"A rookie defensive back sealed the fate of the Ravens today, sending the Titans into the second round of the playoffs in Madden NFL 10.

The Tennessee Titans (9-7) took on the Baltimore Ravens (10-6) in the opening game of the AFC Wildcard game today in a crazy back and forth game filled with dazzling special teams and defensive play. QB Joe Flacco threw an interception as time wound down that rookie CB Ryan Mouton intercepted with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation to seal the Titans victory."

geez.....i remember that now

i feel like (based on viewing only of course) that this game is along the lines of 2k3/2k4......."almost but not quite there".

still better than any other NG madden though

The 2K/Madden war in this thread stops now. If you want to make a constructive comparison to a specific area of each game, so be it. "Game A blows Game B out of the water" or "Game A sucks, Game B rules" will not be tolerated.

Yeah! My boy flacco got some commentary

Anyway...

Ian, thanks for the videos. I have my own set of concerns, but they've been covered by more knowledgeable guys than myself, so there's no sense rehashing them point by point. The bright side is, the improvements are definitely noticeable.

Any chance for an All-Madden vid, or at least maybe one on normal game speed? I'd just like to see some better examples of a pocket collapsing.

Also, as a sidebar...

I agree with something Skyboxer (I think) said much earlier. It's not that we are necessarily overreacting (most of us anyway), it's just that often times when we mention an issue we have, you respond with something to the effect of " but I just had a ___ happen in some games I played..." or something to that effect. We just want to see this balance too, is all.

Some of these issues have cropped up in nearly every video, and we have CD guys voicing their concerns on it as well...and they've actually played the game. It's not "hitting the panic button" for most of us, as much as it is legit concern...especially when you comment that you aren't noticing these things.

Just my two cents...in no way am I implying that you and your team have done a poor job. As I said, improvement is evident. Also, I'm grateful for the effort you put in to keep us up to speed and the honesty in which you do so. Some of us just want to ensure we'll be seeing a better balanced game come release. That's it.

Peace.

EDIT: one more thing, to focus on a more positive aspect, I continue to be impressed with the presentational improvements made in just one cycle. It's a far cry from the very dry appearance 09 gave off, IMO.

I did note that Ray Lewis had R. Lewis and no other players had their initials, good job catching that

Also the crowd noise is spectacular, I would like to see someone else though in the fan cut scene before third down instead of the guy with the defense sign everytime.

Pro tak is still looking pretty darn good Im not entirely sure about Hope and Williams getting caught in a stalemate though when Williams is going for the ball and Hope is comming for him at full speed, Williams should of gotten popped.

Cut scenes are looking good and showing often nice touches here, not so sure about showing the offenses qb on the phone though right before he comes to the line for the 1st down snap.

Um, 4th video. 4:54 mark. 2nd and goal, Collins incomplete pass out of the back of the endzone....why does the game clock run after that play?

I like what I see. Good stuff.

Almost forgot to add, I LOVED that the CPU went deep several times even though it didn't work out too well.

Why is Chris Johnson rated so high 88 what did he do to be rated that high rush for a 1000 yards? And how come Ledale White is rated a 79? I thought he had a good year last year?

Thats nothing

What about Forte for the bears? What is his rating. Steve Slaton.

Everything looks great so far. Just those running Animations needs to be fixed.

Why after every tackle the players are on the floor sliding? Can somebody Answer that?

Am i the only on seeing that?

I don't have my official Madden Team Dictionary with me but I agree with what LBzrule is saying regarding containment, etc.

In my honest opinion you need to get rid of the entire running animation system, it just does not look realistic.
Players cut on a dime, slide their feet, swing their arms to wide, etc. etc.... I have no idea in the world how anyone can like the way these players move it looks horrible.

Like how can you look at this game and say it looks realistic? Madden has had 4 years on next gen & this is still what they bring to the table?

Ian Cummings you want a better realistic football, spend the WHOLE year working on animations for Madden 11. Sure you have great presentation & everything else but once the players start moving on the field it looks unrealistic.

Have you ever played Nba 2k9? For the most part it looks like a real Basketball game, 2k sports to me has always had some of the best animations. It's a true shame that their is only one football game out rite now every year.
I'm a die hard football fan & I must say this game just does not look real.....

I pray the Ea license gets destroyed so more Pro football games can be made!
The momentum and physics looks great. You seem like an EA ***** to me based on the latter of your post.

I really liked that Flacco forced some throws and really it really felt like he felt the pressure.

# 313 eaglesfan27 @ 06/12/09 09:53 PM
Forgot 2 other points I meant to make:

I wish the intereception rate was lower as it seems to prevalent (in this admittedly small sample), but I'm very glad to see that they aren't being returned for pick 6's nearly as easily as before.

LBZ, You seem to have some pull here with Ian... I have seen your posts and agree with you 100% on almost all you write as far as defensive line play, OLB/ Safetie issues and outside runs, etc... Please have them fix defense! Defense wins championships! Did anyone see Ray Lewis in that video? He is a sideline to sideline guy and he couldn't come close to getting to Chris Johnson on the outside! It seems tough to run up the middle but easy to the outside. Everytime it's a run to the outside it's 1 on 1 with 1 man to beat for a td EVERYTIME it seems! Why does Ray Lewis attack the line consistently when the play is a toss or sweep to the outside? He takes himself right out of the play... Where is his play recognition of 99 or whatever he is?

I have posted this before about defensive line play and I know you have as well, but I would love to play with the star defensive lineman of the league and be able to have control with them and dominate from a variety of moves - swim move Right and Left, spin move, and power moves. If the offense is doing a dive and I am A. Haynesworth and he's coming at me and I'm being blocked and say he is going to the right of me then I can make a move to release from the Olineman blocking me and fill the gap and stuff him!

Defense is where it's at! You can't focus 100% on offense and not give defense the same attention! That makes for a lopsided game. No matter what they do with offense I know I can put up points on anyone. If they improved the defense then maybe that wouldn't be the case. Defenses should be able to dominate with the better defensive teams that is. Make that "in the game"!!! Runs to the outside need to be fixed somehow though! I'm not even sure if I was Ray Lewis and as soon as the snap of the ball and I knew the run was going right and i sprinted over there from the snap that I could even come close to being able to tackle Chris Johnson??? Is that realistic? I know C. Johnson is fast but c'mon! Don't make him unrealistic and unstoppable because there was lack of defensive adjustments this year as far as dline and linebackers go...

Make it happen LBZ PLEASE!!! We NEED YOU!!!

Seriously, what is wrong with you people? "Chris Johnson doesn't run like he does in real life." Are you f***ing kidding me? Did Chris Johnson run like he does in real life last year? Has any RB ran like he does in real life on Madden? WTF is wrong with some of ya'll? If I was Ian I'd say, forget this. Next year, you'd be finding out about Madden at E3 if it was up to me. Now I'll admit, some people have some legitimate gripes, but this one here....this is stupid IMO. So you won't buy the game if they don't change the run animations.......so what. The game is already practically sold. It's already getting rave reviews from E3 and winning all kinds of E3 awards. You think the masses aren't noticing that? If you don't buy the game I guarantee there'll be 3 more people waiting in your spot. I really don't understand the complaint. Everyone was complaining about the old run animation, which I thought was fine, so Ian and co. changed it. They even got feed back from the community on some of the changes. Now they've changed it and you don't want to buy the game because you don't like it. Well don't!!! That was simple wasn't it? Man, I'm telling you........you guys are lucky I'm not Ian. I'd be like F U, F U, F U, You're cool, I'm out. Seriously! I'm in no way a Madden fanboy or anything, but this is ridiculous. You got posts talking about tackle angles and pursuit of the ball carrier and the pass rush or lack there of. Then here comes some guy: "I don't like the way they run." WTF? Is Madden really so complete that we can focus on how guys run now? It would be one thing if we we're talking about locomotion, momentum, or change of direction here, but we're just talking about the regular way a guy runs. Get real!! I'm sorry, I'm old school. I'd rather be able to do a screen play against a blitz before I worry about if the runner has enough "lean" in his run. I know some of you are not gonna like this, but I had to get it off my chest. It's the middle of June. The game is going gold next month. Guess what. That's how they're gonna be running when the game comes out. We don't need 50 million posts talking about how you're not gonna buy the game if they don't change the run animations. They're not changing. Therefore, there's no need for you to be around for awhile right? Since you're not gonna buy the game and all.

Ian - I cannot stress enough for me how impressed I am with the gigantic leap you and your team made from last year - specifically with presentation. I know this game is not perfect. I can concede ther are some areas that need improvement like the animations or the DL/OL blocking. But I can forgive these things as long as the game is fun. I wont mention the "other" game - but the reason people are partial to that because overall it was fun..and playing it was like an experience. The gameplay had more holes than swiss cheese at times..but you tend to forget that when you are enjoying the heck out of a game.

For the first time in this "next" generation - Madden seems fun. The presentation makes it look like an experience. And because of that - I am excited and I thank you. I leave it to the rest to disect the the passing routes, and the sock colors, etc. I am just happy to have some good ol' fashioned video game football. God Bless.

( Lendale White looked rail thin though)

Lendale White lost a lot of weight during the offseason.

uh yeah he rushed for over 1000 yds and was one of the MAIN reasons we had the season we did...outside the OL he's the BEST player on offense. And for the record the bears nor texans made the playoffs but i'm suer Forte and Slaton are rated accordingly as they had GREAT seasons as well.
