One sim the numbers will look good - another they will be way off.
I've done tens (if not hundreds) of sims and I kind of disagree with this. I feel like sims come out pretty similar to one another. I was not seeing night-and-day results from one to the next. I do think it depends on what indicators you are looking at though.

If you are comparing Mike Trout's stats in one sim to Mike Trout's stats in another sim, then sure there will be plenty of variability. If you are comparing the league leader in SBs in one sim to another sim, again you'll see variability. However, if you are looking at team or league-wide stats and averaging things, a lot of the noise gets canceled out of the equation (larger samples) and these come in pretty close to the same value in sim after sim. With some of this larger aggregated data, there is not much variability at all.

I may be in the minority here, but I am actually a fan of the current sim engine because it allows for a lot of variability on a local level (player stats) while maintaining realistic, stable baselines on a global level (team and league-wide numbers). I feel like with some minor tweaks to allow for more ridiculously high K/9 numbers like RPs are doing IRL and maybe spitting out an occasional .375 hitter, the engine could be taken further.

Re: Low Batting Averages in sims?

im not sure id say im a fan, nor a disliker.

the stolen base cap really irks me, but i can live with it. i have a much larger problem with progression/regression

Yes, I was comparing one player to himself - but like you said we get similar all around results each time - just different players propelling the numbers each time.

Re: Low Batting Averages in sims?

I also get very low averages when I sim seasons. I just simulated a season with the tigers where miguel cabrera finished batting .250 and ian kinsler .230 and victor martinez .240. None of them had over 20 homeruns and they were healthy the whole season. wtf????

Re: Low Batting Averages in sims?

cpu vs cpu sim sliders should be set too:

cpu starter stamina - 1

cpu reliever stamina - 4

manager hook - 6

injury - 8 or 9 or 10 (most realistic).

all will be well if you do this. no need to over-analyze

this will also DECREASE cpu pitcher CG's and SHO's.

I've tried increasing discipline across the league, I've tried lowering all H/9 and HR/9, I've tried maxing out sliders, anything I do spits out the same issue.

After running more and more tests, I've come to the conclusion that Pitchers are simply striking out wayyyy too many batters. On average, my sims would produce 20-30 200 strikeout pitchers PER YEAR. That's insane. The amount of balls in play that is being reduced by the amount of strikeouts just has to be the reason behind a dip in batting average right?
Maybe try using another roster for your franchise mode, specifically the one made by myself, thyrainmaker99. Its a fair roster if I say so myself. Stats at the end of the seasons are reasonable. Miggy, Trout, and all the big names hitting into the .330s. All of the attributes are pretty good, you can look deeper into those and add or drop some points if you need to. I'm a Cubs fan, so yes I boosted them quite a bit, so expect them to be playing good ball a few years into your simulation. Still there were some guys I missed editing, such as the 3rd Basemen for the Rockies and JD Martinez of the Tigers. They're having strong years this year and I forgot to boost their attributes. Other than that all the attributes should be pretty good. Again the roster from thyrainmaker, I think I made it around the end of July.
