Madden 09 News Post

Evening,

There's been a lot of discussion around rosters and patches so i wanted to go ahead and post an update.

Rosters
For those that manged to get an early copy, you may have noticed that a roster update was recently made available. Many of you also noticed that Brett Favre was listed as the 2nd QB for the Packers. This roster was posted up as a final test of our roster update capability. We're actually prepping a more final roster update that should be available on 8/11.

As for our roster update frequency... Our current plan is to update rosters about every two weeks. This could change based on major roster movement but expect us to drop rosters on an average of twice a month through the Super Bowl.

Patch
Yes, I'm finally going to discuss the state and details of the patch.

Regarding the patch status... Yes we submitted a patch to MS and Sony about a week ago. They are currently going through certification and all indications point to them going live some time next week. Please understand that it's very easy for issues with the patch to delay the release of the patch. For example, if MS finds a new bug with the patch, it would easily be delayed by 2 weeks. We're hopeful the patch will drop on or around 8/14.

What's in the patch?

There's a number of changes in this patch. Most would never be noticed by the average consumer but some were targeted at improving the experience as quickly as we could.

1. Changed default quarter length of online leagues to 5 minutes.
2. Solved a very rare stability issue that occured when using a couple of playbooks.
3. Eliminated a button mashing glitch during high latency online games.
4. Eliminated a stability issue that sometimes occured while viewing the player HUB in online leagues.
5. Fixed a tricky disc eject glitch that occured at specific points of online games.
6. Kick Return Tuning - made improvements to help reduce frequent long kick returns.
7. Safety Tuning - eliminated issue where safeties in deep zone coverage would sometimes not react to a run to their side.
8. The game skill slider for interceptions was tuned to amplify it's affect.

What about some of the other early feedback on the game? Keep reading, we're not done.

Patch #2 & DLC
Now that some details for patch #1 have been discussed, it's important to note that we're not done. We think it's very important to continue to improve the game even after it's release. We're actually very happy with the non-patched product but having the ability to patch the game to make it the ultimate experience is fantastic capability that we definately want to use.

We're already hard at work on the 2nd patch and are also evaluating releasing a FREE DLC. Here's a sneak preview of what you might expect in future updates.

Patch #2 Possibilities
Please understand this list is under construction and won't be finalized until we've received more feedback on the final game from the community.
1. Ghost Juking OOB fix - aka CPU players running out of bounds
2. CPU Accuracy tuning
3. Amplify the field degredation effect (the system is currently working but is hidden by some of our late added post effects)
4. Other post-release community feedback

DLC Possibilities
The same warning comes with this one. We're still evaluating these changes and are working hard to get them out as quick as possible.
1. Accelerated Clock
2. CPU Sliders (you would have the all new human sliders as well as a brand new screen of CPU sliders)
3. Legacy Gen Controller Config
4. Madden Community Gamerpics (a variety of gamerpics that will show what community you belong to. make sure your community managers know you want an OS gamerpic.)

We're targeting a mid-September release for patch#2 and the DLC but will give constant updates and screenshots as we progress.

I look forward to seeing all of your very constructive feedback next week when the game is released and will do my best to answer additional questions here.

Phil

If people read correctly they would see that Phil stated

" It will be out on around the 14th" so it does not mean it is the 14th...it could be out tomorrow or monday...
Again, as was said earlier, THEN, someone from EA posted that it should be out Thursday (today). People aren't just making up the date, it was made pretty clear that today was the expected release date.

i'm seriously needing this patch because kick return just naturally always go to the 30 yard line making the gameplay for the cpu extremely quick as they usually can just dart up to the 50 or so in like 3 plays...

Im assuming Microsoft hasn't approved the patch yet otherwise it would already be available. Thanks Microsoft for always taking your sweet a** time in providing us with those critical game updates.

i do miss the accelerated clock, but its not a make or break deal for me....

the one thing that ive noticed (at least for ps3) is the overall lack of progression in franchises....i dont play that much online bc of the lack of lets just say honorable opponents so franchises are important to me and the fact that a huge proponent of that is lacking highly disturbs me....hopefully EA can fix this in a patch, bc it def takes the fun out of franchises

2K5 is still superior to Madden in a number of areas. Gameday environment; commentary; run-blocking; running game; weather animation/graphics, just to name a few off the top of my head.

And let's not forget: 2K5 had gang-tackling and the ability to trade future draft picks LOOOOONG before they were in Madden.

THERE IS NO REASON FOR COMPARISONS OR TALKING ABOUT HOW 2K WAS BETTER OR WHAT HAVE YOU. NONE. IF YOU CAN'T POST WITHOUT BRINGING THESE TYPES OF THINGS UP REGARDING 2K/EA, THEN DON'T POST. Carry on

In case it wasn't clear the first time.

No more warnings. Infractions will be handed out from here on out.

uniforms need DLC and a Fix for the uniforms can help.

For NFL head coach 09 as well uniforms need to be fixed.

and also fields won't degrade as well .

Did you read the post from myself that I quoted?

There is no reason for there to be talk about 2k in this thread. None. It has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. Those who violate that warning from here on out will be given infractions.

I've seen it asked a number of times but haven't seen an answer... do we have to restart our franchise now that the patch is out for 360? thanks

Can someone breakdown exactly what this mornings patch actually targets? Thank you so much.

I certainly hope they patch the issue that is causing so many end-of-the-game disconnects on field goals and whatnot before mid-September. Our league will not start up until they confirm they have addressed this and I would hate to have to wait a whole month for this concern to be addressed, especially since it is affecting both the PS3 and X360 versions online.

We need more information on how Patch # 2 is coming. Can any EA Devs shed some light?

# 379 Steven123 @ 08/15/08 12:48 PM
How about releasing a complete game?

Just some suggested fixes and additions for the wii version.

Normal Gameplay:
1. Superstar camera view (need more than 1 option when controlling superstar)
2. I've noticed this on the past few madden games. If you run a 3-4 defense with offside penalties on, before the snap when the outside LBs are doing their little animated pointing thing they usually step offside. Not much of a prob, but if the QB times it correctly its an offside penalty. Just thought the programmers should look into fixing the outside LBs' awareness of the line of scrimmage while doing their pre-snap animations. (does it online aswell)
3. Obviously the franchise progressions and realism could use a little more effort.
4. Ability to skip celebrations for hardcore players (I dont mind the celebration thing)
5. Create a team feature again. Used to love creating a weak team then building it up in Franchise mode.
6. Tackling, big hits, and breaking tackles are slightly overpowered. (they dont cancel each other out surprisingly)
7. When using some motion controlled features for the RBs, the RB will just come to a complete stop for about 2 seconds (happens online aswell)

Online:
1. Online lob passing glitch
2. Don't know if this is glitch or not but I've noticed it while playing online. In the past few games either me or my opponent received an abnormal amount of penalties (facemasks, offsides, false starts, holding, ect.) while the other team received just about non.
3. Ability to edit your profile's team dept charts before entering any games. Obviously not talking about picking up FAs or trading, just altering dept charts to the user's preferences. Maybe just a new feature on the online menu.
4. Ability to uncheck fair play on ranked games so hardcore or risky players can go for it on 4th and inches. (maybe make ability only available to higher ranked players)
5. Ability to create online leagues like Xbox (asking alot)
