I'm loving the no-calls this year. I was D Fish and got bowled over somethin' terrible trying to take a charge (in the key) by Pierce. He made the layup and no whistle blew for either side. All I could think was........Home Cookin', I'm gonna get they *** when they come to the Staples Center" Lol. It was so realistic.

I see some are saying that the game looks "bland". Based on the demo, they got it right this year IMO. In the past, 2k games were always too saturated. Meaning, uniforms like the Cavs were "too red" instead of "brick red" or the paint in the Nets court was "too blue" instead of dark blue.

Anyway, with the R-stick, you can adjust this, so move it closer to the man if you want to play closer on him and vice-versa. You can also choose to shade him to one side or the other by moving the R-stick to the right or left of the man -- all of this is represented on the "web" icon.
Thanks a lot dude, I'll mess around with it as soon as I get out of class and back to my room

I was concerned it would be another jaggie texture mess like 2k8 but no, this game looks like a bunch of little NBA players are living in my tv.

the animations, textures, courts, atmosphere, faces and image quality are all improved from 2k8 and the game play... heavenly bro, heavenly

still not as good dynamic lighting as Live 09 but somehow it looks more realistic. I'm guessing it depends on what court you are playing on as well.
Couldn't agree more. It's very smooth. And IMO the dynamic lighting (Live 09) makes it look fake. It's pretty cool that even in 2k8 some arenas had different lighting i.e. Staples Center's "Lights Out" lighting was very effective.
Even looking at the demo vids, it looks more realistic than Live.

let me fix mine too, it looks amazing with all the other games but this one! maybe is not compatible, the game engine is too old for my TV?

This game looks and plays amazing. A jump from last years 2k8.

Live doesn't even touch this game, aesthetically and gameplay wise.

PS3 Demo Impressions quick hitters...

Cons:
  • Pump fake slide is still there after all these years.
  • Noticeble lag when shooting the first free-throw of two. (Similar thing happened last year and they patched it.)
  • Crowd animations seem too canned IMO.
  • The player movement through screens seems hit or miss. They sometimes get stuck on their teamates when using screens.
  • Some minor slow downs in animation transitions during steals and blocked shots. (May be by design.)
Pro's:
  • Player movement is tremendously improved! The AI actually looks like they know how to play b-ball!!!
  • Defense much improved because of the control modifications they made. (It's more enjoyable now.)
  • Players are able to follow their own shot this year. Meaning, you can shoot a long/mid-range jump shot and attempt to rebound your miss.
  • Ball physics seem to be more realistic this year.
  • This year's PS3 version looks better than last year's!
All in all, it's a nice improvement. It's a must buy for me but it may not be justifiable for the casual fan.

The improvements made from last year to this year go beyond graphics and sound. It's very noticeable that the AI tries to play more realistic this year.

It's the compression. The demo/file is very compressed for the PS3. Not even close to full res. That's why it has no commentary, no plays to run, etc. Just wait till Tuesday bro.

The PS3 demo is not running at full res. It's more compressed than the 360 version. I thought it was obvious.

The game is not perfect. Faces are cleaner but still look cartoony to me and there is some sliding and superhuman dunks now and then.

But player models, animations, cpu ai and overall atmosphere are second to none in 2k. Each player has personality the WHOLE GAME has personality and is really immersive. A must buy once again.

I love how the players back off of a dangerous ball handler. Ray took a step back on Kobe to avoid embarrassment and got J'ed. Caught a mismatch with Bynum guarding KG. The Ticket crossed him, lowered the shoulder, and banged it on him. Everyone really plays like themselves. Odom took Pierce to the hole in the post. Pau is clever and quick with the midrange jumper. Paul Pierce is trouble from every angle, and I saw his patented spin layup. Even with no features, no play calling, no off the ball control(I mean, damn, 2k) this demo is a blast.

Ya'll got my money again, which is an accomplishment, since I just found out I stumbled my way into free copy club.

I drew 2 quick fouls on Kobe so they subbed THE MACHINE in. First play, hits a runner to his right over Fisher. Lakers fans getting their wish this year?

Doesn't have the super bearded look, and his hair is still kind of short.

WOW, after I unpaused it cut to a scene of Kobe on the bench waving his fist in the hair and shouting and celebrating the shot.

LAMAR AIRBALL RUNNING THREE LOL

not to pick a nit, but the other reason most games are optimized on 360 is just plain it's easier to develop for with better tools and a more PC like design. Most games start on the PC actually anyway and easily transfer to 360 and more difficultly sent o PS3 (split memory, less memory available in game, less productive dev tools)

this is not a big screct nor fanboy wishful thinking... it's common knowledge if you frequent any forums where the developers talk about such things.

Am I the only one who feels like 2k9 is like a patch to 2k8? It plays similiar but you notice a difference in certain things like the ISOmotion and player weight, but it doesn't feel nearly as different as 2k8 did compared to 2k7. Not knocking it because I'm going to buy it, just an observation.

I completely disagree. In addition to all of the animations and new features that'll be in the full game, the most important thing(to me) is that they removed major problems that have been plaguing 2k for YEARS.

NUMBER ONE

Irrational ball physics. In past years we had just ridiculous ball warping that practically ruined the game for me. Rebounding, steals, blocks, passing and loose balls were ruined by the ball either magnetizing to, or passing through players. Now I'm seeing the ball look more like it does in a soccer game. It bounces around and people react to it. If you touch it, it moves. FINALLY. I'll be honest, if this was the only thing changed, it'd be worth it for me.

Also-
2k finally has some of what I felt Live had, and if the masses find out about it, I think this war will shift in 2k's direction. 2k used to feel like it was resisting you. Once you found out the system it was great, but upon first play everything felt difficult. Shooting, blocking, stealing...it all had a "gooey" feel. Now it's all crisp and logical. When Paul Pierce goes up for a layup and I contest him, logic happens, not unique 2kisms.

This is the best Bball AI ever.

I'm not going to get into the crowd and the graphics and all that, but I think this is a huge step up, and will be not only a better game, but a more popular game. 2k has always been great at little things and keeping the door open for sim play, but now it has the solidity that I feel when I play Madden, in addition to the subtlety that the 2k series has been famous for.

Pau Gasol had a mismatch where Rondo was guarding him... as soon as I passed the ball to Gasol in the post, Garnett came immediately for the help defense and double team... SWEET
