Which is nice because Ben shakes guys off. Very rarely does just one guy take him down.

Romo on the other hand avoids contact altogether but doesn't really use his strength to get out of those situations

I hope the two styles are distinguishable

Lmao "cheese"/"abused" are starting to get overly used like "*****" and "placebo"

Which means when a QB is breaking out, the defense is still moving in. So you may break the first tackle, but you still might get hit.

After watching those vids, I'm very much impressed with the progress of the game. And to think that there's 2 months left of tuning....Oh the potential!

The blocking looked great. The pocket, the qb drop back, the animations....I'm very pleased with what I saw. Madden 10 is going to be top notch.

Yeah, this sounds like a pretty neat game play mechanic. With this you should be able to recreate the Eli moment from Super Bowl 42.

Same, he had no clue about any of these new improvements.

The grass color is really starting to annoy me. Looks like those ones on NCAA - puke brown or something.

Grass is GREEN damnit.

I was impressed with the solid User-Catch by Ian.

The grass could use some help... its kinda annoying that something like grass would stick out... it should just be a background thing that we don't notice. But .. I think that its probably not an easy thing to get right.

Overall, I am highly impressed with the gameplay. Its gonna be a long summer...even longer if they say online franchise made it in.

wow after skipping to the blocking video i would gladly go make ian a ham sandwich. its a thing of beauty. like another poster said, it reminds me of 2k5/2k8 pocket formation. i was worried that the ends would never get to the qb but always end up behind him being steered away by the tackle but Ian says that ratings play into that. the better the DE the closer he will get, and the better the tackle the farther he will be. cant wait to sack romo and eli with orakpo!

also i notice that man coverage is alot tighet now. the TE labeld "Y" is being covered by a LB and gets his route jumped. thank god.

when the ball is snapped its hard to see if the animations of the wrs have been changed as much, cant see them accelerate, but you can see them decelarate before making a cut which is nice.

the post route by the Wr on the right is most noticable. when he makes his cut there is no momentum to it. i hope thats fixed.

i was reading this thread at work and couldnt see a video so i couldnt wait to get home, and man oh man, cheesers beware, the pocket will definitely change your game up and make you read a defense and rush. IAN you have earned your paycheck!

THIS IS THE YEAR!!!!

edit: one more thing, when the defensive end is close enough to the qb whether hes still engaged with the tackle or on a b-line to the qb will he try to swipe at the ball? that would be nice to see

I'm still waiting on some gameplay footage that says "You must purchase Madden this year". So far I'm not blown away, but theirs still 4 months till release so I'll just have to wait and see. Looking good so far though.

Did anyone notice the warping in the pro-tak video? Towards the end of it?

I'm sure this is because it's in slomo...right?

You know what I hope to see along with the "running the hoop" outside rush animation? A "chopping" at the ball by the defender to strip it from the QB. Defenders are taught this and it would really add to the impact of those certain pass rushers who do it so well.

Add in a "Ball strip" rating?

The good thing is this is still in alpha. All of our feedback will not be addressed/tuned until they move to the beta stage. I say this because for me the pocket in the alpha build is still slow forming. The same thing for the blocking. They should tune it in beta so that G will not completely ignore the defender.

That's the thing I talked about most in the documents I sent them after CD. DE's and OLB's "running the arc" dipping their hips and doing it faster. Again this is alpha but I want that pocket to set up faster.

I agree with this. When watching the IGN vids I noticed the DE's coming upfield, just not very fast. I'm willing to bet you could run away from them fairly easily with an athletic QB at the speed they were coming upfield.

There's a reason they pay those premier defensive ends and OLB's who can get into the backfield so fast.

Just watch video of James Harrison. He's textbook to what you are describing. Terrell Suggs is another one. They both get underneath that OT and bull towards the QB QUICK! It's not lacodasical.... it's there like NOW when they get a good jump on the ball. That, and the chopping of the ball would have me taking a week off of life to play madden .

After watching the vids, I've gained a whole new level of respect for Ian and his team. These guys are taking this very serious and are trying to make the game realistic as possible, with all the new technology in Madden10. Great job, can't wait.

Here are my impressions from the videos.

- Pro Tak is going to make the running game more fair. I hated when you would tackle the ball carrier and push him over the first down marker, but now if teamates are near that won't happen easily. The ball carrier will be stood up and he will have to earn his first down.

- Authentication was improved as expected. The person Ian was talking to did not act impressed or anything, which suprised me. I was happy to hear Ian talking about the details people here at OS have asked for and EA has given us, I think he took pride in making sure they got those details right. Towels, correct numbering on helmets, hand warmers, etc...

- Creation of a pocket was great to hear. I liked hearing Ian explain that people did not feel safe sitting in the pocket before, and they had to roll out or drop back. The fact that they are making us play sim by creating a real pocket is a great sign for SIM football.

- I thought the manual catch made in the Blocking video at 0:37 showed that we will have decent control of our WR's and CPU CB's will not do magical swat's every time the ball is out of their reach.

- Layer Animation brings more realism to the game. The QB duck passes will surely bring some INT's, but also help out an offense by taking an incomplete pass instead of an automatic sack every time. It should benefit both sides of the ball evenly, while bringing in some new variables we have not had in the last few years.

I was happy to see a DE that close to the QB without magically sheding the block and sucking in the QB for a sack. Swat's at the line should happen if the defense tightens up the pocket enough.
