Begins at 12noon ET...
The 2011 Super Bowl
Colts @ Packers
In short, Peyton Manning was effective but not overwhelming, but combined with the Colts defense manhandling the Pack, they won convincingly 27-9 to take The Super Bowl!
It's time to start looking ahead to 2012 with all of the busy off-season activities coming up!
Hope you've enjoyed following The Return of The Chiefs - Franchise Year 3 (2011)!
I'll be back with "next year" (which really means "ASAP"), hoping for even more from The Chiefs as they continue to build on what has become a solid nucleus of players!
Stay tuned to The Chiefs Dynasty!

Conference Championships:
Colts @ KC - Lose 13-10
* It was a fantastic run, but the road ended in the AFC Conference Championship. In what was a hard-fought contest on a cold KC field, The Chiefs had a chance, but the Colts were able to hold on for the victory.
This game essentially was a slug-fest throughout and came down to a couple of plays. The Colts, on their own 36 with the game tied at 10 late in the 4th quarter, produced a 52-yard pass from Manning to Garcon with 33-seconds to go. That set them up for a last second (actually :08) field goal to take the 13-10 lead. That was the ball game!
I think we have a very strong core, which should bode well for the coming years. The challenge in the off-season will be to re-evaluate everyone that we have on the roster and look to find a way to push us that step further in 2012.
And, on behalf of the team, thanks to all the fans that stayed with us the past couple of years! I do hope you enjoyed this year's run and certainly hope that we can deliver even more for you next season!
NFC Conference Chamionship:
Packers 41 @ Eagles 22

Divisonal Playoffs:
Ravens @ KC - WIN 24-14
* Simply a phenomenal game. The team came out as if they had been to the division playoffs each of the last ten years. They played like they knew they were supposed to dominate a very good Ravens team. They played a very strong defensive game and kept Flacco guessing from the first sequence.
Rest of the Div Playoffs:
Colts 21 - Bengals 17
Eagles 34 - Saints 31 (ot)
Packers 42 - Vikings 33
Next week - Conference Finals:
Eagles @ Packers
Colts @ Chiefs
* Last time we played the Colts was in Week #13 of last year (2010) when we dropped a very close game 21-18 on a cold Kansas City day. I'm sure the conditions will be similar, if not colder, and we certainly hope the outcome is completely different!
See ya next week!!!

Wild Card Games:
Ravens 19 - Patriots 14
Eagles 20 - Bears 13
Colts 40 - Chargers 20
Vikings 37 - 49ers 32
So, the Divisional Playoff picture is set for next week:
Colts @ Bengals
Eagles @ Saints
Vikings @ Packers
Ravens @ KC Chiefs
We haven't seen the Ravens since the beginning of the 2009 regular season, when we we just on the road to rebuilding, losing 49-19. I know we have more for them in the playoffs this year and I'm confindent neither of us will take the other lightly. While we haven't been here for a while, we appreciate what it means and want very much to extend our season!

With the playoffs here, and The Chiefs very much a part of it, while the team prepares for the winner of the Wild Card week, I thought I would sum up what was an outstanding regular season so that we can then simply concentrate on the task at hand...winning in the post-season for the first time in a long time!
Hi-Lites:
WR Leilon Black - NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year 2011
QB Matt Cassel - NFL Best Quarterback 2011
Coach Todd Haley, by the way, second in the Coach of the Year voting!
Pro Bowlers:
QB Cassel
CB Flowers
SS Frazier
TE Leoni
CB Dyles (as a Rookie - 3rd Round, drafted 68th overall)
Congratulations to the entire team.
May we find even more success in the post-season!

First - Once again I have outpaced my blogging and I am currently (in "real time") working through the pre-season games in 2012. I have completed all of my off-season activities, after wrapping 2011 (I LOVE Madden and Franchise mode), and will report that chronologically! But, in an effort to learn as much as I can about Madden and the NFL, both through the forums (OS of course) and through Googling information, upon doing a little more research into the NFL salary cap and contracts, I discovered the following:
Without turning this into a debate about whether this should be in the game or not (it would be nice, but probably would have to be adjusted per every negotiated CBA), clearly the game will let you do things outside of these rules.
Again while researching how to play franchise mode I came across a very informative article that suggested, mainly because they'll sign for minimal cash, signing lower picks simply to 7-years at that minimum. If it turns out you made a decent potential/ovr pick, then you've got a long term, GREAT contract for a player that clearly would demand more when the time came.
So, with that said, please understand that I DID NOT discover this, unfortunately, until I had gone through another draft! For the record, I just HAPPENED to follow the rules with my first couple of picks, but did sign later picks to 6 and 7-year deals! Going forward, I will FOLLOW the rules as outlined by the NFL CBA, as it currently stands.
The source, by the way: Ask The Commish.com
Part of the fun of playing offline franchise, for me, is learning stuff like this!!!
- Teams can sign rookies picked in the first half of the first round of the draft to a max 6-year contract.
- Players from the second half of the first round can only be signed to a max 5-year contract.
- Players taken after round one can only be signed to a max 4-year contract.
- Rookie deals cannot be renegotiated in the first two years.

Regular Season:
Week 17 - KC @ Patriots - WIN 13-10
* What a way to close out the regular season and get pumped for the playoffs!
The Chiefs finish an impressive 1st in the AFC West, with a record of 12-4!
The Bengals, by the way, were division champs, putting together a 9-game winning streak to end the year with a 14-2 record. They will certainly be a team to watch in the playoffs.
BUT SO WILL THE CHIEFS!!!

Regular Season:
Week 16 - KC @ Bears - WIN 42-19
* Chicago, Christmas Eve, festival yes, but darn chilly too! At game time it was a mere 30F and would tax everyone, both on the field and in the stands. We felt we really needed to send a message home to our faitfhul because we were finishing with two on the road. Chicago played along it seems!
With this victory, and our 11-4 record, we clicnh a playoff spot! That was the goal coming into 2011.
Cassel, by the way, leads all AFC Pro Bowl voting at the moment.
As many as 5 Chiefs could see Pro Bowl time this year if the voting holds for another week.
The 12-3 Patriots in the final week. This should be good...
Stay tuned!

Regular Season:
Week 14 - Dolphins @ KC - Lose 19-17
* I think we simply took our eye of the ball again. We were defeated by a team 4-8 coming in that just seemed to have our number. And we certainly did not help our own cause by turning the ball over 5 times, and losing every one of them!
Week 15 - Raiders @ KC - Lose 15-14
* We're in them, but just can't seem to win them. These close losses are starting to get tough on the mental stamina. And again we seem to let up on what should be easy motivation, playing a rival at home!
By the way, with two weeks to go, we're 10-4 and there's really nothing settled yet in the AFC West:

- Cassel picked 3 times (an on-again/off-again problem)
- Leoni a bright spot 5-135 yards and 2 tds
- Bowe, Long, Charles and Wade all good games too
- Darby, Williams, Cason stood out on defense

Regular Season:
Week 12 - KC @ Raiders - Lose 21-16
* Iwould love to have this one back. Our six game winning streak ended in Oakland. What started out as a track meet ended in a tough defensive battle and while we were good in both ways when needed, we were simply beaten on this day.
By the way, not to give anything away, but looking ahead in our schedule, we do end the year against the Patriots in which hopefully we be a huge contest for both teams! But, let's not look too far ahead and focus on next week.
Week 13 - KC @ Jaguars - WIN 31-14
* It was a nice feeling to see the squad put last week completely behind them and handle a tough Jaguar team. The win put us at 10-2, matching our sponsor promise of a ten-win season during the life of our three-year agreement, so I am thrilled from a front office standpoint.
We were outstanding, greeting Garrard everytime he touched the ball, or greeting anyone else that happened to receive it from him, when he did get rid of it. This was sweet.

Regular Season:
Week 10 - KC @ Lions - WIN 27-20
* Our victory over the Lions extended what is now a 5 games winning streak. This was a tough game against a 5-3 team coming in and we were ready.
Week 11 - Bills @ KC - WIN 21-3
* Much like the recent Browns game, I was a little worried about the Bills coming into town. But the team was ready, responded and simply would not disappoint the hometown crowd! That puts us at 9-1 for the year and statistically atop the NFL standings.

Week 8 - Vikings @ KC - WIN 21-13
* If we thought Green Bay was a test, having the 5-1 Vikings come to town was an even bigger test at this midway point of the season. Two 5-1 squads meeting on our turf...Love it!
Week 9 - Browns @ KC - WIN 31-3
* The 1-6 Browns could easily have been a problem. They are struggling and after coming off the big win over the Vikes, it might have been easy to look past Cleveland. I am proud of the team because they went to work and really never let the Browns into the game!
