Well, ok. The original post doesn't really make too much sense either as these two quotes pretty much mean the same thing:

You were probably going for a off the cuff, they are so irrelevant to me I don't even know their names vibe.

Instead, You just said you don't know something which is fairly common knowledge.

They really don't.

The first is an example of trying to sound cool by claiming the Beatles aren't relevant enough for people to know there names. Which is what I am pretty sure was the posters intent.

The second is what it sounds like...bragging they don't know something fairly well known.

Maybe it would help if I simplify and provide an example...

A person says " I don't need to know how to divide, I just use the calculator on my smartphone". They want to sound like they are hip and technologically savvy but what they are really saying is they are too stupid to do basic math.

Like that, only with the names of The Beatles.

Yeah but since leaving high school 7 years ago I haven't divided without using a calculator. That's not a very good example.

Re: Uncommon Opinions

Personally, I just thought he was trying to communicate exactly what he said, that he wasn't familiar with the Beatles, not whether or not they were "relevant enough for people to know". I see how you connected the dots, though.

I might be making a stretch here but...you can still divide in your head right?

You wouldn't brag that you couldn't divide in your head?

You wouldn't assume that the inability to divide in your head nullified the value of math?

Simple enough for you yet?

I'm terrible at math and I honestly don't care if people know that. Ill admit I sometimes count using my fingers but for my job that's what computers are for.

But you see the difference between being bad at math and bragging about being bad at math, right?
