Not bad, not bad at all. The lighting in the beginning made it a little difficult to see the ball. Had one hiccup: The rays threw my guy out at third for the final out but the third baseball never tagged him. Just stood there with one foot on the base and glove reached out ready for the throw, even after receiving it. The ump called me out and everyone ran off the field but left the 3rd baseman still standing there, with an outreached glove. lol

Daaayum SCEA What a MASTERPIECE! This game looks & feels soooo much better than 08...NEVER thought that would be possible.
I did somethin' a while ago i've NEVER done in a baseball game...and that was
i struck out the side(top of the D-Ray order...wait for it...
BY LOOKING!!! struck 'em all out by LOOKING that said, i'm down 4-0 w/ ONE f@%#$ hit can't wait 'till this bad boy drops...WOW

The lighting, the controls, bat speed, pitching, player mannerisms,etc...it's ALL there...'cept for the smell of fresh cut grass.

Playing on a Samsung 46in LCD 550 1080p was choppy at first. Well, I forced it to 1080p, and converted HDMI2-PC input and it actually decreased the choppiness completely, and beautified the graphics. Dont really understand it but its obviously my TV's fault. By the way the game is SICK! I stand corrected, Chris and everyone else at SCEA

Wow, what a game. Kazmir was holding me to a no-hitter, while his team had 4 hits. I gunned a guy down trying to stretch 3 with the cut-off in the second. And then Howard, who struck out the previous at back, ended the game with a Walk-Off Home Run.

The Lighting, FANTASTIC. The crowd, AMAZING, especially how you can see the guys scooting by other fans sitting when trying to get out, nice touch. The game looks more polished, and seems to have better textures, etc than '08. The players just "pop" more.

The controls are GREAT, they feel much tighter, reminds me of MVP. They dont feel as "floaty" as '08, or rather, '08 now feels a bit floatier than this after playing this.

The frame-rate is suspect, as in, it feels to dip when the pitcher goes into his windup, but that can all be due to the early build this is, and easily cleaned up. And the replay cuts are smooth as glass, and dont have that slight hitch '08 had.

You can check swings, but I also think that all plays into player's plate discipline, etc in certain counts. More realistic this way.

And the meter, while it is much improved, I will still use classic (and did in the demo), since it does not take my eyes away from the action. Love the catcher dropping signs, and batters/players chewing gum. And the behind the pitcher camera angles seem better tweaked, as well as the pitcher when you are at bat is more imposing, than before.

Did I mention the progressive lighting was AMAZING? Best I seen in a sports game yet.

Not to get nitpicky because it would depend on what time of year, but in June and July it doesn't get dark until around 9 o'clock. Based on an average paced game that started at 7 that wouldn't be until the 6th inning.

Believe me, the transition is amazing the way it is, and I could care less if a game started and was dark by the 4th.

I was merely curious.

Two of the new foul ball swing animations look just like batting stance guy

Ryan Howard has his custom warm up swing.

Victorino looks like he has the jitters. Ruiz has the right motion but just way too much. Most of the stances are better than last year though.

After you pick your pitch and move the cursor, if you let go of the cursor... will it go back to the middle, meaning you have to hold the cursor where you want it while you do the meter?

The TV is like 2 months old too, never any problems. Let me know what you think dude, thanks.
Hehe...No problem....we obviously want every user to have the same experience with the game...and it's no secret that our graphics guys (as well as all areas of the game) kill themselves to make the game play flawlessly.

Have you tried '08 on your new TV? Just curious.

The fact that most users (including us) are not seeing framerate problems is a bit perplexing. I agree that some users may not notice it, but if it is as bad as some of you are saying, it would be hard to miss.

The only video I have seen of people outside this building playing the game has come from the videos posted in this thread and the videos on IGN, which were also from the demo.

They are here:

http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/143/14307517/vids_1.html

I also know that framerate was not mentioned once during the community day...and those guys were not shy about pointing anything and everything out.

Chris

First, I'm not seeing any studdering or framerate issues. At all.

OK, some gameplay impressions. First game I played was on Legend. I got the Rays out 1-2-3 with Hammels striking out two. My first AB, I walked on 4 pitches. Next AB, walked on 5 pitched. Next AB, walked on 7 or 8 pitches. Bases loaded, 0 outs!

Out came the Rays pitching coach. All of a sudden Kazmir is doing nothing but blowing fastballs by me. K. Then another K. 2 outs, bases still loaded. Kazmir gets me down 0-2 and tries to get cute with a slider. He hung it, I was early but managed to bloop it over the SS and in front of the leftfielder for a two run single! The fans went wild and so did I.

Kazmir struck out the next hitter, so he actually K'd the side, but in between that was a hit and 3 walks! Meanwhile I had no problems with the Rays in the top of the first so I am up 2-0 after 1 inning. Legend mode? HA!! I was ready to conquer it! Slice it's throat and claim victory in my first attempt. I was on top of the world!!!!

So I lost that game 9-2.

Next game was on HOF, as I actually felt like getting batters out this time. I ended up winning 2-1.

Overall, I think I'm in love. The new fielding animations are awesome. The bat speed adjustment is awesome. Obviously we don't see many pitching animations (oney 2), but Hammels new motions looks great. The batting stances are such an improvement.

And LITTLE THINGS! One time as I came to the plate, I noticed the umpire looking at a lineup card. Awesome! Vendors walking up and down isles. Fans shimmying through rows. And I only played 2 games!

I really cannot wait for the full version!

Just finished my 2nd game, on All Star, went 9 innings 0-0 and Utley cranked a walk-off homer.

I'm terrible at hitting, but this game is awesome.

Well being a Yankees fan I am used to long innings and long games. By the time the Yankees and Red Sox reach the 3rd/4th inning it is around 9:00 PM!

Plus, Knight mentioned a few days ago that he thinks time of year has an effect on the day/night transition. When I played the demo, Vasgersian mentioned it was 61 degrees. So that could be spring or fall, where it does get dark earlier.

I'm impressed... The field degradation is top notch and the lighting with the day/night transition makes me feel like I'm back playing real baseball. I could go on and on about the ejections,reactions,etc.. but I'd be here all day. GREAT! Job, I can't wait to play the full game.

yea, actually the only game I had played up to that point when I mentioned that was on legend and I had given up 8 runs in 4 innings and scored 2 myself. so...upon further review it was probably done correctly.

I am in a 0-0 game now in the 6th and it seems like it progressed a little slower...I guess we shall see in a month!

So is it possible to change pitchers or batters? I don't think there is but one of my guys got ejected so I got to put Pat Burrell in

I think only by ejection.

# 257 TheRock88 @ 02/06/09 02:11 AM
I also have a little stuttering going on when ever the pitcher is in his windup motion. Other then that, everything else is great so far. I have a 19" Samsung and am playing it in 720p. I never had a problem with 08 so I'm assuming it will probably be fixed when the real game comes out.

Won 5-1 with a 2 run HR by Joyce and a solo HR by Navarro. March 3rd cant come soon enough.

Still experiencing the issue from 08 on a hit up the middle with the player just running past it and not reacting.

The framerate issues are only on HDTVS.
