending on how you want to play the game.

On the other hand, if 0 on the accuracy slider computes to roughly 50% (+/-) completion and 100 on the slider equals 60% completions, it's not only difficult to get the slider where you want it, it seriously cuts down on the possible range you can have.

The bigger range in the sliders, the better IMO and to reiterate, everyone plays the game differently and not everyone wants to play a SIM game.

Anyway, good write up - looking forward to hearing more about the offline franchise though.

A fair preview, Steve, thank you. You hit positives and negatives, covered a lot of stuff, and managed to sound optimistic without the ZOMG! factor (just for you Chase).

yep

I have been burned year after year this gen, selling the game after a week or two because it felt like Coleco-vision football... 110MPH speed and body slams and ridiculous reactions.

Is it perfect? no but the Pro-Tak and the new animation and game speed and cut scenes make me feel like it's an NFL game like no game before it. Now with Steve pointing out the feel of different teams and I am excited

WHEN CAN WE EXPECT THE NEXT POST?

Can you tell us about the offseason...fast forward through a season...I'm really curious about the draft and the offseason options.

Thanks...great review.
