Madden 2010 News Post

EA Sports is taking a little bit of a different approach to their beta "code" these days. Well, maybe not different, but more strict I guess you could say. Instead of sharing oodles of videos and screenshots, which you all have become accustomed to over the years here at OS, we are under a huge embargo and cannot release anything -- that is until today. But we still can't release much in terms of screenshots and videos, so most of the information will be in written form.

I will try to cover as much as possible leading up to Madden's release date -- or at least until the hardcore guys get their sweaty little hands on an early copy from the mom and pop stores, which seem to just pop up everywhere at this time of year.

Let me also preface this hands-on preview by writing this: This is beta Xbox 360 code, so a few things may be slightly different when you pop your game into your console of choice.

I'll probably be coming from everywhere in this preview, as I have much to say about it. So as things pop into my head, I'll just write about it. With that said, let me bring you your Madden NFL 10 fix.

Meaning, on 1/3 of all offensive plays, the Offensive line will simply ignore a defender, or "stick" to a wrong defender, and end up going parallel to the LOS, sometimes literally standing right in front of my QB.
I think I might have to give notice to all of my leagues that I have been in for over 3 years, because this just doesn't cut it for me anymore.
So you are comparing your experience with a demo to Steve's experience with a later build of the full game? A later build that includes sliders? Really?

Now when you say you are getting anywhere from 115-140 plays per game with 25 second runoff option for accelerated clock. Are you playing on 15 min Quarters? if not how many minute Quarters?

It's how much time goes off the clock and the play clock if you turn on accelerated clock feature. After someone calls a play however much time they set it to run off for will run off each clock. It makes it easier to have more minutes in a quarter and still get realistic stats.

Yeah no kidding... but then again have we seen much common since in the Madden forums at all lately......

Anyways thanks for the write up Steve! I was already pumped for the new Madden VIDEO GAME. Glad some of my questions I had were answered especially the quick CPU snaping the ball "issue"

Thanks!

Thanks for the post, Steve-O. Actually, a lot of what was stated about the on field play is what I've experienced in the GS demo. Now, if the demos are actually of an earlier build than what Steve played, I get slightly concerned, yet not very because I know the sliders are there for the final build. I think that the game will be pretty good based on the demo as many things will not be present in the final. Plus, there is always the idea of a patch if they couldn't iron out some things before going gold. Gotta love modern gaming console technology. Lol.

If you turn fight for the fumble off, do you still get the pileups?

And my other question, is the "normal" game speed like last years or is it the slowed down one? I'm guessing its the slowed down one

# 34 Sherman91587 @ 07/27/09 06:56 PM
One thing that I loved about the demo myself was how the slow down in speed makes the return game actually possible. For me in some of the games in the last years it would seem like you would be totally smothered by ppl every time there was a punt.

Now with the slow down gunners wont close the gaps so fast and what is also nice is that you can combo moves a lot more than in years past. When i was Bradshaw with the Giants in the demo I got one punt and was able to juke out two guys and not have it take a year. I think the jukes look so much better, but one thing I can say Jacobs was able to do them pretty easy too and not saying he is bad but dude def does not have those kinda moves haha.

Nice preview! Getting me more and more excited

Good preview, thanks.

I disagree with your slider assessment. Setting it to 0 should not make him a 2 year old trying to throw a football. It should make him as bad as the worse QB is in the game in terms of that attribute, or the bottom accuracy rating for a QB. This is likely not 0 itself.

Good writeup Steve. Looking forward to the franchise article coming later this week

# 38 rudyjuly2 @ 07/27/09 07:57 PM
Thanks Steve! I liked pro-tak and the emphasis on broken tackles this year.

True.

It seems like 0 really isn't 0. I'm fine with that. I'm wondering how much tuning I'll have to do with the sliders this year. Last gen maddens took me about 4-6 months before I was happy with everything. I was always a little pissed about much tuning I had to do.. Love - Hate kinda thing.
