I really don't understand people talking about the the flow of animations in 2k8. I used to love that game, but flow? I had so many problems with the movement of my players that I had to stop playing it. So unreal. And then, you complain about this NBA Live 09...

Didn't have any problem with CPU blocks. In two games I just saw one block (made by me), and the ref called a foul. Maybe it's the way you play the game...

I'm with Sage in the CPU making lots of shots. But I think we have to learn to use the defense.

The problem I see is people trying to play NBA Live like if it was 2k, and both are complete concepts of basketball. I like both.

I don't want to make the post huge, and I don't express my impressions cause its hard for me doing it in english, but I like the way Live is looking this year, and I think its a fresh and fun basketball videogame.

Express away dude. Your english was perfect in this post...

After playing the demo some more, Im left scratching my head on some of the animations(Im a game animation major). Some of the animations on the movement of the players happens so rapidly and gives the movement an unreal sense of weightlessness, where I KNOW the body just doesnt move or work the way its portrayed on some of these animations.

They improved the animations, but they def need more work on them. Lives looks better this year, but they have a ways to go. Its not bad though, enjoying it so far, but its a rental for me at this point.

LuvMIst, PM me when you read this. I been trying to get ahold of you man.

Glad you guys are enjoying it.

Trob, it could be the level. Remember with the right setup the game should be VERY playable this year... and enjoyable as well.

You english is superb. I would never have guessed it isn't your first language from that post.

What do you get a feel for this time? For guys that havent played Live every year
It won't be worth 60 bucks for me this year either. I just can't go backwards. It may be a step forward for the Live series which is cool for those fans, but it doesn't play as good a game as 2K7 imo, and I can't go back. If I had money and time to waste on it maybe, as it is I don't have that luxury.

I was playing on Superstar when the fade away threes happened. Also, again, it might be the demo, but it didn't seem to be any harder when I went up to Superstar.

I actually agree with you that someone could probably make this a pretty enjoyable game for me after a bunch of slider tweaks and what have you,I just don't feel like going through it. If 2K comes out with hot garbage, well, I guess I'd give it a sot at least, but from what I am hearing, that won't be the case.

Can't wait to try this when I get home. SO happy that it takes you back to the practice gym and you can just hop back into another game. Does it time you out after 2-3 games like most demos do?

# 68 Monta8 @ 09/04/08 12:32 PM
Demo didn't impress. Live 09 lost.

2K9

I'll be playing all night then, I'm sure. I always get annoyed at restarting the demo and quit after the 4th or 5th time, even if I want to play more. Ha, especially if there's some tutorial/video that you can't skip.

Are the hotspots super overdone like last year where you can nail off-balance turnaround fadeaways with Ray Allen just because he's on his hotspot? That was so easily abused online (especially Team Play, because people just camp or always run to those spots)...

It's not even supposed to be out yet for 360... oh well, have fun. It should be up on PSN relatively soon. It's up to Sony at this point.

Anyone with the demo: Can you please tell me which players on the Celtics and Lakers have sig. free throw routines?

Thanks

Just saw the edit.

Typically, the difficulty settings on the demo don't work. I could be wrong... maybe I'll try and find out.

Either way, if they didn't address the points we raised at the Community Day, you need to lower the shooting overall. Too many shots went in all around, especially up close.

I hear you about not editing. However, you'll probably end up "tweaking" 2k9 as well so... I guess, just go with what you like.

Pruitt just hit a turn around three on me, lmao. I had to turn the demo off at that point. I hope the shooting is addressed in the final. The fadeaway three's and some of the other shots that go in are rediculous. Still loving the demo overall tho. Can't wait to get in a full game.

Just played my first game.

I'll get my concerns out the way first.

CONCERNS-
*Game feels sluggish as far as the controls are concerned during games. I didn't feel that way in the gym. I expect players to 'burst' out of moves but it seems a bit stiff still. Not horrible, but noticeable.
*Saw a turnaround 3 pointer from Kobe (All-Star setting).
*Couple of blocked jumpshots by Gasol (mostly on turnarounds).
*Called one play but didn't know how to call them again. Not sure if I have to hold the LB and press one of the plays at the same time. But when you call a play, diagrams show up on the court. I wasn't sure how to follow them...yet.

POSITIVES-
*Did NOT see super PG play as Derek Fisher distributed the ball. He had about 3 assists in the short game.
*The Gym is INCREDIBLE! Can't even express how good this is.
*The entrance from the tunnel is great.
*Commentary is superb.
*Pau Gasol had 3 offensive rebounds for the CPU. Good to see the CPU fighting for boards.
*Block shots look great! There was one where Bynum was going for a two-handed layup off the glass and I used KG to swat the ball and his hands, thus getting a foul called against me. But it was good to see the variations in shot blocks.
*This one I love because it was a concern of mine- Shots DO rattle around the rim. I took shots from the post that bounced around and went in.

Overall, I'd give it a 7.5 but I'm going to play more. HUGE improvement however over Live 08.

I'll let you know what else I see.

that's what I figured... I was spotting New demos at 2am waiting for the PURE demo and when I refreshed and saw NBA Live 09... I thought ...oh Beluba you sly one... and then i thought ... oh crap, that might be a mistake and I hope the DL finishes before they pull it.

As for the demo... love how you can tweek so many options in the demo to get a feel for the game as well as ALL of the info (detailed control schemes etc)

I played and owned 08 and this feels slightly all too familiar but improved. I like the tweaked cameras, the improvement in graphics and lighting (which were already up there) the obvious improvement in flow and animations, the post play is much harder to dominate with (last year was a free pass in the paint) the touch passing to toss it around the horn is welcomed as is the release point being back on shots.... and thank goodness for the Academy screen while loading a game instead of enduring that horrible trivia game.

didn't get enough games in to get a real feel but immediately noticed the improvement in the feel and control of the animations. Still a few jarring moves when going for a dunk animation but overall tons better. Have to try tonight to get a feel for the pick n roll game and the play calling which I really like having instant access to. didn't notice any play art on the floor though.

oh yea and still the best commentary in sports games NHL series is great too (never played the show)

If the biggest complaint so far is that too many shots are going in, this could be a really good game. Sliders will easily adjust that, plus as Pared said earlier, he recommeneded that we might have to tweak shooting sliders right after community day. Not a problem.

Most important thing, IMO is animations and flow. So far things sound encouraging. I will download the demo tonight after work and post impressions.

Yup... I'm sure it was left as is for the casuals. They need to feel like they can hit any shot and often. This includes dunks, unfortunately.

But if the game is tweakable, it will certainly be worth some time. I'm sure, given the concerns we raised, it will be.
