QFT

For Defense, just hold the L stick and pressure up when they are trying to penetrate. Pull in a direction and ride him into a bad position. Switch for help so he can't get a layup and he'll back it out every time, make a bad pass or turn it over. The Lock on D is actually kinda similar to 2k in some ways. I got the exact same 2k backcourt animation to happen to Rondo.

There are some really heinous, raunchy animations in this game. The transitions are just terrible. Play for long enough, and you see some stuff that just doesn't look finished at all. When they change run speeds, some mid air shifts during dunks, some of the dunks themselves. They still have work to do. 2 years, I'd say.

It can be kinda fun though, even with all of its warts.

I just played one game trying to get a hang of the Pick & Rolls so I ran them everytime down the floor. Hold the Left trigger.

They work well. Once I understand how to get the man to Pop, Roll, etc., it should be cool as hell.

BehindShadows, the game does play well with Game Speed at 75.

I also noticed that there are new sliders when you got through User and CPU settings. Forgot to write them down.

Oh, and I finally won a tip off . Thanks beluba.

Turning up the game speed really makes the game play better. Thanx guys! EA deserves credit this year IMO.

is it true from what the videos look like that the fast breaks are much better than 2ks and actually look like there is room to move (spacing)? Or am I mistaken and guys somehow come from nowhere to catch up to you?

Wow, this game looks great. Can't believe I'm saying that about an EA bball game.

F'ing Sony!

The fast breaks arent much better than 2k8 imo. The D seems to have a little catch up speed and my teammates dont always keep up with me.

There's something definitely wrong with this demo. Its even worse now when i re-downloaded it. After a few minutes the screen just goes blank and everything freezes. I have to turn the console off and restart. Weird stuff, and i just tried some other demos and games and those worked just fine so i know it's not my console.
That sucks i really wanted to give it a try, it seemed worthwhile for once.

Damn, I absolutely love Live's moving jumpshots. Just flew off a pick from Odom, full-speed around Turiaf and sank a fading jumper along the left baseline with Kobe... naaaaasty. Looked just like some real Kobe is down to the way he kicked his right leg out.

I like the ball-handling -- it's not so goofy fast like 08 and once you get used to the anklebreaker timing, you can do some really nice stuff. I haven't had any real complaints about playing defense -- most of the shots that I challenged well (guy didn't pull his arms back to avoid foul, etc.) didn't go in.

Only funky shot so far was a 3 by Rondo as the clock wound down... nothing too bad, but it was kinda challenged. I'm very happy with it after playing a lot of Live 08 the past month or so. The speed feels much better to me, the rebounding is WAY WAY better, and I'm loving the new gameplay features. The lockon doesn't even need the L-trigger, by the way -- just stand in front of your man and it'll engage. The L-trigger is just for Team Play and whatnot and will pull you towards the man you're supposed to be guarding -- helps if you get caught on a bad switch or you just can't tell who you're guarding.

Also, in case you didn't notice, they have the 'What's New' menu and it has a full run-down of the controls (complete quickstrike/anklebreaker command list) as well as explanation of how to use the new gameplay features. Very helpful -- I'm really surprised at how deep this demo is... lots of options, adjustable rules/camera, the tutorials. Great job, EA.

Yeah, some funky transitional animations are definitely still there, but compared to Live 08, this is a world of improvement. And who knows how much is just early demo build issues and what will be in the final retail... I imagine that they've smoothed things out a bit since this demo build was made.

As a 2K head who has been enjoying Live 08 offline (and OTP) for the past month and a half, I'm definitely walking into the store on the 7th with $120 in hand to get both games.

Here is what I'm referring to:

pump fake, jab step, pump fake, jab step, pump fake, jab step...

That was a problem in 2k in the past. Is it an issue in the demo? Even just regular fakes?

The players feet shuffled enough that they traveled in the build I played.

this game is dope..since the gameplay is so short I find myself doing dumb stuff in the practice gym..I stole all the balls from 2 courts thinking that it would cause a meltdown or something within the demo, but they actually came over to the court were all the balls were and took them back lol..Ray Allen's jumper is PERFECT..They got it down to the way his pinky is when he releases the shot..

yeah..Its slower when you jab towards the basket..but if you jab sideways you can damn near go around the whole perimeter

pretty solid effort on EAs part, im impressed w\ the demo....some of these animations kill me though...but thats to be expected..

I remember watching the first gameplay footage of Live 2001 for ps2. The first thing I thought was "damn, those animations look so jerky" or something to that extent. This was after playing a lot of NBA2k on dreamcast.

This game would be solid if they could ever get around to making animations transition smoother. It seems like such an apparent and simple thing they could have fixed in, oh i dunno, the last seven years!???

It's a pretty huge step. This is the first time I've ever tried to do this, but if you pump/jab etc towards the basket, you can basically travel your way to a dunk. I just did it with Kobe, and got so close that Bynum was able to dunk. It's pretty bad. I'd never do this in a real game, but it's a shame that the pump fake/jab step mechanic is broken.

EDIT: It's really, REALLY broken. I just did it again with Kobe and dunked it. It's pretty bad. This time, I didn't even do it early in the shot clock. I passed it around the perimeter like a normal play, and then in the last ten seconds: pump/jab/pump/jab/pump/jab-DUNK. From about 22 feet out.
