Lakers won fine without Andrew in the regular season, but without him in the playoffs there is serious doubt as to whether or not they could win a title.

I look at Boston in the same light except to a lesser extent.

Wwharton continues to state how "overrated overstated" Perkins is, but any bball head knows he was the anchor in the middle, and the combo of he and KG created a two-headed monster defensively, a crazy good defensive dynamic on the interior. They worked perfectly in sync. Good luck having to depend on undersiezed Baby and old Shaq and defenseless Kristic and broken Jermaine...

I still have faith in Boston but to just throw Kendrick aside in the manner Wwharton is doing is pretty crazy.
I've been involved in organized basketball playing, coaching, working at camps, personal training, etc. for about 25 years. I'd hope I qualify as a "bball head". What he is, was and always will be is a role player. A big body not afraid to mix it up for sure... he's not just a stiff out there by any means. But the romantic stories of him being the anchor of a team with 4 all stars around him is a bit much. Garnett is the defensive pulse of that team, and Doc has prepared them to play incredible team defense. Perkins is a good fit for playing next to Garnett and for the overall team philosophy but he's still just a guy. If there wasn't a threat of Shaq getting hurt or gassed, Perkins would be an after thought in the playoffs. I wouldn't go as far as saying anybody can play that spot but this isn't like the talk of Rondo deserving the credit he gets. Perkins' role can be replaced by one or more players... and even if the cohesion with the rest of the team or the toughness isn't fully replaced, the heart of that team will still be just fine.

Even if you want to poo poo the regular season (which doesn't make sense either), they weren't exactly push overs without him in the finals last year with half the big bodies they have to work with without him this year.

Why is all this sounding like the Melo for Joakim Noah discussion that was taking place in the Carmelo Anthony thread right before the season started?

Agreed completely....

You would think Boston was on the brink of collapse and Perk was the glue holding them together. His role was a great one indeed, but I think Boston will be fine.

You also gain another dynamic to Bostons game on offense...a SF\PF, and C who can both step out and knock down Js...which may help Boston through those little slumps they go through when they go into their rotation..

I didn't want to even touch on the "merits" of Kristic b/c I knew I'd get hammered for going against the Perkins grain, but that is something that shouldn't be ignored. Kristic is a solid big man. He can't be Perkins but he does bring things to the table that Perkins couldn't also. I'd rather have a 100% healthy Perkins of course, but not so sure I wouldn't rather have Kristic and Green on that team than a potentialy injury prone and less than 100% Perkins who's threatening to test the FA market if I don't break the bank on him.

Also found it interesting that Nate says Perkins is taking it really hard, crying and reminiscing. If that's genuine then it sounds like Ainge called his bluff. If the team was so important to him then he shouldn't have been throwing around empty threats.

He might have cried but again, he had an extension put before him by management and he rejected it. With the coming CBA, im not sure what he is expecting.

Leon Powe & Troy Murphy are enough for a championship.

Here is to hoping Shaq stays healthy through the playoffs.

Some of you guys sure have a way of taking words and twisting them

What part of "they are still the favorite no question" translates into "you would think Boston was on the brink of collapse and Perk was the glue"?

Stop it.
