Wild Card Playoff
KC @ Broncos - Lose 6-0
Heartbreaking to say the least.
Two weeks in a row without scoring a single point.
Our season ends in the Wild Card with yet another whimper.
I sincerely thought the chance to have another crack at the Broncos only two weeks after dropping a close one to them would have been more than welcomed by a team seeking redemption, but...
Sorry, only another string of zeroes to really report. So, let's just say that, calmly and rationally, we will now dissect this past year and review what was great and not so great about our season and see if we can make adjustments, in whatever way we can, to come back even stronger in 2013.
I again am very disappointed in the way we finished the year, but I also know that we are very close to our ultimate goal. Our task in the off-season will be to see what pieces are required to complete the puzzle.
Stay tuned...

End of Regular Season Report
From the Office of the General Manager - Kansas City Chiefs:
I would like to congratulate two outstanding Chiefs on their Pro Bowl selections this season.
CB A.Cason has had a great year, playing outstanding football and has certainly been a shut-down presence in the secondary for us.
RG B.Albert will also be headed to the Pro Bowl. He too has been a standout on the offensive line. We have not been without challenges along the front this season, but are thrilled that one of our own has been recognized. Also timely is the fact that we'll be sitting down after the post-season to see if we can hammer out a new deal to keep him right where he is for a few more years!
Once again congratulations! Let's hope we can use these two selections as even more motivation for our up-coming Wild Card with the Broncos!!!
Good Luck gentleman.

Regular Season - Week #17
KC @ Steelers - Lose 30-0
Wow!
Not even worth a report...
I have never seen so many zeroes on a game sheet...
We truly are limping into the playoffs with a 10-6 season record that doesn't reflect the 3-game losing streak with which we have ended our season.
Now the good news!
* (Always "glass is half-full")
We have drawn the Wild Card Playoff games against the Denver Broncos. If you recall, only a week ago we lost a 3-point game to the Broncos, battling for first in the AFC West. I am hoping, no, COUNTING on the guys to be particularly motivated for this re-match!!! And I am also hoping this will shake us completely out of the funk.

Regular Season - Week #16
Broncos @ KC - Lose 20-17
Now I am both officially and certainly both upset and disappointed with our play. This is yet another 3-point loss (second in the past two weeks) that really stings. We have dropped two important games against division rivals, this latest effectively the battle for the division. Not much of a Christmas present with only three days to go before that day.
We again we simply outplayed at the QB position and, as a result, were somewhat listless on offense. Not to mention a key stat is the fact we gave up 4 sacks, which probably added to the question mark at QB.
I am merely upset, but not pushing the "p" button yet!
We have the tools at every position on the field. We have week #17 coming up, another important contest against the 11-4 Steelers to solidify a playoff spot and get on a roll against great opposition in time for the post-season. And we simply have to bring it!

- HB Charles 13-42 and 1 td

Regular Season - Week #15
KC @ Raiders - Lose 28-25
Another rival. Another close loss. Another case of us just being outplayed at the worst possible times in the game. The Raiders QB Duncan just had the much better game and took advantage of us wherever and whenever he could. Disappointing loss.
On top of everything else, former Chief WR B.Wade came back to really haunt us. He had 4 catches on the day and scored 1 td. Funny how regularly a former teammate uses that extra little motivation against his old squad.
If you recall, we dealt him to the Raiders just prior to the start of the regular season this year (along with our 1st round and 7th round draft picks to secure WR Mack and also picked up the Raiders 3rd and 4th picks in the same deal). I would do that deal again in a heartbeat...but, today it did come back to bite us a bit!
We stand 10-4 and face our biggest challenge of the season next week in week #16. It's the 10-4 Broncos and 10-4 Chiefs to likely decide the division! Should be a great game.

- QB Cassel 16-30 233 yds and 1 td, but totally outmatched at his position this day
- WR Black 1 td catch
- CB (FS) Watsha fumble recovery for 1 td
- HB Charles 16-38 yds and 1 td

Regular Season - Week #14
Patriots @ KC - WIN 44-3
Outstanding! I am very proud of the team. I wanted to see if this proved to be a barometer of where we would be against the elite in the league and we stepped up.
That said, both QB Tom Brady and WR Randy Moss were out of the game with injuries that will actually keep them out 7 and 6-weeks respectively, so were were dealing with some second-string players in very key positions.
Not to editorialize, but the "injuries" in 'spectate (cpu vs. cpu mode)' is quite clearly broken. I believe through the entire time I've been simply watching games, as I understand to generate more accurate stats, there have been ZERO injuries to my team. That is simply and unfair advantage (that I am exploiting whether I like it or not)!
Hope that is one of the tweaks made in M11?
First Patriot loss of the year and, despite their injury woes, I am thrilled to have our team climb to 10-3.
By the way, DT Orien Williams - Player of the Week in the NFL!

- Entire defense had a field day with QB Smith
- 5 ints, 2 for tds
- ROLD Merriman had 8 tkls
- HB Charles 24-129 yds and 1 td
- WR Black & TE Leoni each caught 1 td pass
- QB Cassel 14-18 180 yds and 2 tds

Regular Season Week #13
Saints @ KC - WIN 34-26
Just a curious aside that this is our 4th home game in a row - AND we have another coming up next week! One of the M10 schedule makers quirks this season I guess??
The Saints came to town to play in a chilly and very wet Arrowhead Stadium. Game time temperature was only 46F and we had a rather steady rain throughout the game.
I hate to kick the opposition when they're down, but these are simply not the same Super Bowl contending Saints that I recall seeing a few years ago. They gave us a game, but we were by far the better team on the field today.
That said, we do have a test coming! The current cream of the league, the undefeated Patriots, visit Kansas City next week. We'll be ready! This should be an excellent test of where we think we'll be for any success in the post-season.

Regular Season - Week #12
Browns @ KC - WIN 23-20
Once again we did not make it easy on ourselves. We let the 4-6 Cleveland Browns come to our place and almost mess us up.
While we did put up the "V", I am still a bit concerned that we don't appear quite as dominant and even as focused as earlier this season. I am hoping however, that we are using each one of these close, challenging games as character builders for when we really do need to dig deep and come back in a close contest against a superior opponent.

Regular Season - Week #11
Falcons @ KC - Lose 38-35
These close loses are starting to concern me a bit, not to mention sprouting a few more grey hairs in the process. This game can basically be summed up by the last play...Atlanta FG with essentially no time on the clock to win.
All of the above and we simply lost this one. We now fall to 7-3 on the year and I think we again have to go back to the practice field and really work hard on getting back to the basics and the things that we seemed to be doing right through the first third of the season when we were undefeated.

Regular Season Week #10
Raiders @ KC - WIN 27-10
Back-to-back rivalry weeks are great. I think they allow you to really gauge your progress against the people within your division and certainly winning within the division is step one on the way to football's ultimate goal!
We played a great game. There were a couple of keys. First, we forced the Raiders to turn the ball over 4 times. That was a team difference. And second, CB Cason picked on off in the end zone late that all but secured the victory and quashed any sort of Raiders comeback attempt. That too was a team effort!
Our record improves to 7-2 and we have now defeated each of the teams that share our division. We are anticipating the last run of the regular season, but are definitely not looking beyond the Falcons, next!!!

Regular Season - Week #9
KC @ Chargers - WIN 30-24 (ot)
Wow! Every bit of the expression "nail biter" came into play this week. We went back and forth with the rival Chargers, but essentially the game came down to the last several minutes.
With about 2:30 on the clock and the Chargers marching into scoring territory to put it away, the defense stuffed them on a 4th down gamble. I breathed a sigh of relief ONLY until we then went right through 3 downs of our own and had to punt the ball away! That simply let them up off the carpet and they marched the ball down and scored on us.
However, after the kick-off we were also able to march down the field and K Succop put up a FG with :02 left to send it to overtime.
In overtime The Chiefs kicked off and the Chargers moved the ball smartly toward midfield. I was anticipating the heartbreak of a long distance FG for the loss when Chargers QB Rivers threw an out that was intercepted by CB (FS) Watsha, who took it back all the way for the win!
This truly is a team sport and today the defense saved us in the end. We are back winning, with a record of 6-2 on the year.
Another division rival, the 4-4 Raiders coming up in Week #10!

KC @ Panthers - Lose 34-28
Not being able to put the first loss behind us has compounded with a second loss! And not just any loss, but dropping a game to an 0-6 team coming in. This one also hurt, quite a bit!
Another game where we struggled early and made a lot of mental errors. Then, but the time we did finally wake up and actually mount a respectable comeback in the 4th quarter, it was too much way too late.
I totally subscribe to the "never lose games to teams with records worse than yours" philosophy and we completely kicked that idea around the parking lot today. I think a healthy dose of "re-focus" is in order because we now find ourselves in a very competitive AFC West, with a game against the 4-3 Chargers coming next week!

Regular Season - Week 7
KC @ Panthers - Lose 16-13
The ultimate goal this year was the Super Bowl! Period! But, after going 5-0 through the first six weeks, you can't help but to start looking a little further down the schedule and imaging what it would be like to just possibly run the table.
That dream came to a crashing end in week #7 as we traveled to Tampa Bay. BUT the overall goal is still very much our focus!
This was an ugly one. We could just never put anything substantial together. Here's hoping that we have a great week of practice and can quickly put this, our first loss this season, behind us and keep looking forward.
