IGN has posted some Madden NFL 10 videos. They are more commentary than actual gameplay. Including the Pro-Tak system, authenticity, blocking and layer animation.
The good thing is this is still in alpha. All of our feedback will not be addressed/tuned until they move to the beta stage. I say this because for me the pocket in the alpha build is still slow forming. The same thing for the blocking. They should tune it in beta so that G will not completely ignore the defender.
LB did you notice any double team blocking on passing plays in the alpha? I know in 09 they had double team blocking on run plays but not passing.

Here is the thing with the double team blocking and the reason why we have not addressed the question that much is we really don't know how it is going to turn out in the end. On CD we did see some double team blocking on run plays. I specifically looked at it for the 3-4 defense. The issue is gonna be consistency. So we are sorta refraining from committing right now to saying it shows up every play or shows up a great deal. Again, we did see it, adem and I specifically. He paused his game and showed me a really nice one. I saw some as I played and I never had trouble playing Inside Linebacker. I do hope they leave the engage points where they are or even make it better, because I ran around wreaking all kinds of havoc with Ray Lewis and had Ed Reed over my back shoulder picking off alot of passes inside.
Now on to the pass blocking, unfortunately, I didn't see it on pass blocking. Not saying they can't do that because with the new tool they are working with, they can swap animations out fairly easily as Ian did that right in front of me when I was telling him how bad the DT's were performing the Twist stunt. But of course double pass blocking requires logic, I'm not sure it is there so ...

This is something that has me a bit worried. In past games the amount of interceptions were way over the top. Did you notice any less in Madden when you played?

better hope so , fat albert gonna be wreakin havoc on that ***. ive been clamoring for the pocket for years now. definitely gonna change how people pass in this game. does the pocket formation happen consistently or is it not as common as youd like it to be? the way berry sacked ben on the play where he warps around the guard looked mighty strange

To be honest with you Ed Reed was really the only Safety I noticed doing this. He's nasty as hell in this game and I love the way they had him playing in the CD build. He picked off one of Tavares Jackson's intermediate passes the exact same way he anticipated and jumped the Pennington pass in the wild card play off game, the 2nd INT where he just bolted like a jet from deep and came up and picked it off. He had one of those moments. I was like ohhhhhhhhh sh*t check this out and called a few devs over and told them, it was pretty LOL. He flies down on the run as well too. So from the CD build, I was really digging the stretched ratings.
From the Jimmy Fallon video and these videos, I must say that I'm pretty happy at seeing a whole mess of things that just look a million times better than last year.
I like:
The QB drop-back and where he holds the ball.
The path of the ball through the air. Didn't look like it was going 77 MPH. Nice.
Pocket is slow, but still... seeing a DE behind the QB being blocked by the T almost brings tears.
The hit-while-throwing then lame duck pass was AWESOME. I honestly don't even care if the animation clips like that, it was great.
However, there's two big things that I have yet to see improvements on. I'm not saying these won't be improved, I'm just saying that in the videos so far I've seen nothing that makes me feel like it is any better.
1) Any added sense of weight or momentum to the running. Everyone still cuts on a dime. I want to be able to turn while sprinting and have a smooth rounded turn. The Wildcat videos were the best examples, and I saw no momentum.
EDIT: I'd like to add to (1), that I remember seeing somewhere that back in the day, like Madden 2004, momentum was "exaggerated". I just want to say that momentum has never felt better in a football game, to me, than in Madden 04.
2) Improved route running animations. Just like (1), the routes don't seem to show any sense of momentum, slowing down for a few steps before cutting, gradual acceleration off the line, or anything. The blog on route running was very promising. Have yet to see anything in game to back this up.
Honestly, if I see evidence of those two improvements, I'm sold.

It's really going to depend on the offensive play. We emphasized that the Oline should be setting up differently based on the QB drop. If it is a play that is supposed to mimic a 3 step drop play, then the OT's should not be trying to carry anyone wide. This was the issue last year in 09, when the DE's would just run right in untouched. They did it because the tackles were setting up exactly like they would on deeper QB drop plays. We told them they need to have the tackles set up differently. It's really like this. On deeper drop plays the Tackles should form a pocket. On short drops the tackles should help form a wall. We will not see any of this stuff I'm referring to until beta if they have time to implement it.
Two reasons I want a faster pocket
1) With the new game speed being slower, you have too much time to pick apart zones.
2) I was able to get outside more than I would have liked.
So I think that pocket has gotta set up quicker. I'd really like the DE's/OLB's to be about 1 yard from the QB as he pops off his heels.

i hear you on that. did you get to play with any defensive ends like freeney and such? does he dominate tackles like he does in the NFL? i remember him doing his signature spin move, bull rush against elite tackles like jonathon ogden and chris samuels. its a thing of beauty. they say players play to their ratings. he is elite, so im expecting him to be right there with the Qb once hes finished his dropback. and just harassing him all game long.
one more thing, do TE's and RB's help the tackles by "chipping" the DE's?

I guess I'll have to wait and see if this gets fixed then. I've had games where as a team I ended up with 7ints. Hopefully the stretched ratings has an effect on this. More swat animations by the computer would help also.
wow this look sooo amazing! the speed of the game has been slowed down finally, thank god
Agreed.
I lost any hope I had about them fixing the game speed, especially when so many people seemed content with the speed of the previous titles. This is without a doubt, one of the best decisions they made.

I didn't get a chance to play with Freeney. But in our two player games Kane used Quinten Groves of the Jags and he was bringing some good pressure. It wasn't cheap he actually just beat the blocker got around him and got in. As for "chipping" I don't think it'll make it this year.

groveS? the rook? goddamn lol. i imagine his rating aint too high either. wow...freeney will be a monster
shame about the chipping, was lookin forward to laying d-lineman out with portis
