While the NHL 16 beta has been over for about a week now, I wanted to take one more look back at the return of EASHL and provide some more thoughts on how it feels at this point. Glenn and Jayson did great work talking about their thoughts on the beta while it was going on so I tried to steer clear of many of their points. That being said, I wanted to provide a couple more positives and negatives that stood out to me after combing through hours of footage.

Players On The Rise

Young players in the NL rejoice! It was a huge week for youth across the board, and it's perhaps even more pronounced in the National League. Syndergaard went Gold, Joe Ross jumped from Common to Silver, Ken Giles nearly went Gold, Carlos Martinez nearly went Gold, Matt Duffy became even more of a monster against right-handed pitching, Joe Panik became even more contact heavy, and Randal Grichuk finally got his bump up to Silver.

As for the major players, Jacob deGrom is now a 91 overall, Aroldis Chapman was bumped back to a 90, and Brandon Crawford finally got a power boost and became a Gold as well.

Tier Changes

Players On The Rise

Manny Machado was given Diamond status this week, a week after many thought he would go Diamond. In general, this update was in many ways the second major update after last week's massive changes. Young players were given lots of love in this update in both the AL and NL (as you'll see in the next article). In addition, physical attributes and defensive attributes were touched for some players. For example, on defense Machado received an upgrade to his ratings, which helped him achieve Diamond status.

In general though, it was the young guys who perhaps got some love now for putting together solid seasons to this point. Trevor May, Preston Tucker, Mike Montgomery, Caleb Joseph, Delino DeShields Jr., Bo Schultz and Cody Anderson all got serious attention.

The other big-time players who got love included Josh Donaldson, Dellin Betances, Brian Dozier (Gold again), Chris Archer, Jason Kipnis, Corey Kluber, Wade Davis and Chris Davis (though his came via a position swap).

Another week is wrapping up in Diamond Dynasty as folks are getting to better understand the landscape after the major roster update and skyrocketing market prices. The All I Do Is Win pack was also released, which only included pitchers. All that being said, it's time to look ahead once again and try to predict who might be getting a ratings boost on Monday morning.

I'll be breaking the predictions into tiers based on my own confidence level. Also one last note, I went very light on predictions this week as I have no idea how they will go coming off the large update last week.

Ratings Boost Probability: High

-Hisashi Iwakuma - When you throw the first AL no-hitter since 2012, you tend to get noticed. Iwakuma has also been very good overall the past month. He had a rough start to the year and some injury issues, but has bounced back very nicely for the Mariners.

-Chris Davis - Chris Davis just keeps hitting bombs. He’s got nine home runs the last 14 days, 15 in the past month. He’s a beast.

The developers at Sony San Diego did something new and experimental on Monday by releasing a massive roster update that changed the ratings of many, many players in MLB The Show. It was a meaningful update for a variety of reasons that I will get into, but more than anything it was another attempt by a sports game developer to try and ensure its game is not shelved and forgotten.

So after the jump, I’m going to talk about this update and how it fails and succeeds to hit the mark.

EA Sports has released a Madden Ultimate Team primer of sorts that breaks down the general core of the mode, as well as what's new for this season.

Most of the info you'll find there is stuff we already knew in one way or the other. We knew about Draft Champions, and the fact that the UI would be getting improved and so on. However, I'm still going to bullet point out the new stuff to help MUT fans out:

-Solo Challenges and completing sets of collections has been made easier and more streamlined. This means you can now pick up where you left off with Solo Challenges, and you can quick sell 100 cards now rather than 20 to clear out space in your binder for more cards. In particular, the collecting aspect in MUT has been a train wreck of sorts for years, and since MUT is the most collect-heavy of the Ultimate Team modes, this sort of improvement should hopefully help ease that issue.

-Objectives will take a bigger role throughout MUT. Objectives were just used when you started the mode -- again similar to most other Ultimate Team modes -- but now these will be expanded. So you will have objectives you can complete throughout the season for additional rewards.

-Solo Challenges can now take place at times and locations other than 1 p.m. at your home stadium.

-There will now be scenario games, which is to say these will be "Ultimate Moments" where you get to re-enact the most iconic moments from the ongoing NFL season. In other words, you get to re-do real-life scenarios week to week during the 2015 NFL season.

-The MUT Gauntlet has been exapnded, and the Solo Challenges you play at launch will get tougher and tougher as you progress.

Cycling the puck should take on even more importance with NHL 16's EASHL mode. With teams being balanced, you'll need to get the puck deep and then move it to create chances. On the power play, the same concept will apply. If passing and finite movements are improved enough, that should allow you to be creative and create chances that can lead to power-play goals.

So here's a look at some puck cycling sequences put together in the NHL 16 EASHL beta. Tell us what you think.

Another week is wrapping up in Diamond Dynasty as we move into the "winning time" portion of the MLB season. Everybody who swapped teams during the trade deadline has settled in a bit at this point, and the July Topps 50 pack was released over the weekend as well. All that being said, it's time to look ahead once again and try to predict who might be getting a ratings boost on Monday morning.

I'll be breaking the predictions into tiers based on my own confidence level:

Ratings Boost Probability: High

-Jake Arrieta - There are not many pitchers who have done more for their careers this year than Arrieta. I think he's more or less confirmed his status as a top-flight pitcher, and his last update was on 5/4. In the last month, he's got 38 strikeouts over 35 innings pitched to go with a .86 WHIP. He's primed for an update.

-Danny Salazar - I had Salazar in the "medium" category last week, but I feel he's jumped into the "high" category now. He's striking out a batter an inning as of late, and all his peripherals look so much more in line with where they should be now that his home run totals have come down.

-Carlos Correa - I've said enough about Correa at this point. He's a rookie dynamo, and he shouldn't be a Bronze.

-Nelson Cruz - Another player I had in my predictions last week, Nelson Cruz has insane numbers on the year, and even more crazy ones over the last month. He's hitting .385 over the last month to go with 11 home runs. On the season he has a .992 OPS.

We here at Operation Sports really like Rocket League (like 9 out of 10 like it). We think it's dope, ill and, yes, even fresh. So we want to remind you that today is the final day you can get Rocket League for free via PlayStation Plus.

We think the game is worth the download either way, but hey, you pay for that PS Plus subscription so you should probably just get this really good game for free -- and then play it with all of our other awesome community members.

And if playing with cool Operation Sports folks is not for you, well then you still should not have a problem finding games because Rocket League has already been downloaded over 5 million times, according to the developers at Psyonix.

If you are jumping into the game, you should probably also know that a new patch just came out last Friday. Oh, and we have a new sub-forum for Rocket League that you can check out if you're looking to get tips or just want to chat about one of the best sports games that's been released in the last five years.

Players On The Rise

On the Gold front this week, Carlos Gonzalez regained his Gold status after losing it a couple months back. He's now officially a monster against right-handed pitching but still a platoon candidate overall if you're looking to keep a stacked team. Scott Kazmir has put in work all year, and after a couple really good starts with the Astros he's now been bumped up to Gold as well.

Catchers received some of the biggest upgrades this week: Curt Casali is a plus-13 this week; J.T. Realmuto is a plus-seven this week; James McCann is a plus-nine this week; and Roberto Perez is a plus-six this week.

Jacob deGrom is in the midst of a would-be Cy Young-type year if Zack Greinke did not exist, and he also received a boost, which cements his Gold status. A couple other overdue upgrades were given to Xander Bogaerts (now a Silver), Mark Teixeira (boosted power) and Lance McCullers (now a Silver).

Some big names like Robinson Cano, Anthony Rendon, Chris Davis and Ben Zobrist all got upgraded as well this week. However, only Cano actually got a ratings boost, the others got bumped up due to position swaps.

Finally, one last reminder about Carlos Gonzalez: Since he is an 86 again, he is now needed for the Colorado Rockies Collection.
