Check out the new NBA Live 10 blog, featuring new faces and DNA.

"Now I know what you're thinking, "Is this the first official gameplay blog?" Nope, not yet! You get to hear from me once more until we get into the meat of our game (presentation, visuals, gameplay and menus). What's the topic for today; new rookie DNA and overall ratings. You're probably wondering why each year we don't show screens of the rookies in their new uniforms and show off their overall rating like Madden does. Well, the fast answer to this question is because the NBA Players Association is very different from the NFL Players Association. In the NFL, when a player reports to the combine, they're officially part of the NFL Players Association. However, in the NBA a rookie isn't part of the NBA Players association until they sign their team contract. We aren't allowed to show anything (screens, ratings, etc.) until a player signs on the dotted line. With that said, we CAN sign a player for marketing purposes, and this year we did just that.

If you were watching the NBA Draft last week, you may have seen the "EA SPORTS" medallion once or twice. That's because we were the official sponsors of the NBA Draft. We signed Blake Griffin, Hasheem Thabeet and Stephen Curry. In today's blog I'm going to reveal what their collegiate DNA does for the Clippers, Grizzlies and Warriors respectively, and also show what their team's DNA looks like without them in the starting lineup. I'll also reveal their overall ratings for you ratings junkies."

Hey Steph or anyone else who can answer this .... when the DNA updates through out the season do i have to quit my Franchise to get the latest updates?..or will the DNA update during my Franchise as well? i hated starting over whenever there was a trade or something new developed

I don't get how this would work. You don't want to have trades happen during your franchise? Let's say someone like Dwight Howard gets traded to the kings (just an example) and you are controlling the magic, but you already traded him to another team. What would happen?

Jose dunked twice last year....both very soft dunks as well. The 3 prior seasons with the Raptors he never dunked once and that last clip is when Jose was much yonger. When Live 09 first came out Jose would dunk waaaaaaay to much. Then, Steph went in and fixed in a manual roster update.

I think the only way it could be done is to have a "DNA Franchise" option...

You would play your franchise mode as normal. But trades and all that stuff are turned off.

You're franchise simply follows the daily DNA updates.

I know it has it's short comings but I think it would add a bit of continuity that exhibition games just can't give you.

I for one would love the challenge of having to deal with the trades and form slumps that inevitably arise. Mainly because it reflects real life and is not just a made up scenario.

What if you were to use that "DNA Franchise" option, and simulated like 2 years forward? Shaq has retired in your game, but maybe not in real life and he got traded.

nice news...... i already had an idea had the dna work but its good that you guys cleared it up for the people who didnt quite understand how it works..

glad to see little bit of info each week... it keeps people tuned in and it keeps you safe from leaking out too much info to the competition

Yeah, that's the problem with the idea of a "DNA franchise".

It wouldn't really be a proper "franchise" mode would it.

I still think it would be a valid and fun way of incorporating DNA into the single player portion of the game. Certainly better than just isolated exhibition games.

Same hear. I want to see how every team will play differently because of the new DNA system. In live 09 every team played the same. It was like Dynamic DNA was never in the game. Looking forward to live 10.

Would I have to pay for another one... if I have a brother who I share my PS3 with, but we use different PSN accounts?

i'm almost sure that you can use it only on 1 PSN account

What I'm not understanding is where the actual overall rating number comes from and how it relates to all of the DNA information. Why do we need an overall rating?

Well if it works like an Add on type of thing, then i think it covers the whole console.. I need to know because this is a factor that may decide whether I buy NBA LIVE 10 or not. Thanks btw

So one doesn't have anything to do with the other?

Where does the overall rating come from then?

Learning is fun!

So where do the skill ratings come from? How is one guy an 8 in a particular skill but another guy a 75 in the same skill?

New Faces, New DNA, New ways to market a product that isnt worth $60 +tax and more $ for add-ons that should be free.

Don't feed into the hype of live just yet. It happens every year.

Right because if I have a created guy, I don't have all of that DNA data. I was actually going to ask about that.

For the real players, they're still just assigning a number from 0 -100 (or whatever the scale). DNA just provides a isht load of data to help figure out who should be what number.

I'm probably asking questions that don't mean anything to most people, lol ... Thanks for taking the time to explain this stuff. The DNA feature has me curious (as you can see) so I'm going to give Live a try to see this stuff in action
