In a closed-door session, we got our first look at NBA2K11 earlier today at E3. Walking Chase Becotte and myself through the very brief demo was NBA2K11 producer, Eric Boenisch. The major announcement is the removal of Isomotion controls. Although a becoming staple in the series and a well-received feature, the NBA2K11 team felt Isomotion was too limited. However, there’s no word just yet on what new dribbling scheme will take its place in NBA2K11.
We also got a look at the game in action with a matchup of the NBA finalists. The first thing that stood out was the revamped presentation as you now see players getting off their team buses pre-game all decked out in suits. We didn’t get to see the Heat so no word on whether Dwyane Wade will be sporting his bow-tie look. As Eric described, a main goal of this year’s game will be to polish the overall look and feel for NBA2K11. Although still in production, player models look more unique, legs don’t seem as large as before and arm length is more appropriate to the player’s body size. I do think heads looked slightly bigger though. As for gameplay, the little of it we saw showed off new animations. One I particularly liked was Kevin Garnett almost going out-of-bounds while trying to receive a tough Rondo pass.
Like the control-scheme, we were also told online play will see a big overhaul in NBA2K11. Eric couldn’t get into further details, but he assured us there’s a lot of good things in store for online players in NBA2K11.
That’s it for now, do you think it was time for to lay Isomotion to rest? And what sort of dribbling mechanism will be introduced to the series to NBA2K11?

I, for one, think the shot stick is a great tool and hope it never gets removed.

1.Could you notice that 2k11 has new player models right away?
2.How did the Staples Center look?
Thanks
Pau's head looks pretty big to me in 2k10 as well. Were there any other players who looked unusual?

the Shot Stick is what saved the series for me after 2K4 and 2K5...and also the 2K6 Isomotion. If not for that, I wouldn't buy 2K6 and on...

Case in point - My boy plays b-ball, too, and he could NEVER get into console basketball games, although he was a console gamer growing up, because the feel wasn't right to him, so, one day right after the Live 10 demo came out, he was in town and came by to play Madden 10, with Madden being his favorite game to play for the last decade or so, and he wanted to check out the Live 10 demo, first. Guess what? He couldn't put it down. One of the first things he said about the game was how he dug how the moves were on the right joystick because it made him "feel" like he was on the ball court. We musta played over 20 games of the demo because he couldn't get enough of it and we never did get to Madden.

Sorta kinda surprised, but if the developers believe they have something better then go for it. Just make sure Tracy Morgan unveils it.

2K11 NEEDS a more simple, but at the same time, more complex and responsive control scheme when it comes to crossovers. Simple as that.

It's not harder to perform dribble moves with Isomotion compared to Live's system, it's just more frustrating and delayed. I'm truly sick of people defending everything about 2k in the name of "keeping it sim, weeding out the opportunities for cheese."
I've been playing Live since 95,and 2k since DC 2k... we all want a sim experience, but putting players on skates to simulate "weight" and making dribble moves "more difficult" should have never been the answer.
I'm excited to see what's new in 2k11.

Here's a video I captured that shows what was wrong with isomotion. It wasn't an organic control scheme and it was becoming far too scripted. Look how bibby's cross was stopped by an invisible forcefield.
This alone shows how badly 2K11 needed a change in this specific area of the game.

Though I think the Isomotion was horrible I response, I thought it was a good foundation. The player movement and physics of the game threw everything off. I hope they take fatigue, situation, and other nuances into consideration. I also hope hey go the realistic approach withthe freaking shot stick. I'm boy a fan of them saying they just upgraded a few things and polished the game. We need a better physics engine so we can have proper mismatches. So much irritating mess still hardcoded to this game. It's getting tiring.......

I really hope they leave the shot stick alone it is so essential for scoring floaters and gives you the ability to choose which dunk you want.
