Utah: National champions: hands down.
Not defending BYU by any means, but getting to play Wyoming and San Diego State and Weber State or whoever isn't like running the gauntlet in the SEC, Big 12, or Pac 10.

You have to not only win your tough games, but score style points. They did against Alabama, but TCU manhandled them for 59 minutes, then screwed the pooch in the final minute. (451 yards to 275).

Still, undefeated is undefeated and it's not Utah's fault that Michigan stunck so bad. The Utes didn't know that would be the case when they scheduled them, so I give them credit.

So which team in your mind should be National Champions?

Yeah, there's nothing like the gauntlet Florida had to go through:

Hawaii
Miami
at Tennessee
Mississippi
at Arkansas
LSU
Kentucky
Georgia
at Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Citadel
at Florida State

I usually agree with the whole "gauntlet" thing, but not this year. You'll probably say, oh FSU was a bowl team! Kentucky was a bowl team! Yeah, anyone that plays in those conferences are a bowl team, practically. Not impressed.

And the argument of "TCU dominated Utah"...ok, Utah won. Texas lost. Florida lost. Oklahoma lost. What's your point? Utah gets dinged for being "dominated", yet winning, but the other teams get a pass for LOSING?

Oh, and in case you forgot, Wyoming won at Tennessee.

Given the current system, probably no one. I think Florida, OU, and USC have the best arguments, depending on who wins Thursday night, but I base that on who each lost to and when, which of course is stupid.

And I'm not even a playoff system proponent. LOL

I don't understand how anyone could not be a playoff proponent at this point. The BCS system is a bad joke.

Whoever wins the BCS title game will still be a mythical champion in my mind. Right now I think that USC, Utah, and Texas could all make legitimate claims for the title along with whoever wins between OU and Florida. There's a reason why every other major sport in the world has a playoff system to determine a champion.

The people that vote are morons.

In 2006, a voter dropped OU because he "thought" he over heard someone say that OU lost. He didn't see the game, see the score, or anything. I bet stuff like that happens all of the time.

You can look at how some of the people vote. It's obvious they don't watch all of the games. I would bet that most of the posters here on OS watch more football than the actual voters do.

But they aren't and won't be.

You can't do that. If 1984 or 2007 were the standard, some years would have 8 national championships. On the other hand, with 1994 Penn St and 2004 Auburn, you could say that 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2008 had no national champions by that logic.

Utah won't be the national champions. Whether they deserve it is up for debate, but their championship status will not be. At best, they'll end #4.

Which is why I said earlier in the season, as far as I'm concerned, there's never been a national champion in football.
True, but realistically if you are a Top 10 team the voters should be watching your games. All of the bowls are meaningless anyway and with the amount of scrutiny the BCS is getting you'd think that the voters would at least want to watch the Top 10 teams to get the best national champion. Obviously though, it hasn't been the case.
