Madden 2010 News Post

Peter Moore has posted the first screenshot of Madden NFL 10.

"While we have a number of announcements and updates to come over the next several weeks leading up to next month's NFL Draft, I'm excited to debut the first screenshot from this year's game right here this week. The old adage says, "A picture is worth a thousand words", and that is certainly true in this fantastic shot. How many improvements can you pick out? The Madden dev team will call each one out in their blog later this week."

That's a uniform issue, we might need to make a uniform thread on here again to get all these little problems fixed, the developers for ncaa have one why shouldn't we?

Amazing Pic Ian I Love The On field Refs. So Ian when i Play In the Superbowl in Franchise in madden 10 it will Have the Giants blue In the Endzone if Im playing with them. Sorry to be offtopic But i got 1 question will their Be Classic teams in Madden 10?

# 325 TrapStar215 @ 03/23/09 06:10 PM
Omg they added Hand Towels(Hope you can move it around his body). Omg they added Ref's(hope all 6 or 7 are there). And it actually looks like a real QB standing in the pocket looking down field to throw the ball.

Thanks again....this just bugs me because the Giants in 09 has it "all white" in that spot but the Steelers have "Steeler" there. I think some other teams as well have nothing there

Hopefully its not too late for them to make a change if we need them too(Though I have posted that edit for the Steelers about every thread dealing with uniforms since Ian showed up here)

Anyways nice pic and Im glad to see the refs and chain gangs out there

Much better then what NCAA was doing with their stuff, just scaring the hell out of people.....i.e.. this and what looks like good ol "roll and chuck"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they did always have the Gatorade coolers on the sidelines? I don't I've ever seen them in previous Madden's. I may be wrong.

My thoughts exactly lol.

This looks amazing. In conjunction with all the other improvements, I think this game is finally going to make everyone forget about the "other game".

That being said, if I had to nitpick, I'd say Ben looks a little small/thin to me. He's missing a bit of bulk and his trademark double chin! Also great to see hand towels as a detailed touch (for those who really care like Guillotine). I guess some people will move on to the handwarmers (I know Ben's is integrated straight into his jersey), but to see the steps the game is taking this year is tremendous.

Looks great! Everything from this picture looks improved.

Very nice touch with the towels. Here is a question, do you also have hand warmers? Might be asking for a bit much heh.

Also don't forget if you do have them some defensive players wear these, primarily DB's.

WR's have them as well.

Ian, next week can you show Roethlisberger passing and one of a running back running? These are the make or break things. If a QB or RB looks like a robot, im not buying.

First reaction to the post...I was reading the blog and as i scroll down some I go o look its a picture from the super bowl this year and I go back to reading the rest of the blog and as I take a second look at it WOW. Thats about as good looking as you can get....

Big pluses from looking at this picture. Proper Oline movement. The Tackle is picking up the edge rusher instead of the Guard. The G is no longer forced to block standing straight up. Also Line is playing with a wider base which is used for good leverage IRL. Great stuff.

BUT I checked out the two players you can make out the most 89 and 92 or 97 on the sideline. 89 Would be properly represented on the steelers as their big TE so I can see why he is so big but there was no 97 on the steelers roster and 92 is james harrison. In this screenshot I would say he is white and built like a linemen. It makes me think that you are still using the same line from 09 but I did another check and 89 was a tall skinny black guy in 09.

Ok just woke up from my nap and heard that the towels are fully animated based on player movement... My reaction was...

I agree the ball is still slightly big but we actually even reduced it in size almost 10% this year. Here it is in Madden NFL 09:

(sorry, couldn't find a pro comparison image)

If we make it too much smaller it means we'll have to re-do nearly all of our ball-carrying animations (catches, run cycles, etc) because the ball will no longer be placed correctly. That is obviously a tough sell - to spend hundreds of hours tweaking animation data just to decrease the ball size by 3%. I just wish it had been right in the first place! Argh! Look at the size of it in Madden 06!

I'll see what we can do to shrink it just a tad bit more though.
Well, what you could do to make it look better without tweaking all the animations is to at least tweak the color, lighting and shape of it. It's too... shiny, like the specular highlighting is overdone. And when I say shape, I mean how a real football is not perfectly round, but is wider at the seams and slightly flatter on the surfaces.

I know you hear this for a lot of things, but see APF2k8's football. Of the things they did better than Madden, their ball is one of my favorites as this is a pet peeve of mine. It's almost perfect.

Good point, it's like racing games they show beautiful screenshots but it's usually from an angle you can't play the game from, or do we finally get multiple/customizable camera angles this year.

Just found time to check and wow. Madden '10 is definitely looking like one of those game I can find myself playing for months. I hope we get more screens like this in upcoming blogs but maybe that's to much .

As for the cleats in the screen those aren't new. The ones I've seen people point out on the image are the cleats that most if not all linemen used in 09. Still hoping that they apply colors and variations to cleats. (Someone told me there was some sort of limitation and they could only use reebok brand cleats but I have no clue if that's true. Even if it is there are still other options then what we see ingame)
