Building a Better NCAA Football 12
NCAA Football 11 gave thousands of eager fans the first quality HD college football experience during this generation of consoles. But now with January already upon us, and NCAA 12 deep into development, it is only a matter of time until the NCAA Football 12 details start emerging. January is also the month that I begin my coverage of the newest NCAA game.

This first article will focus on some of the things NCAA 11 did extremely well, as well as the areas that still need improvement in order to push the game to the next level.

It's All in the Details

NCAA 11 did a serviceable job of finally returning in-game college atmosphere to NCAA 06 levels. NCAA 12 needs to push the envelope in terms of presentation and small in-game details. I'm talking about adding the few remaining details that were present in the last generation of NCAA games -- the return of bowl patches, eye black, interactive goal pylons, pregame predictions, coach cut scenes and dreads -- while adding in a College Gameday feature, complete with highlights in between quarters like in NBA 2K11.

On top of these additions, NCAA 12 needs updated stat banners and ESPN overlays while within a game. ESPN and ABC have become the name in college football, and this is the year that the NCAA franchise needs to fully implement the presentation we see on the tube any given Saturday. If the now-defunct NCAA Basketball franchise was able to do this, there are no excuses for the growing NCAA Football franchise to leave out such a critical aspect of presentation.

Remember the Heisman Winner?

If there is one issue with NCAA 11 that has unified the OS forums, it undoubtedly has to be the lack of scrambling logic by CPU quarterbacks. This issue highlights one of NCAA 11's biggest weaknesses: the lack of player profiles. While appearing on a recent version of the OS Radio Show with yours truly and Chris Sanner, NCAA developer Ben Haumiller mentioned that the NCAA licensing prohibited the team from integrating actual player profiles into the game (see: Auburn QB #2).

While this is completely understandable, especially because of the pending lawsuits from former college athletes, it still does not excuse the fact that CPU players just do not seem to play to their strengths in NCAA 11. If I am facing off against a team with a 6-foot-2, 250-pound featured back, I expect to get pounded by this team all day long. The same goes if I am facing off against a team with a dual-threat QB who has a 98 speed rating. I should be dreading defending such a player the same way teams that faced Auburn and Michigan feared their respective quarterbacks.

Good luck planning for QB #12.

NCAA 11 did a marvelous job when it came to replicating team-specific offensive sets, but the problem was that when facing the CPU, the CPU-controlled teams never seemed quite aware of what their individual strengths were. This is not to say that playing NCAA 11 against the CPU did not provide a suitable challenge, it's just that on offense the AI did not run a system as efficiently and realistically as teams do in real life. The issue was made even worse when playing CPU teams that ran the spread or shotgun-based offenses -- getting the CPU to establish an effective run game was downright impossible sans major slider tweaks.

For NCAA 12 I would like to see an emphasis on the offenses run by the CPU, especially with teams that run the spread and have dual-threat quarterbacks. For too long has defense in the NCAA series taken a backseat to offense. This is the year where the CPU needs to keep defensive gurus on their toes. How nice would it be to finally go into a week in Dynasty mode, know you are facing the next Michael Vick, and actually have to make personnel adjustments both pregame and in-game to give your school a chance at victory?

One of the biggest complaints I hear from people on a yearly basis regarding playing defense in football games is that the process is just plain boring. But if you actually had to engage in a defensive chess match against the CPU, would that be reason enough to stop using the Super Sim feature while on the defensive side of the ball? The incentive and feeling of accomplishment gained by devising a top-tier defensive game plan against an explosive offense would be second to none in my opinion.

Tune in the Fun

Tuning updates in NCAA 11 sounded like a can't-miss idea when they were announced shortly after the game was released -- they work really well in the NHL series, after all. Unfortunately, every time one of these tuners was implemented, another aspect of the game completely unrelated to a tuned issue began to suffer. Add this to the fact that some of the tuners were dependent on a game patch being installed (the dirty jersey/dynasty progression patch), and you have a recipe for disaster, especially when users are not given a way to switch back to previous tuning updates without deleting a core gameplay improvement. Simply put, NCAA 12 needs to learn a lesson from EA's own NHL series and rework the way patches and tuning sets are implemented.

Yes, football can learn from hockey.

My fondest memories of NCAA 11 occurred before the first tuner set was released. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that the first tuner set broke the game, nerfing the CPU running game, adding a devastating pump-fake glitch, and seemingly lowering some of the game's overall blocking logic. Others were pleased with the additions in each successive tuner set, and more power to them. The point is that if tuners are going to be the new standard of updating NCAA Football, then there has to be some flexibility to allow users to pick and choose the tuner set that best suits their game style.

Time to Restart the Program

Yes, Dynasty mode has been good times during the last 10-plus years, but it is now officially time for a change. Before NCAA 11 was released last year, EA sent out a survey asking gamers what new features they would like to see implemented into the series. One of the options given was called Athletic Director Mode, which included the ability to build your own stadium. A completely new approach to Dynasty mode is exactly what NCAA's deepest feature needs right now.

This menu is just not as exciting as it used to be.

I like the idea of AD mode, but I feel that a comprehensive Coach mode would be better for the long-term health of the franchise. Imagine building your coach from scratch and then taking a job from a pool of lower-tiered schools. After each game you would have to answer questions from the press, which would allow you to establish your personality type. This personality would begin to shape how you are viewed by potential recruits, and by your AD. Players could have academic troubles -- or get free tattoos -- and the press would grill you on these issues as well.

You would also be given create-a-play tools so you could develop your own offensive schemes and gadget plays. Depending on your coaching strategy and personality type, you would develop in-game dynamic rivalries with other coaches and programs. Add in a coaching carousel and some all-time challenges, like winning more games than Joe Pa, and you have got a surefire winner in my eyes.

Avoid the Madden 11 Effect

Madden 10 was one of the biggest leaps in terms of gameplay and features when compared to Madden 09. So when the masses began realizing that Madden 11 was not the year-to-year lap that Madden 10 was, people were understandably disappointed. NCAA 12 has to avoid falling into this same trap, and the team must continue to push the franchise forward in big ways. With an ever-changing sports gaming climate, consumers being able to see a quantitative year-to-year improvement is critical to increased sales, especially for a franchise that does not carry the NFL license.

In addition, the gameplay in many of today's sports games, NCAA included, does not match up with the gameplay found in titles from the previous generation. It's becoming extremely difficult for me to believe that the presentation and gameplay we are experiencing now are still not on par with what we were playing over five years ago. No more excuses, it's time for the HD generation of sports titles to finally surpass the games of yesteryear.

NCAA 12 will be released in just seven months, and for dedicated fans of the series, excitement levels are about to peak. As always, Operation Sports will be bringing you any and all NCAA Football 12 news as it breaks, so be sure to check back in the coming weeks.

What are your hopes for NCAA Football 12 at this point? Feel free to add your wish lists below.

1. I'm putting Dreads as equipment. DREADS, DREADS, DREADS...nuff said
2. More Revo Speeds. There are atleast 10 revo speed facemasks and only 2

3. Custom Sliders for socks, arm sleeves, arm bands, knee bands, etc. Instead

his socks. Most College Players socks are atleast halfway up on their leg.
4. Double Socks. Everyone is wearing double socks...EVERYONE. Give us an

1. Put Road To Glory on a separate disk
2. Play your whole senior season, get scholly offers in the mail. Move up in
ESPNU Top 150 Choose between The Under Armour or the US Army All

Oregon, but only can choose from 2 uniforms. Come on!
6. Senior Bowls
7. Don't Know if this could be included on Madden 12 but have the Combine

well, thats all i can think about for now. This game has the potential to be the greatest video game ever made.
I really like your dynasty ideas. The only thing I'd argue is that, do schools get to pick what station they are on? Obviously Notre Dame and NBC have that "buddy/buddy" thing going.. But I remember NCAA Basketball 10 had it so the big games during the week were brought to you on ESPN, but the weekend games were brought to you on CBS. Maybe they could do something like that. I do agree, though, that you should get to choose what time your games are. Maybe if they could have time zones... So that 6 o'clock in West Lafayette, Indiana would look like 3 in Eugene, Oregon (only reason I'm calling out Oregon is the fact that I stayed up from 9:15 to 12:15 watching Purdue lose 38-36 in Oregon a few years back), which brings me to my next point, show highlights of games around the nation (like NFL 2K5 did), but make sure if it's nighttime where YOUR game is, it ISN'T nighttime where it shouldn't be (basically like I stated above)

i agree with everyone who is talking about using ESPN to its full potential, why can't we have the SEC on CBS, or the "red river rivalry" or "the game" (those are texas vs. oklahoma and ohio state vs. michigan respetivly for those of you who don't know college football) on ABC, even having gameday go to the game of the week would be sweet. why is it that madden can have a pre-game, half-time, and post-game show and ncaa can't. there is so much potential to this game, ea just has to utalize it

agreed 100% you have full rights, USE THEM. Otherwise, you're a terrible ballhog... you hold onto the ball, but you don't do anything productive. Stop slacking, let's get something going. We need the presentation of NCAA Basketball 10, the gameplay of NCAA Football 06, the physics of NHL 11, and god knows what else. I think people are too afraid though, I think NCAA 12 will make SOME improvements, but not everything we want.

I'd Love to see CREATE-A-PLAYBOOK
useable during all modes including online
could even call it coach " " like madden did with da audible edits

You make some valid points, and then this!

As far as I'm concerned this should be the last feature ever included in the game. This is about as important to me as a slider for grass length in a custom stadium.

Maybe some disagree, but with football being the game of chess that it is there is SO much more you can do with the CPU AI before adding rubbish like that.

This is gonna sound crazy, but the most important thing to me is feeling like I am watching a game on tv. So I would go as far to say that I would be okay with having the option of watching a four or five second commercial or simulation of a fake commercial in between kickoffs or series. Now on realisticness; we definitely need a halftime and postgame show. Also shots of players in the locker room before and after the game. The gameplay is great, and the engineers have worked hard and created an awesome game. But they need to make it like an Espn presentation.

(what do you think about the commercials idea? Too far?)

Presentation
In-depth Commentary
- Theirs tons of work that could be done to improve the commentary. Have the color anaylsis come up with little facts throw out the game. Talk about plays before. Some announcers on Saturday always refer back to that goaline stand in the first half or the timeout in the 3rd quarter that left them with 1 remaining.
Stat banners
- I love seeing that mug of my 240 lbs RB on the bottom of the screen showing his stats while im feeding him the ball down the field.
Crowd Noise
- This is what college football is all about. Have you ever been to South Bend? Happy Valley? Miles of tailgaters that are there to scream there face off for there team. Home Field Sound meter, Fans jumping, student section chanting. This makes college football so popular and could set this game apart from NHL or Madden because of the fan base. Students look forward to that Mich OSU game every year. If the away team is up by 28 here some boos from the crowd as well. You cant compare the atmosphere of college football than anything.
Overall Presentation off the field has been rather weak. Cheerleaders and bands arent present. How do you hide Notre Dames 100+ person band on the sideline of each game?
Gameplay
Weight matters
- I play college football in the trenches and I cant stress enough how much you weigh matters. If my pulling guard hits a strong safety on a power that safety is going to go flying. Take some notes from NHL momentum system. If the running back hits off tackle right and the de stale mated my RT, He should fall to his knees when my RB runs in the back of him. If a DE is bull rush my RT he should start stubbling backward, maybe fall over it the DE has a rush power, He could fall back into the QB.
Player Movement
- Pass rushers leaning when rushing upfield. When pass rushing you hold LT and then that enables you to use the RS and LS to swim or rip or spin move IF you hit A it bull rushes. B spins. Y jumps to put your hands up. It would make pass rushing a mini game inside the actual game. Of Defense.
- RB leaning while running. If you hold Truck stick too long he could fall over or slip.
- Once a defender makes contact you could mash a button (tap repeatedly) to hold on untill another defender catchs up. if you didnt hit a ball carrier head on. Also use this for diving tackles or making plays from the backside. The ball carrier would also mash to break out of the tackle. (its a mini game within a game). ALSO SAME THING FOR STRIPPING THE BALL IF A BALL CARRIER IS HELD UP LIKE THIS THE NEXT GUY COULD COME IN FOR A STRIP. If you know how football is played and play the sport like I do this is big parts of each play that are missing in this game.
- Jump ball improvement. When a team is in the redzone the jump ball is a great play. Or if your 35 yards out on 2nd and 2. When a ball is in the air toward the corner of the endzone you should be able to jostle for position against the defender and jump for the ball.
Awareness
There has been great improvement in OL DL play but im a big believer that the games are won in the trenches and blocking schemes and defensive fronts should be on the top of the list to improve
Passing game in NCAA 11 was very dominate it wasnt very hard to run a slant and get a first down
Defenders need to be aware and redirect better.
SPECIAL TEAMS
- 100% needs to be improved. I believe this is a forgotten area of the game of football but field position matters and Kickers and punters matter
- As I said before make it a mini game inside a game. An abiity to bust through the line a block a kick must be address. Before each kick or punt you can use the PASS RUSH mode by holding LT and making a move past a blocker to break through and block a kick.
DEPTH CHART
- Special Teams Depth Chart
- Be able to set Groups of Backfields
 - Most teams use different people in different situations i.e. Wildcat
CREATE A PLAYBOOK
Ok you gave us the different styles of playbooks now give us our freedom to make our own.
- Pick 15 out of Every formation possible. I love my formations I use 5 Aces 3 Ifrom 1 weak 1 strong 5 shotgun. I believe this was in NCAA 2006?
- Create a Play
Offense
Defense
Special teams
DYNASTY - BOTH ONLINE AND OFFLINE
Recruiting
Coaches have ratings.
Better you do more Stars you get then you have categories where you can choose what you want to improve. Categories could include: recruiting, game planning, training, etc
Hire Coordinators which can get better like madden used to have. This helps you improve positions. Coordinators have ratings like: training, style, discipline, recruiting.
Once you have your staff you average out each rating for your staff and then that makes up how well you train players, discipline, and recruit.
Training
Were building a team but have no way to train other then game day. WE TALKING BOUT PRACTICE!
Mini camps from Madden 05 where has this been it needs back now?
August Camp you have these mini games to improve 7 or 8 players on your team
Spring Ball could have a 3 or 4 defensive and offensive practices as a unit. such as Offensive Starters going against your 3rd team defense. Then a spring game starters vs starts for first quarter then the backups get time and can improve drastically.
Position Changes Year Round
Custom schedules with custom times.
DEAN MODE. Its all about the School or University should I say. RESEARCH MVP BASEBALL 2004 DYNASTY SAME IDEA AS AD MODE
- Be able to upgrade western kentucky if I win 8 NC in a row.
Have accomplishments that give your school a currency of some type (money, or just slider points) then you can buy improvements for your school
Buy new education buildings, improve teaching staff to improve academics and discipline
Hire staff to improve Coach Prestige, Coach style, Coach stability
Buy new practice fields, weights, lifting programs to improve training, facilities, campus life
Create a new stadium.
Upgrade everything from seats to pressbox to lights
Different Shapes of stadiums have different crowd factors Dome, Horsehoe, colloseum.
Designate Sections for students
Ticket prices, alumni, bowl games, other accomplishments or promotions could give you currency as well
IT WOULD BE AN ADVANCED DYNASTY MODE!
PLAYER DETAIL
Long hair out of helmet. Not only dreads but I.E. Clay mathews troy polamalu its trend in football today.
I believe this years custom player appearence wise was great lots of options of course there could always be more but im not complaining. Only a couple requests
Mirror Visors
Not so bulky Ankle tape
Im definitely on the wagon for ripped jerseys, at least untucked after a few plays.
Realistic Helmets getting popped off it happens 2-3 times a game

All I play really is offline dynasty. There are ton of things I want for that, but I would be happy with just some decent CPU logic with recruiting. I have seen teams with up to 12 QB's on the roster only a couple of seasons in, which means they are lacking players elsewhere.

I have also seen schools that run spread and options with not a single QB mobile QB (not that it really mattered since there is no rushing QB logic) It goes down the line, the CPU simply does not recruit players that fit there system.

For the most part, NCAA 12 needs:

More in depth Dynasty, Online Dynasty and Road to Glory modes

Spectator Mode

Balanced gameplay that caters towards BOTH offense and defense

Consecutive hit tackles

More animations to maybe offset the prevalent motion shifts

Custom Playbooks

No real commercials, but I would be more than happy to see them use a "fade to black" thing to simulate a commercial break like in MLB 2k. Do it just like it is in real life. Quarter Changes, TV timeouts, change of possessions, etc.

I can see adding something like that to Madden, because the NFL is essentially a made for tv sport.

CFB, otoh, is all about being at the game. The bands, cheerleaders and raucous student sections all combine to make seeing a cfb game live an experience unlike anything else in sports. That is what the NCAA dev team should be aiming for with it's presentation, imo. EA should be trying to duplicate as much as possible the experience of being in South Bend on game day (or Lincoln, or Ann Arbor, or Tallahassee, etc., etc.).

# 178 BenGerman @ 03/29/11 02:56 PM
I know its beating a dead horse, but if you fix gameplay, you fix the game. Great gameplay can go a long ways in fixing Dynasty as well. Heres why:

Line Play Needs to Matter

What it Does: Fixing line play would breath fresh air right into recruiting. This would include making size matter. Some teams play with fast and agile line play (SEC, Big East), others play with much slower, but powerful line play (Big Ten). If I wanted to use the spread with a team, I'd most likely recruit more agile O-Linemen. Offensive Line play was a ton better last year, but ratings never seemed to matter. If they did, it was hardly noticeable.

Scrambling QB's

What it Does: Besides the obvious (fixing in game play), this would add serious depth to Dynasty mode. Having to finally gameplan for a team with a scrambling QB would add a ton of realism to the game. These guys should be just as tough, if not tougher, than Pocket Passers to defend. Once again, this adds a whole new door for recruiting.

Ratings NEED to Matter

What it Does: It changes the style of play that you use on both the Defensive side of the ball, and the Offensive side of the ball. It changes who you recruit, it changes how you gameplan. Now this needs to be something that is done correctly. For instance, if I were to have a WR with incredible hands, and vertical, the CPU needs to have an idea of who I am going to on 3rd and goal. But I'll get more into this in a second.

Improved CPU Logic

What it Does: Not only will we be able to gameplan against the CPU, but the CPU should be able to gameplan for us. Now I'm not asking for some extensive system the CPU would use, I'm just asking for them to be moderately logical. If its 3rd and 10, early in the second quarter, I don't want the CPU to call Hail Mary every time. If I have the ball, early in the game on a 3rd down, the CPU should NEVER call and all out blitz. NEVER. If I am hammering the CPU with my run game, they should stack the box. If the CPU is dominating me with the pass game, it should continue to pass. If the CPU is a run oriented squad (say Alabama last year) they should never have a game where their QB throws it 40 times in a game. If I have a QB who doesn't handle pressure well and isn't very good on his feet, what should the CPU do? They should blitz. There are so many situations where I will be having a competitive game, and the CPU will blow it by calling a Hail Mary, or by calling an all out blitz late in the game. Its funny for a little while, but then it just gets frustrating.

Special Teams

What it Does: I simply write special teams because I think just adding Special Teams would make a huge difference in next years game. Special Teams has literally been non-exsistant for as long as I can remember. No punt blocks, unrealistic kick returns, FG's will often be attempted from 60 yards out. Fix this, as it is 1/3 of the game after all.

I know this is a long read, but the fixes for these gameplay issues would make the game so much more immersive. Gameplay first, because gameplay goes a long way with fixing other things too. This is coming from someone who has been the biggest advocate for a coaching carousel ever since CH 2k8 came out. You can do it EA.

Better sidelines (Interactive)
First, keep the sideline at either broadcast/game play view. Zoom in shots should be limited to head coach or coaches/player(s) interaction ex. during timeouts, trainers on the field, etc. One thing MLB The Show seems to do well is it shows a lot of little things throughout the stadium/game in game play camera angles without drawing attention to it, ex. you can see relief pitchers warming up in the outfield from home plate without the need to show a zoomed in view of the guys warming up).

****** Level 1 - Immediate Sidelines (closest to the field) should consist of Coaches (Head & Several Assistants) 40+players, several trainer staff personal watching game while standing, some moving around interacting with one another and reacting to the action on the field. Chain-gang present and has the ability to come onto the field to measure for too close to call first downs.

****** Level 2 – Directly behind Level 1 are the kickers & punters practicing kicks into nets continuously throughout the game (not just the zoomed in candid shot we get). Secondly, the bench area w/players (two deep) sitting interacting w/the O or D Coordinator. Perhaps at the end of a series, is where the pop up menu that appears at timeouts asking you to pick what areas of the offense to coach up (ex. line blocking/blitz pick-up, receivers route running, etc.)

****** During injuries on the field, have several trainers out there with the player (in school colors preferably). Get the initial prognosis at that point (menu to move to sideline if not serious or call for the cart if head injury suspected). If determined to not be serious, show the player on the training table being looked at. Then the second decision whether to sit him or play him menu can pop up.

****** Also, in Dynasty mode while recruiting, select games for recruits to attend, have additional people on the sidelines representing the recruits. Select one of your home games as Homecoming, again with packed sidelines representing player alumni, recruits, etc.

On the field – Game play
First of all fix both huddles:
Offense – with backs to the Line of Scrimmage, QB facing forward, backs/receivers in front with OL behind.

------------ Line of scrimmage
XXXXX OL
XXXXX Backs & Receivers
X QB

Defense, MLB calling the play, back to the Line of scrimmage with DL in front and LBs and DBs behind.

XXXX DBs
XXXXXX LBs & DL
X MLB
----------- Line of scrimmage

1. Gamer selects play, alignment (play going left or right) and something new snap count - Hut 1(A), 2(X), 3(B), or 4(Y). This could make for realistic false start or DL encroachment. Upon selecting the play, let’s hear them “break” the huddle.

2. As the offense lines up, QB can go through pre-snap reads (Offensive alignment and calling to the OL the position of the MLB/Defensive alignment) here, one of your two allowable player motions can occur. That’s right, second big change. Allow for multiple player motion. One player motions & gets set then, you have the option to motion a second player. This would allow for either additional blockers at the point of attack, misdirection to fool the defense or getting a free release for a receiver if the defense is in man to man.

3. At which point, QB cadence starts (ex. Red 19, Red 19), here you could press (X) to get the audible menu or start hut cadence (RB). Big change, (RB) determines the snap of the ball, not (A). When you hit the last pre-selected hut cadence (RB), your line will either fire off the ball (run play) of drop back forming the pocket (pass play). Depending on how loud the environment is for a road game (Toughest Stadiums), could determine if all your linemen reacts at the same time. This could make for some very nice offensive tackle/defensive end play on the edges. Thus giving the advantage to the DE for a change potentially allowing for pressure to the QB on pass plays from the outside, not just the middle of the line.
On the field – Game play (Bolded new suggestions) – cont.

Offensive Line Play -Based on your style of offense have different line splits (Power Football – closer like say Ohio State and Spread Attack – wider like say Missouri

Have some plays designed where guards pull straight down the line to kick out block a DE or perhaps pull and cut up into a gap in the line to pick off a MLB at the 2nd level.

At the snap of the ball for a pass play, stop having the OL drift back so much in forming their pocket. The center, guards really should pop up at the snap and either immediately engage the defender in front of them or double team immediately to their left or right. The tackles should really be the only linemen to retreat back at an angle to cut off the rush of the DE opposite them, thus forming the pocket. Only one specific Play Action plays should OL be moving across the formation to block defenders that are otherwise not picked up. Spacing this action out across the line (not packed in tightly as it is now) would create gaps for either Blitzing LB or stunting DL to have a better chance to beat the block or come through clean. Conversely, it would also open up areas for the QB to either step up into said pocket or take off and scramble through the line for yardage.

Some additional blocking animations would be nice.
1. Realistic pancake blocks where the OL takes a defender to the ground, landing on top of them, taking both players out of the play.
2. Running back either shoulder/chipping a defender before releasing to catch a screen
3. Running back going low to take a defender out below the waste and possibly flipping the defender. On the same token, if the running back tries to do that and has a poor blocking rating, the defender could just swat him out of the way or run him over on their way to the QB.
4. How cool would it be to see some random holding animations? Ex. OL that’s beat on the play pulling a defender down. OL hands to the face while blocking. Chop block, one OL cutting a defender below the waste while in a double team animation.

I’ve heard it stated on the community boards in the past and I think it’s time to implement this needed option as well: Unique/Individualized back and receiver types and running styles.
1. Noel Devine/LaMichael James – scat back, speedy, elusive but easy to bring down, home run threat every time they touch the ball.
2. DeMarco Murray – midsized back, athletic, has speed but, not quite as elusive as the smaller back. Potential for big plays.
3. Mark Ingram/John Clay – big back, athletically quick, won’t go down easily especially if they can get through the line of scrimmage to the 2nd level of the defense.
4. Each back type has a unique running style based on height, weight, speed and elusiveness.
The same can be said for receiver however, the styles could be small, average and tall, with the same unique running styles as the backs.
Let’s also base speed on how its actual assessed - 40 times (4.39) rather 99 rating.

Defensive Game play Adjustments
During pre-snap, give the defense time to make adjustments, especially when playing the CPU. Play selection time is limited and you’re given what seems like even less than that to coverage audible or hot route a specific defender. Most teams utilize the full play clock perhaps that goes along with their Offensive Style. If your opponent’s style is more up tempo, ex. Oregon or Oklahoma, that would negate that option. If your opponent is more deliberate like Wisconsin, then more of the play clock would be run down. It just has seemed for some time now that the CPU is forever in up tempo and I’m in mid adjustment when they snap the ball. Another option is to have while playing the CPU is to have them audible from time to time based on your defensive alignment/coverage or if you’re showing blitz.

There are only a few subtle changes that I would recommend on the Audible tabs for the defense.
Coverage:
• When selecting SHOW BLITZ, be able to choose which DB is showing, window to select (left/right CB, SS, or FS).
• When selecting PRESS, be able to chose head up, shade inside or outside.

Linebackers:
• Give an option to SHOW BLITZ, seeing how it seems that LB show this more often than the secondary does.

Defensive Line:
• Give an option to STUNT left or right.
• When choosing OUTSIDE CONTAIN RUSH, have the DE contain a little less drastically than they do currently (The idea is to contain against the scramble to the outside not make a dash for the sidelines).

Extra animations for defensive backs
pushing a receiver and running back out of bounds if along the sideline
tackle animation where the DB goes low to take out a back or receiver below the waste, more like rolling a should into the thigh or knee of the offensive player.
