Bingo. I may hate the Longhorns, but they knew exactly what they were doing. They were fishing out the teams that didn't want to be in the conference while securing more money for themselves. It was a very well played strategy.

It's basically Texas and the little nine 8iTcH3s in that conference now. They are letting Texas have whatever they want just so they can stay relevant and included in the Big 12 conference. So Baylor, Texas Tech, Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State doubled their pay-offs with the new Fox Sports television contract? Really? Fox Sports? Wow!!! Yet.... Texas triples their current pay-out and sweetens the pot for Oklahoma and Texas A&M (who used the SEC for leverage). It's great to see the rest of the conference bend over and take it from Texas. So what is the new Big XII going to be known as.... The Texas Ten Conference????

What about Oklahoma?

If Oklahoma was so superior to Texas why was the Pac 10 invite contingent on Texas accepting an invitation to the league. If Oklahoma was even on the same level as Texas why is the Big XII commissioner conceding Texas the largest amount in revenue sharing, allowing them to start their OWN television network (Longhorn Network) and basically allowing them to dictate the future of the whole league. For years Texas has been the thorn of change in the Big XII and it was finally enough that Nebraska left the league for the Big Ten.

Whenever Texas joined the Big Eight that ended the annual rivalry between Nebraska-Oklahoma. All of a sudden it became about the Red River Shoot-Out. It was always about how to make Texas happy. Nebraska should have seen the writing on the wall then... Now Oklahoma and the remaining step-children will suffer the consequences as that "regional" conference moves forward.

Texas is now calling all of the shots in that conference. (Nothing new really)

Re: Saving The Big XII...

The Longhorn Network will be exclusively for the University of Texas athletic programs. Yes I understand that they will garner some attention from their large Texas markets but there is no way that the University of Texas has the national appeal of Notre Dame. Nor do they bring the same level of rivalry match-ups that the Irish do either. There are no:

Notre Dame- USC
Notre Dame- Michigan
Notre Dame- Michigan State
Notre Dame- Purdue
Notre Dame- Boston College
Notre Dame- Army, Navy, Air Force (historical match-ups)

Viewers will be stuck watching:

Texas- Iowa State
Texas- Baylor
Texas- Kansas State
Texas- Missouri (if they sit idle in the Big XII)

FUTURE SCHEDULES:
Texas- Rice
Texas- UTEP
Texas- BYU
Texas- Wyoming

Wow.. I'm really intrigued to watch those games on a national level. Are those games even important in that region of the country?

1) Hmmm.... Oklahoma is superior to Texas in football. I'm sorry I didn't get that memo. I was under the impression that Texas had beaten Oklahoma in FOOTBALL four of the last five years. If Oklahoma was so superior to Texas why was the Pac 10 invite contingent on Texas accepting an invitation to the league. Why is the Big XII commissioner conceding Texas the largest amount in revenue sharing, allowing them to start their OWN television network and basically allowing them to dictate the future of the whole league. For years Texas has been the thorn of change in the Big XII and it was finally enough that Nebraska left the league for the Big Ten.

2) How much we forget in the matter of months. But Nebraska played in the Big XII Championship game in December and lost to Texas 13-12. They finished last season ranked #14 in both the AP and Coaches Poll. They were also represented in the Championship game in 2006. The Cornhuskers are a top ten team this year. They have the long-standing tradition and a storied football program that has won FIVE national championships

Colorado won the 1990 National Championship. They played in the Big XII Conference championship game in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005. Granted they haven't finished in the top 25 poll since 2002 they are still a relevant football program. Dan Hawkins has had a tough time of re-building the program after the scandal that rocked the Buffaloes.

I don't understand how the conference can get better by adding TCU or Utah... or really anyone else from C-USA, Mountain West or WAC. First, T. Boone Pickens is very vocal spokesperson that pumps a lot of money into the Oklahoma State program and he said that adding TCU would be one of the dumbest things ever. His reasoning is that they are in a 35,000-seat stadium that they can't even fill-up to watch games. "What do they bring to you?"

http://www.statesman.com/news/...-12-747411.html

(Before you jump down my throat... I want to clarify that TCU plays in a stadium that seats 44,008)

I understand that TCU would add some more interest for the Big XII but Texas already owns the state of Texas. They OWN the Ft. Worth market. What does adding TCU, SMU, Rice, Houston or UTEP add to the conference. It would be of great financial benefit for TCU to join the Big XII because of the revenue package... but on the flip-side if they are getting their brains beat in by Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas A&M weekly.... well they basically just become Baylor. Right now TCU is doing well in recruiting battles because they are top dog in a mediocre league and winning. And get this straight... they are getting the left-overs that don't wan to go to Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Oklahoma. They finished #46 in recruiting last year behind Houston and Baylor.

Give me a break... TCU finished #6 in the country and played in a BCS game and the University of "freaking" Houston signed two four star recruits just like TCU. I understand that TCU has some proud football tradition and won two National Championships in 1935 and 1938... but Slingin' Sammy Baugh isn't handing off to LaDainian Tomlinson.

Utah does add another team that has some recent success. They won the 2005 Fiesta Bowl defeating Pittsburgh while Urban Meyer was coaching... a Pitt team that went 8-4 under Walt Harris. A terrible Pitt team. (Interesting note is that Joe Flacco was on the Pitt roster for the Fiesta Bowl as the 3rd QB.) Utah shocked a disinterested Alabama team in the 2009 Sugar Bowl for another BCS victory.

Does adding Utah and TCU add anything to the tv markets? Will revenue increase by adding the Salt Lake City, Utah market? Does adding a 45,000-seat Eccles Stadium interest anyone. Or travelling all the way to Utah to beat the Utes? I guess the fans will love travelling 1,300 miles from Austin to Salt Lake City to watch Texas beat down Utah.

Maybe the Big XII can add North Texas. I heard that they dominated the Sun Belt conference for a few years. Dominating a mid-major conference and then signing with a BCS conference will generate millions of national viewers for a TV network exclusively for the University of Texas.

Re: Saving The Big XII...

So now that the Big 12 isn't the Big 12, and we've seen how Texas can pretty much dictate what and who goes where...

Do we rename this new league...

"The Southwest Big 10 sponsored by the University of Texas"?

Or perhaps "The Big 2...with 8 other guys"?

Or maybe "Texas and the 9 Dwarfs"?

No... Way... In... Hell

North Texas is a wonderful university (had money not have been an obstacle, I would have gone there), but there is no way that they are moving from the Sun Belt to the Big XII. They had a good team for a while, but the Todd Dodge problem is becoming more and more of a headache, and they aren't even close to teams like Troy and Middle Tennessee State.

Re: Saving The Big XII...

I'm disgusted that the Big 12 lite has survived and will be even more so if the strong rumors about moving the OU-Texas game to December @ Jerryworld come true.
