Ravens @ KC - WIN 10-7
Absolutely brutal day in KC. The rain was really coming down hard at game time and didn't seem to let up at all as the game progressed. Neddles to say, that certainly had an effect on both teams, going both ways, and ultimately the final score reflects that.
- CB (FS) Watsha huge interception for only TD of the game early
- CB Cason with another interception with only a minute to go to seal it
- Cassel 12-25 160 yds and 2 ints
Despite the weather, a win is certainly a win and we will take it. The 2012 Chiefs are now 5-0. We'll spend the rest of this week in the office going over the first half scouting reports with our management team while the rest of the team works hard for our next game.

Office of the General Manager
The Kansas City Chiefs made one move at the trade deadline today, that they feel is the final piece to the puzzle, giving them cap space, moving players that were in the final years of the contracts with the Chiefs and, at the same time, adding youth and depth to what already is an extremely talented roster.
Gone are LOLB Tucker and MLB D.Williams. Both were traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for RE K.Hayes and also the Bucs 5th Round Draft Pick.
Tucker was acquired in 2009 from the San Diego Chargers in a 3 for 3 deal and was the last remaining of those three players on The Chiefs roster.
D.Williams has been with the team for several years and simply was beaten out in the MLB position the past couple of seasons by Derrick Johnson. We wanted both to have a chance to get in some playing time elsewhere and felt this was a good move for both the club and the players and wish them the best of success in Tampa.
In RE Hayes we get a young "70ovr" that we feel will compete at the RE position in the coming years as we build youth and depth behind our very strong starting lineup. And, of course, draft picks can always help keep the team stocked with up-and-comers to compete for positions and keep our veteren players finely tuned!
We expect Hayes to be dressed in time for Week #6.

KC @ Broncos - WIN 40-17
* Another rivalry rekindled in the fifth week of the season. Denver have been showing signs of strength early this year and we really though ours could be one of the stronger divisions in the NFL this season. If so, then we still love our chances after handing the Broncos their second defeat of the year.
- RE Dorsey 2 sacks
- CB Flowers also had 1 sack
- CB (FS) Watsha, MLB D.Johnson and FS (CB) Dyles all had 1 int each
- QB Cassel was 17-23 247 yds (119.2 rtg) and 2 td
- HB Charles 26-122 yds and 1 td
- WR Mack 7-137 yds and 1 td
- K Succop strong again FG 80% and longest 52 yds
4-0 and the fourth 200+ yard game passing for QB Cassel in a row. We are having the best possible start and certainly hope to keep the foot to the pedal in week #6.
Once again, despite the start and what we feel is a strong depth chart, I have still made a point of using the phone and making a few calls. There are a couple of names out there that we would like to see if we can pry loose to join The Chiefs. Naturally, that will also mean we'll have to disappoint current roster players, but the overall goal, from the top down, is to win the Super Bowl and my job is to do everything in my power to make that happen!
Whether it one move, or more, large or small, I'll do what it takes
* By the way, as a follow-up to the previous two FREEZE episodes, I have been playing completely offline now, "spectate simming" these games in 2012, SINCE the freeze, so far without a glitch. Again, not casting stones, but I will keep things offline as I continue this season on Madden 10.

Bye Week!
Please keep following The Return of The Chiefs. We plan at least one very important move prior to the Trade Deadline before Week #6.
That's all I can tell you at this time.

KC @ Colts - WIN 37-6
* QB Justin Clark was overwhelmed, to say the least. Our team saw Colts on the schedule in week #3 as soon as the 2012 schedule was released and were looking forward to this one. The Super Bowl Champions, in their park and a chance to avenge the loss that knocked us out of the playoffs and handed them a shot at Lombari!
- Manning, as mentioned previously, out with a broken collarbone
- CB Cason 2 ints, SS Frazier and CB Keys 1 more each
- K Succop 3-4 FGA, longest 56 yds
- P Colquitt avg 42 yds
- QB Cassel 16-23 280 yds (3 200+ yd games in a row)
- WR Mack 3-94 yds and 1 td
- TE Leoni and FB Mughell 1 td each
Our only hope is that the Chiefs and Colts can again meet in the playoffs and settle this once and for all. We're 3-0 and feeling extremely positive after the third week of the season.

KC @ Bengals - WIN 16-6
* After the 50+ points in the season opener, I was expecting a slightly tighter game 2, but this too was quite a surprise. The Bengals had an impressive run of 9 wins to end 2011 and we were expecting this to be a tough game. But once again we had all the answers it would seem.
- HB Charles caught 7-58 yds, Leoni 5-38 yds and Bowe had 1 td
- QB Cassel 20-37 201 yds (78.8 rtg) and 1 td
- HB Charles also ran 17-88 yds, J.Williams 5-14 yds
- Entire defense was very strong! 2 ints and 3 sacks between them
With this win the team finally was able to get Coach Haley to the .500 mark for his career. He feels pretty good able that, the team feels even better and we're all thrilled to kick of the season 2-0!
Next week we face another stiff challenge in the Baltimore Colts. However our advance scouts tell us that QB Mannings is on the sideline with a broken collarbone and will not play. Certainly an opportunity to put more distance between us and the rest in the AFC West!

Chargers @ KC - WIN 52-45
* Wow! We start the regular season with a rival game and it turns into a track meet! I was certainly not expecting to get into a shoot-out, but was more than pleased that we answered every blow with a quick counter.
- Chiefs with 746 Total Yards Offense
- QB Cassel 18-24 441 yds (156.3 rtg) and SIX tds
- WR Mack 6-135 yds and 3 tds
- WR Black also with 1 td
- Charles 17-113 yds and 1 td on the ground and 2-104 yds and another td receiving
- MLB D. Johnson, SS Frazier and ROLB Merriman all great days on defense
The six touchdowns thrown by Cassel in the game tied him with several others at SECOND on the all-time record list. QB Cassel all was AFC Player of the Week!
All round impressive way to start the season, but I doubt we could keep that kind of pass all year. In fact I guarantee the defense is already working out to be even more productive next week. Some even contemplated a few extra days of 2-a-days to reinforce the fact they simply have to step up.

Today I am pleased to announce that we have made two key moves that we feel will further strengthen our chances of going even further than the AFC Conference Championship in 2012.
After extensive scouting during the past several weeks, we have come to an agreement with the Tennesse Titans, sending CB Brandon Carr to the Titans in exchange for FS Joseph Watsha and also 5th Round Pick in next seasons draft.
We feel the addition of Watsha gives us young to develop at the FS position and while we're saddened to give up Brandon, we were quite simply very deep at the CB position and were looking to turn that depth into the future.
We also completed a scouting assignment in Oakland, where we quite honestly spotted what has to be one of the best new talents to take the field. We've had our eye on him for quite some time and were highly motivated to make sure that he was ours.
We're also announcing today that we've moved The Chiefs 1st Round Draft Pick and long-time Chief WR Bobby Wade along with an additional 7th Round Pick to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for WR Russ Mack, and the Raiders 3rd & 4th Round Picks in next years draft.
Russ Mack, we believe, has the potential to be one of the very best receivers in the NFL and we wanted him to wear Chiefs Red for a very long time!!!
Please join me in welcoming both to the team.

KC @ Browns - WIN 24-21
We travelled to Cleveland for the final pre-season tune-up and had a very good game against the Browns. They tested us, but we came away with another victory to go 4-0 in pre-season 2012. Simply outstanding.
- 60% on 3rd down conversions
- QB Cassel 12-15 192 yds (140.9 rtg) and 1 td
- QB Jackson 13-19 149 yds (52.2 rtg)
- HB J.Williams and Charles both had td rushes
- TE Leoni 5 and WR Bowe 4 catches
- MLB D.Johnon and D.Williams both strong defensively
What a great way to wrap up the pre-season. We feel ready at virtually every position and when you scan the depth chart there are very few weaknesses. That said, we have done some pre-season scouting and are making a few calls. I should have news to announce shortly...
By the way, during the Cleveland game I again experienced a FREEZE! The game simply locks up at a random point and will not allow any commands from the controller. So once again I had to exits the game and start all over again.
In both cases we were handly beating the opposition, so in essence we managed a 6-0 pre-season.
I sincerely hope this is not something that will continue.
If you have a lengthy franchise under your belt and have or don't have any of the same experiences to share, by all means send me a message. I'm just curious if this is common or isolated and, if common, what hopefully can be done to stop the freeezing.
Thanks!

Steelers @ KC - WIN 37-7
If the pre-season is a time to work out the kinks, consider the kinks suitably worked! We met the Steelers on home turf and simply allowed them no breathing room, no way to get going and in the end handled them...end of story!
- QB Jackson 6-8 89 yds (150.5 rtg)
- QB Cassel 8-13 122 yds (60.4 rtg) 1 td
- HB J.Williams 16-52 yds
- HB Charles 10-15 yds and 1 td
- WR Bowe, Black and S.Johnson all had great games
- SS Frazier and ROLB Merriman both outstanding
- As a team we had 7 ints, 2 going to touchdowns

KC @ Cardinals - WIN 33-28
Staring down Larry Fitzgerald is always fun. With the moves that we have made in the past couple of years on defence and especially in our secondary, I felt confidence that we would give him everything he could handle. And apparently we did!
- QB Cassel 15-19 213 yds (153 rtg)
- HB J.Williams 9-32 yds
- HB Charles 8-35 yds and 1 td
- WR Wade 3-62 yds and TE Cottam 5-75 yds and each 1 td
During this game, for the first time ever on my PS3 Madden 10, I had a game completely freeze! The stats above are from a second run through because the freeze could only be solved by a shut down. VERY frustrating!
I posted a forum entry asking if there was any way that one could disconnect from the EA Servers in game OR as a setting within PS3 when playing games? I do not recall getting connection messages when I've played previously, but now seem to get them each time I fire the game up. In no way am I alledging that being connected might freeze the game, but I certainly would like to see if I can eliminate that as a possibility!
If I determine anything, I'll let you know...

Saints @ KC - WIN 34-30
I would consider The Saints one of the more dangerous teams in the league, even in pre-season. We got off to a great start and were leading 24-14 at the half. Then we simply put our heads down adnd outscored them in the second half 20-6 for the victory.
- QB Jackson 8-10 197yds (152.9 rtg) 1 td - for a phenomenal rookie debut
- QB Cassel 10-17 122yds (61.0 rtg) 1 td & 1 int
- HB Charles 12-29 yds 1 td
- Both HB Charles and WR Bowe also caught 4 passes

It's time to kick off 2012 with the Pre-Season schedule:
- The Saints come to town
- The Chiefs visit Arizona
- We welcome the Steelers in week 3
- Then travel to Cleveland for the Browns to wrap up
Pre-Season Trade:
Just prior to kicking on the pre-season, I made two more moves to both free cap space and roster spots because we were simply carrying too many bodies and salaries.
QB Croyle traded to the Chicago Bears for Bears 6th Round Pick
SS Morgan traded to the Cardinals for Arizona's 5th Round Pick
The Chiefs Cap as we start the pre-season now sits at:
10.85-million with 4.9-million Penalties

Franchise Year #4 (2012)
2011 was a great year in The Chiefs franchise, We truly believe we have turned a corner from also-ran to legitimate contender and in the off-season will do everything we can to put ourselves into a position of contending for the Super Bowl in 2012!
Front Office:
Coaching Staff all continue their agreements into 2012
Stadium Upgrades - Team Museum and Rainwater Catcher
Sponsorship: Begin final year of 3-year agreement with Scarn for 3-million dollars. This past season we met their expectation of either 10 wins or a playoff berth and that did seem to show up in the team revenue at end of season!
Off Season:
Retirements: None!
Re-Signings:
K Succop to a new 3-year deal worth 3.75-million
* I thought about this, given I do have another Kicker on my roster that seems to have all it takes to be successul. We'll see if this new agreement stands for the full term?
Not Re-Signed:
FB Cox
LE Gilbert
RG Green
LOLB Adkins
DT Edwards
Released:
RE McGee
C Anthony
Free Agents:
Again we felt it important to build with the draft and there didn't seem to be anything of note that we didn't have in place already at every position, so we did not participate in FA.
Draft:
* Note that our 1st Round Pick was traded to San Diego for ROLB Merriman during the season
Round 2 - RE A.Mason
Round 3 - QB W.Jackson
Round 3 - ROLB K.Anderson
Round 4 - FB T.Jefferson
Round 4 - RE T. Duncan
Round 5 - C A. D'Orazio
Round 7 - LG D. Boswell
We targeted the FB position looking to find a back-up prospect for FB Mughelli, after the release of FB Cox. And we also concentrated on both the O and D-Lines. That said, we did spot a young QB that seemed to have some tools and might be an heir to Matt Cassel in QB Jackson.
Rookie Signings:
RE A.Mason - 5years/2.2million
QB W.Jackson - 5years/3.6million
ROLB K.Anderson - 4years/2.85million
FB T.Jefferson - 6years/2.1million
RE T. Duncan - 6years/1.98million
C A. D'Orazio - 6years/1.86million
LG D. Boswell - 7years/2.17million
* Please see my previous blog note about rookie signings and the CBA. In future I will adhere to those basic rules but simply did not discover them in time.
This year our Draft Grade was A-, 10th overall!
Best value was deemed young QB Willis Jackson (73ovr).
Best grade (A+) only went to the Packers (second best grade year in a row, as I recall - and not bad for a team that appeared in the Super Bowl)!
Salary Cap:
When I was done, the cap sat at 7.23-million, with 4.90 in penalties.
Look out 2012 - Franchise Year #4...
