You can all pretty much taste it at this point, right? Madden 12 is really close.
With that in mind, I wanted the staff to take one last look at the Madden 12 demo in this edition of Fact or Fiction. Beyond that, I wanted to get a feel for how hopeful or worried they are heading into the launch-day festivities.

Folks will be able to download the FIFA 12 demo on September 13. This year, the announcement that goes along with the demo is the fact that Ultimate Team is being included on the disc from day one.
This comes as no surprise, but there is an incentive for returning Ultimate Team players. Those who played the mode previously will get bonuses much like last year, but they will also have the chance to start building their team up on the web on September 20, a week before FIFA 12 actually releases in the US.

Multiple outlets are spilling the beans about NBA 2K12's newest mode: NBA's Greatest. The mode seems to be an extension of The Jordan Challenge mode that was available in NBA 2K11.
This time around Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and 10 other unannounced all-time greats will be featured in this new mode.
At this time, the unannounced players are not the only thing shrouded in mystery here. It's unclear how many different scenarios or teams will even be included in this mode. This is being intentionally done so fans debate who they think should be included, according to 2K Sports.
The folks at 2K Sports want to go even further when it comes to re-creating moments in the NBA's Greatest mode by mimicking broadcasts from the '80s and even '60s. This means different camera angles, replay styles or even black and white video in order to bring people into the historical aspects of these games.
The NBA's Greatest mode seems like a really smart one when considering the ongoing NBA lockout, as well as the success of The Jordan Challenge mode last year.

The new NHL 12 Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) video has been posted on the GameStopCanada YouTube account. Clement Kwong, a producer working on the game, details some of the changes that will be making their way into HUT for NHL 12.
The two key improvements mentioned in this video are the fact that you can save 20 different HUT lineups, and that you can download a friend's team and use it to earn pucks for that user.
The varying lineups will be a big help when trying to enter tournaments. Certain tourneys have certain requirements, and many of those tournaments really never got touched by many users because it was such a hassle to change an entire squad purely to play a single game (potentially) before being knocked out of the tournament. On a personal level, I just like being able to save different lineups because it staves off boredom. You amass a ton of players in this mode as time progresses, and being able to try more of them out on the ice is a nice perk.
Being able to download another person's roster and earn him or her pucks is certainly a different take on things, but it sounds a little dangerous. I'm not sure I see why people would go out of their way to earn someone else pucks rather than spend that time earning pucks for their own team -- there also seems like there could be some "puck farming" going on here if more than one person can use your team offline at once.
At the end of the video, Kwong mentions that EASHL info is coming next week, and that there is still another "exciting" announcement on the horizon.

THQ thought that selling MX vs. ATV Alive at a reduced price point of $39.99 on day one would lead to more initial sales and help drive the post-release DLC. This idea unfortunately did not pan out, according to a conference call with THQ CEO Brian Farrell.
In a news report published by Gamasutra, the idea was to try and mimic a successful business model from another sector of the video game world.

Back at E3, I got to take on the role of Need for Speed: The Run's lead character, Jack, as he battled and raced through the downtown streets of Chicago. While I thought it was an exciting, graphically stunning experience packaged with solid driving mechanics, it also felt a bit too linear. A whole game based around these Chicago-style races where I'm running from the cops on a singular path with interactive quick-time events sprinkled in seemed a bit shallow to me, especially when Autolog is the best thing EA has going for it today in its racing games.
However, my fears have been eased a bit after getting a chance to play the title again at a recent EA press event. It looks like Need for Speed: The Run wants to be the Cruis'n USA for the modern era.
