I hope so because that is an annoying bug in '08. I encountered a similar play last night. But it was in my favor.

Aww OK....... now I understand the entire situation

I agree that the 2B should of picked up that ball but I wouldn't worry because I'm confident that they fixed something that noticeable in the final build

Just saying that the 1B animation wasn't pretty to begin with makes me think that the entire result was a glitch from the start

Hey at least the catcher didn't run out to field it

I had kind of a weird one in the last game I played. I hit a VERY HIGH pop up between 1st and 2nd base...the RF ended up making the catch on the infield dirt. Odd.

There was more diversity in the full version. But it was not entirely new.

We had to ask about commentary.....it was very loud in the room. 5 games going....10-15 people howling....screaming...crying(okay...only one guy crying)...
So I asked about commentary.
The audio guy(I'm very sorry...I forgot his name)....said they added a good amount of new commentary(to an already pretty big base!)...and also playoff/world series specific stuff.

That's all I got to go on...I did strain to listen and heard some new stuff and it seemed less redundant. Granted...it was only 10-15 games though.

I was pitching and decided to play around with the video settings on my TV, after about 30 seconds they showed the home plate and my catcher chatting with the rays batter, few seconds after the the dude starts playing his bat like it was a guitar with my catcher cheering him on, the crowd went nuts. After that stopped, few seconds later they cut to the phanatic green guy thing...

Ha...just put the controller down and watch the show(pun intended!)
The hotfoot is my fave in the demo.

I just slid straight through a player on back to back at bats trying to break up the double play. Very annoying.

Like I said I don't see how this wasn't made a top priority. Lots of exciting things can happen on broken up double plays.

I know this may sound harsh but to me for a baseball game on these advanced consoles in 2009 to not have collision detection is not acceptable at all. Alot older baseball games on far less powerful systems had this. PLEASE FIX THIS FOR NEXT YEAR.

That is what annoyed me so last year and for it to the same and to see it again since the play at second IS a play that happens alot during the game is kinda sad for me.

I'm very much appreciative of the progressive lighting and the better texture quality this year though however the "gameplay" is like last years. Solid but not well documented in camera angles again...

To be BRUTALLY honest I've played the show on ps3 2 years in a row and now with 09 I wanted a really big improvement. Lighting and stadium detail are fine and a few hundred more animations are great but I'm doubtful it'll be the amazing game that mlb 10 will be next year with it's player models and hit detection in place.

It looks like neither game has collision detection for 09. The adjustable camera is a nice addition to MLB 2k though. The show has a lot of camera angles in the game that they use for development purposes, it would be nice if they carried it over to the retail version.

Tie game, Top 7, the Rays (CPU) just put on a suicide squeeze on me and it worked.

Didn't see that last year at all.

Yeah, you have to watch out the CPU is very aggressive in trying to get that run in. All scenarios have to play out in your mind.

I agree. This game would jump leaps and bounds just from camera work alone. It's so d*mn pretty...show it off...lol.

Not to jump ahead (and please people, don't take this as unappreciative or overlooking 09...I assure you it's not) but I agree with Tomba in that regard.

Add in the updated player models, collision detection and hopefully some more broadcast cameras (I LOVE the one shown off in those early videos this year) and it would be the major jump some might be looking for here.

Also, I appreciate the touches made to fielding (and I know they'll be more prevalent and optimized in the final copy), but I really hope for a bit more fluid feel in the future. There is still that sluggish quality to the fielding overall. It has improved, but I hope this continues to be a focus.

While I'm griping...lol...I'd like to see the commentary looked into more deeply to. Matt V is great, and the situational commentary is second to none. I'd like to see more fluid interaction between the "booth" guys though...and maybe a studio or "on field" guy to toss it too (or both).

anyway, didn't mean to go into 2010 wishlist mode...lol. Just kind of free-firing here. I think it speaks volumes of the game's quality that my only gripes are more periphial and not really directly tied to gameplay (except the fielding, which is more a user preference than a full functionality issue).

Okay.../end book

I had a really weird play today in the demo. I was playing at the Rays and pitching to Howard. The defense shifted automatically, and Howard hit a grounder to the SS, who was just off 2nd base. I picked up the ball and threw to first, but the first baseman caught the ball like 2 feet off the bag. I watched the replay, and he never actually went to cover the bag on the throw. WTF?

Has anyone else seen this?

That was something that was not fine tuned yet. They had mentioned they had recently got players covering the bag/ tagging properly etc. working properly a little before we got there. There was no evidence of this in the version we played.

Okay, gotcha. Thanks! I figured it was a bug in the way the Howard shift was programmed, which is no big deal as long as it's tuned. I was losing the game, though, and mad as hell that I got Howard out technically but that he still got on base .

Loving this game! Can't wait till the 3rd.

but there is no evidence of it in the demo i've been playing either. Just cause you didn't see it doesn't mean it was fixed. I'll bet there will be a few lil quirks like that that will slip through simply cause they don't show up during the testing stage...
