NBA 2K11 at E3: The Death of Isomotion

In a closed-door session, we got our first look at NBA2K11 earlier today at E3. Walking Chase Becotte and myself through the very brief demo was NBA2K11 producer, Eric Boenisch. The major announcement is the removal of Isomotion controls. Although a becoming staple in the series and a well-received feature, the NBA2K11 team felt Isomotion was too limited. However, there’s no word just yet on what new dribbling scheme will take its place in NBA2K11.

We also got a look at the game in action with a matchup of the NBA finalists. The first thing that stood out was the revamped presentation as you now see players getting off their team buses pre-game all decked out in suits. We didn’t get to see the Heat so no word on whether Dwyane Wade will be sporting his bow-tie look. As Eric described, a main goal of this year’s game will be to polish the overall look and feel for NBA2K11. Although still in production, player models look more unique, legs don’t seem as large as before and arm length is more appropriate to the player’s body size. I do think heads looked slightly bigger though. As for gameplay, the little of it we saw showed off new animations. One I particularly liked was Kevin Garnett almost going out-of-bounds while trying to receive a tough Rondo pass.

Like the control-scheme, we were also told online play will see a big overhaul in NBA2K11. Eric couldn’t get into further details, but he assured us there’s a lot of good things in store for online players in NBA2K11.

That’s it for now, do you think it was time for to lay Isomotion to rest? And what sort of dribbling mechanism will be introduced to the series to NBA2K11?

i have never and will never use the shot stick, whether by default or custom option they better have button shooting...

as for isomotion, if they ever fixed the sliding i think it would have worked great.......

carnalnirvana if there was ever a year to try to use it I'm betting this is it. I would give it a shot before totally dismissing it.

I agree, both need to stay. And 2K won't remove the button since they know there are people who'll NEVER get used to the shot stick (for whatever reason, doesn't really matter). So, if they remove the button they'll lose customers. Really simple.

Why? This isnt Fight Night where they are asking you to do a Ha-Dou-Ken for a simple straight right. With the shot stick all you do is pull back and let go. My six year old could do that with his eyes closed. Really I wouldnt have an issue I just wish that people who use different control schemes played in a different rank pool online.

I agree with this.

I'd really like to know if the auto-post-up is still in the game. Have they say anything about it yet?

YOU THINK THE BUTTON somehow gives us an advantage. i would have thought we were at a disadvantage especially on layups and in the post.

if you choose to use a so called " high skill" controll layout dont complain.....especially since a 6yr old can do it.

anyway, i have tried to use it, seemed gimmicky and i am an old school baller

Read it again - by default.

I'm not as selfish to request a game to get rid of an option that mostly everyone else uses.

I don't need to use common sense when you can't be bothered to read.

LMAO,usually people just avoid reading that before post the comment.
Seriously your size for "default" is bigger than the actual one..

I really wouldn't have a problem with them removing turbo all toghether and using the right trigger for taking shots and using the stick for dribbling ala Live.

Right trigger shooting could be very rewarding almost like shooting in COD or Gears. Short Bursts lol

I like isomotion in theory. I sometimes had a hard time getting ballhandlers to do what I wanted though. But keeping whatever dibbling system on the left stick seems to make more sense since you move with the left stick. Grabbing the trigger and using the left stick felt like a natural extension to me.

And don't touch the shot stick, except to improve it of course.

And please, please get rid of the skating. THAT is the worst part of the game IMO. Realistic foot/court interaction would go a long way towards looking realistic.

Better player interaction would be 2nd on my list.

And we need the post up button back. Triggering the post up has been a pain in 2K10.

It took a couple of generations, but eventually companies weaned everyone off of using the D-pad to move their player and now its no longer an option. I think the same thing will eventually happen with button shooting.

It's like we're back in 2002-2003. Games are going to the basics and creating whole new mechanics. It's not about new features/gimmicks (even though they're probably there), but about going back to the basics. And I like it!

I think the buttons are a little easier for shooting and layups doesnt matter as much as they should because the shot blocking is so weak.

keep in mind that users that have button shooting is at a disadvantage offensive wise.not to mention that we live in a world where majority rules...so sometime we gotta just suck it up and go with the flow

I don't know how some users even play 2k with the button. I always amazed to hear someone say they use it. I almost feel like your missing out on the game if you do.

the only time i use the button to shoot is whenever im in a post up position...the shot stick is a little finicky here...when you flick on the shot stick it ends up being a shot you dont want, with the button youre able to pump fake without any fear of a thrown up shot...

# 159 rangerrick012 @ 06/22/10 03:10 PM
I only use the shot stick for layups, and only recently started doing even that. Shooting with the button is embedded in me, from SNES days, what can I say it's too hard to change after all these years.

It does take a little practice to get use to it. But with the shot stick the best part to me is that you can choose which hand to finish with.
