Because the Big East is a conference included in the current BCS structure that gets an auto-bid while the Mountain West does not.

That means, as the Mountain West does not receive the same amount of cash as the auto-bid conferences, they get half what the supposed big six do. A few million dollars more spread to those teams, over enough of a time, might help galvanize them.

Which, if people want to take a Utah more seriously, them being from an autobid conference would probably help, as it would be considered more important for them to go undefeated than some other teams slogging their way through one or two loss seasons.

The Big East deserves their BCS bid far more than the ACC or the recent Big 10.

How about nobody (Conference) gets a bid. Why does any conference deserve automatic bids? If they are so good and competitive why do they have to be automatic. Wow! could part of one problem be solved that easy???

The BCS exists because the Rose Bowl (which Jim Delany negotiates for) allows it to exist. As long as the Rose Bowl remains a "higher" entity within the BCS structure...the rules will always include an automatic bid...at least for the Big Ten and Pac Ten.
