Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs

Hopefully Zambrano's injury isn't serious. Nice to see Lee come through with bases loaded, hitting a grand slam. Bradley is still doing terrible, looks like we should never sign a big named RF again But, if he keeps struggling Hoffpauir should start in right.

Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs

i don't buy the idea of Bradley as a big name. he was a name, but even that is a dubious thing given ESPN's standards.

I think I would tell Z not to leg out anything that wasn't greater than a double.

This happened last year.

Congrats to Lee, I hope for the best for him.

Fontenot.... Coming IN to today's game, he had a hit in 9 of the last ten, 2 multi hit games and 3 homers. And then add today.

Dude must be hitting the weight room. He had pop last year, and seemed to have a good ability to hit with RISP. I really think (hope) he worked out a lot over the offseason; his neck and forearms are much bigger....okay, not "much", but still.

Great job by him stepping in for ARam, and should move Miles right on out at 2b when Ramirez comes back.

Fixed. But had no idea about Jake Fox...holy cow. OPS of 1.477. Has struckout 25% of the time, 21 of 34 hits have been XB.
Dubois seems off to a nice start, as well...but not like that.

Who do you think will take Z's place, short or long term?

I suppose Samardzija might get a start, but more than 5 innings would be unlikely.

Ascanio is having a nice season so far in Iowa, at least according to the numbers...
1.02 Whip, 7/17 bb/k, 3ER in about 22 innings...5 starts, but no wins.

Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs

I don't think Samardzija has a chance if he did they would have left him AAA.

Other than that I have no clue of who will replace Zambrano in the rotation, maybe Angel Guzman.
Their minor league system seems to be depleted of top pitching talent

So...4 game winning streak, game versus reigning NL CY winner, Theriot above his head....

and Lou starts THE BENCH?!?!

Gathright, Scales, Hill (perhaps understandable) all get the start with Marshall--a guy who needs help and to develop confidence--on the hill?

It wouldn't have matter. Timmy shuts them all down. Just ask the Dodgers.

Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs

So I am really glad ARam is back in the lineup...

but why on earth is Miles starting instead of Fontenot at 2b? I know I have asked this before...

Fontenot had really began to come alive at the plate, and perhaps provides the most pop from the left side for the cubs, outside of Hoffpauir.

i hope it is just another "day off" thing....Lou seems to love those...Theriot goes yard in 3 of 4 games and then sits for the 5th.
