A release-day patch will be hitting gamers next week when MLB 2K9 is officially released on store shelves.

OS had previously learned about the patch via a post made by Erick Boenisch, the lead features designer on MLB 2K9, but did not have many details about the patch itself.

After contacting 2K representatives, OS now has some more official patch details. In addition to fixing the bug in the franchise mode that had been causing players to languish in free agency because most teams lacked enough funds to adequately pay free agents, the below bullet points are some of the additional fixes.
  • Added the ability for users to accept game invites while playing inside Franchise mode.
  • Improved the game response time when there is a loss of connection originating at the user’s network router/hub.
  • Addressed an issue where a disconnect would sometimes occur when a user without a HDD attempted to play an Xbox Live Player Match with only a 512MB MU storage device installed.
  • An issue regarding playoff tiebreakers occurring after playing through at least 15 years of franchise mode has been addressed. In the unlikely event that 8 or more teams tie for the wild card, the game will now handle the event properly.
  • Additional Rich Presence support has been added to the game to help users more easily identify what their friends are currently doing while playing Major League Baseball 2K9.
  • If a user had a storage device named using Asian or Russian characters, the title would display these characters improperly. This issue has been resolved.

A demo for MLB 2K9 will be on Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Network sometime next week, according to Erick Boenisch, lead features designer on MLB 2K9.

Operation Sports took part in a MLB 2K9 conference call today, and during the question and answer session OS was able to ask about the release date for the demo. In addition, a myriad topics were discussed, so check out the OS live blog for various other MLB 2K9 tidbits.

Also, special thanks to Bryan "PastaPadre" Wiedey for joining in with OS during the live blog.

It is a different look for the Waiver Wire this week as Chase Becotte is joined by three NBA Live developers. The three Live developers, Mike Wang, Ryan Santos and Sean O'Brien, talk with Chase about NBA Live 2009 and what went right and wrong with the title. In addition, the developers talk a bit about NBA Live 10 and what fans can expect from that far-off title -- in a roundabout way of course this far from release.

Instead of asking the same old tired questions to athletes (see: what does it feel like to be on the cover of a game?), I like to ask questions that are truly hard-hitting -- and then judge them in a completely arbitrary way so I can feel superior to people making much more money than me. I am just living the dream folks.

Operation Sports had a chance to talk with MLB 09: The Show online producer Jason Villa while out in San Diego this week. We asked him about some of the nagging online issues, and what gamers should expect from The Show online this year.

Operation Sports: So what has been done this year to deal with some of the nagging online issues: online lag, frame-rate drops and so forth.

Jason Villa: On the gameplay side, what we tried to focus on was just tuning up the experience. So any frame-rate issues you would have seen last year, any hitches with the batter, any release points with the pitcher, we tried to shore those up and tried to make it as close to the offline experience as possible. Obviously there is inherent lag, so there is plenty of trouble doing that, but you're going to get a pretty true experience on the online gameplay side.

We have just posted our hands on preview of MLB 09 The Show.

Quote:
"A lot of The Show’s charm comes from its ability to surprise you even after you have played it for 30 hours. Whether it is a new cut-scene you have never witnessed before or a new fielding animation that suddenly pops up for the first time, those are the moments when many gamers really appreciate The Show as a franchise. And that is why it is kind of tough to size up MLB 09: The Show (and most other baseball games) in preview form.

In real baseball, it is easy enough to figure out who the stars are and why they mean so much to their respective teams. Yet, it is the little things that are done on the field and in the dugout that will ultimately determine which teams are the most successful. In that same way, it is easy enough to realize that the core mechanics of MLB 09: The Show –- hitting, pitching –- are solid overall, but it will take many hours of playing time to decipher whether or not MLB 09: The Show is another game of the year contender."

This week on the Waiver Wire podcast, Bryan and Chase talk about the additions being made to the Franchise mode in MLB 09: The Show -- and the fact that both of them will be seeing/playing the game in the coming weeks. They also look ahead by talking about the upcoming releases in January and February, which include Skate 2, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade and Front Office Manager. They also talk about getting your name -- yes you -- into NCAA Football 10. Bryan also bemoans the fact that all of EA's games will have "10" in the title. Finally, the duo try to answer the question, what's the best way to show a game before it comes out?

We also want to hear your feedback on this issue. So in the comments section of this story answer the question: What's the proper way to show a game during the pre-release cycle? On next week's show we'll discuss some of your comments, and if this is a success, we'll do it again moving forward.

Also, send all other questions/comments/concerns/complaints/compliments etc. to [email protected] so we can talk about them on future shows.
