Re: Saving The Big XII...

Add into the fact that Texas doesn't like the Championship game, so they will get that too.

Re: Saving The Big XII...

I haven't a clue why everybody hates the Big XII. I mean, I hate Texas with a passion, but they played the game in a way that nobody else saw coming. The PAC-10 wouldn't have given them what they are making for themselves. Now they have an option to make money hand over fist for themselves and damn everybody else.

Even with the subtraction of Nebraska and Colorado, the Big XII still has the big four and lots of action. It's going to make for good football people.

Re: Saving The Big XII...

It's obvious to me, after watching this show, that the powers that be will do anything to keep the current BCS system in place. It appears more and more to me that all of this was posturing on Texas' part to get the $$$ they wanted, plus all their concessions (Longhorn Network).

This TV network deal (ABC/ESPN) is going require fans of the Big 12 to buy the Game Plan package to see their games, as FSN will be out of the picture. Dan Beebe, one of the BCS's loudest mouthpieces, got his way, as did Texas AD Dodds. It really is all about the money and they don't seem to care at all about the greater good of the sport from a fan's perspective. Realignment would have starting pushing CFB towards a playoff, and now that has been averted. This makes me want to root against Texas now.

Do we rename this new league...

"The Southwest Big 10 sponsored by the University of Texas"?

Or perhaps "The Big 2...with 8 other guys"?

Or maybe "Texas and the 9 Dwarfs"?

I think it's more applicable to rename the conferences by the current TV deals they have.

Ex: Pac 10 FSN ?? million per school Conference.

Right now TCU is doing well in recruiting battles because they are top dog in a mediocre league and winning. And get this straight... they are getting the left-overs that don't wan to go to Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Oklahoma. They finished #46 in recruiting last year behind Houston and Baylor.

.
What?

TCU is two touchdowns better than A&M and has been for the past 5 years. They have been better than Tech for the most part too. In a down year, they might even be better than Texas and/or Oklahoma.

It has nothing to do with recruiting battles and every thing to do with Patterson being the head coach and finding diamonds in the rough and putting those guys in a position to win.

Not a chance. With sixteen team conferences, the commissioners would say that the regular season acts as a playoff because these teams have to play the best year in and year out. I wish people would just face the facts and understand that a playoff system just isn't coming anytime in the future. None of this would have changed the BCS.

Re: Saving The Big XII...

I'm glad that there will no longer be a north and south division. I never liked the unbalanced schedules.

I also don't have a problem with Texas (and others) getting bigger pieces of the pie. Seems reasonable being that they are the ones, with their large markets, that most increase the size of the pie.

Texas has a population of 25 million and it is growing faster than any other state in the US. So even if their network doesn't have national appeal, it could still be very successful. If you added up the populations of all the Big 10 states, you'd probably get about 60 million people. So maybe the Texas network makes 40% of what the Big 10 network brings in, but Texas doesn't have to split it with 9 other schools.

The population of all nine states with Big Ten teams is close to 70 million. However, only one state in the Big Ten (Pennsylvania) has even half the population of Texas. I see the Texas Network being a good thing for UT.
