Playstation Plus, Sony's online gaming subscription service, will be getting a $10 price hike this next month.

On top of getting access to online functionality within games, Sony's service also offers discounts on game purchases and even some free downloads. The three-month subscription is also getting a $7 price hike to $24.99. One-month subscriptions will remain at $9.99.

In what is ultimately an unsurprising move, FIFA Ultimate Team is adding a new aspect to its mode called FUT Champions.
FUT Champions is a new way to compete where each week you will compete to qualify for the weekend league and in-game rewards. There will be monthly leaderboards within the mode to track how you stack up against other FIFA players.

NBA Live Mobile is celebrating the arrival of International Basketball into everyone's minds with a lot of items which will be available starting on August 6! NBA Global will feature new players, collectibles, live events, and more! Check out everything being added below:
- 20+ Players: On August 6th, we'll be releasing 20+ Series 1 Global players. Each player has a boosted OVR from their base item and represents their country. This Series 1 batch of players will available for a limited time only. Hurry up and get them as unique Series 1 players are needed to complete certain Global sets. Make sure you follow us on our social channels for more information.
- Global Collectible: In addition to new Global players, we will also be releasing a new Global Collectible. Log-in each day of the program to earn one of these collectibles. Additionally,these collectibles can be found throughout the game in Live Events and Packs. So, what's the purpose of the collectibles? You can then use them in various sets to earn players and help yourself get closer to the Global Master.
- New Live Events: Each day of the program, we'll be putting up Live Events with varying difficulties and rewards. Make sure to play often, as you never know what you might find.
- Global Throwback & Legend players: In addition the new Global players, we are also taking over our player releases with a Global flavor. During the program, newly released Legends and Throwback players will be those that have had standout performances for their country on the Global stage.
- Global Master Carmelo Anthony: This is it, the Ultimate Reward. Carmelo Anthony has established himself as one of the best International players ever. He's won 2 gold medals, broke the record for the most 3-pointers made and is ranked 4th all time in points and rebounds. With his strong International performances, he's earned the right to be our Global Master player. To make him even more special, this Carmelo item has the special Clutch ability. When this ability is active, Carmelo will have an increased chance of scoring within a zone beyond the 3-point line.

EA Sports today announced a new ratings hub for Madden NFL 17.
This hub will come complete with a completely searchable and sortable database of every player in the game, updated in real time and dynamically with in-game roster updates.
Also, EA pulled back the curtain on how overall ratings for players in Madden NFL are calculated. Check those out in the chart below:

It appears the folks at 2K won a major legal challenge against the use of tattoos in NBA 2K16:

As we reported on back in February, this suit is exactly why other games don't really use player tattoos unless they are fully licensed.
2K won this challenge on a technicality, which could have cost Take Two upwards of a billion dollars in damages. However, it is likely that tattoos in NBA 2K (and other sports games) will continue to grow scarcer due to copyright and licensing issues.
Take Two is still potentially on the hook for some damages in the case so they aren't out of the woods yet, however the total damages they may have been on the hook for has lessened considerably after today's ruling.

When it comes to mobile sports gaming, SBK16 is a bright spot among a lot of pretty lame and average sports titles.
SBK16 is a free-to-play game representing the 2016 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship. SBK16 features bikes from Aprilia, Kawasaki, Honda, Ducati, MV Augusta, BMW and Yamaha. On top of that, there are real SBK riders along with several real race tracks with which to race on.
In short, there’s a lot of attempts at authenticity within the game, and the attention to detail does show.

EA Sports today announced the arrival of the NHL 17 Beta, available now to NHL Insiders. So basically if you get the NHL Newsletter and if you signed up for the beta by July 7th, you can get it today -- a full 24 hours earlier than expected.
The Beta will be available to everyone else starting tomorrow and will last through August 4 and features several modes for you to get a kickstart on your upcoming season:

When EA reps announced they were going to be focusing on mobile for the NBA Live series, it was not that surprising. Still, I was filled with quite a bit of hope that NBA Live Mobile would deliver a new and interesting mobile sports gaming experience.
However, after a week with the game, I can confidently say that if the future of gaming (and sports gaming) is on mobile, we’ve got a very long way to go.

Fast forward to 2016 and Super Stickman Golf 3 has now hit the app markets, and if you loved the series last time, you are going to love it even more this time.
Most free-to-play games leave you with the feeling that you cannot really experience the fullness of the game without shelling out some dough. This is somewhat smart business it seems, but many pretty average to terrible games get by via making a ton of money milking consumers this way.
Super Stickman Golf 3 plays by this model, but actually mixes in platform-smart gameplay that will leave you wanting more. The courses themselves all offer a challenge, and while this isn’t a golfing sim, it is truly a golfing game.

GameInformer recently sat down with Cam Weber and Matt Bilbey to talk about the overall direction and future of EA Sports. Check out the full interview here, or read some select excerpts below.
On whether Ultimate Team will ever be its own game: "...taking our most engaged audience in the most competitive place to play Madden – which is really what it's become – segmenting those groups and pulling them out doesn't make sense."
On if we are going to see more sports titles on the PC: "PC is literally based on demand. There's still the high demand for FIFA on the PC globally because of the global appetite for the game. I think that's less so with Madden, but I think if that changes and an opportunity presents itself, I think we would definitely leverage the opportunity."
On will we see sports spin-off titles like NFL Head Coach again: "...a lot of those ideas we're looking at prototyping for the mobile business at the moment."
On the yearly release cycle being the best model for sports games: "I think that the strategy we have right now for our games, in the sports context, is the right one. Will that evolve and change in the future? I bet you anything that will, and we're trying to build our games in a way that at that point in time, that appetite's there, we can actually change our entire build to a 100% service if we need to."
On a return of NCAA Football: "We're very fortunate in that I have no idea what's going on with that. I can say, because I've spoken to Cam about it, it's a similar answer – the opportunity on mobile to test something and do something there is perhaps the one that's in nearer sight. But I don't keep up to speed with the legal wranglings of the NCAA conversations."
