Top 12 Prospects
The Atlanta Hawks endured a tough 2012-2013 season finishing 40-42 and missed the playoffs. At the all-star break, the Hawks were 10 games under .500 with a 21-31 record. Atlanta management decided to start planning for next year and the future. They made two trades at the deadline. They started with a smaller scale move. They moved Devin Harris and Deshawn Stevenson to the Toronto Raptors for Landry Fields and John Lucas III. Fields looks to be a part of the future with them acquiring his 2 year contract at 6.25M a year. Lucas also has 1 year left at 1.57M.
Hawks then made a splash and dealt swingman Josh Smith, Louis Williams, and Mike Scott to Milwaukee for the budding big man Larry Sanders, Samuel Dalembert, J.J. Reddick and their 2013 1st round pick. A gutsy move which will clear a lot of cap room considering Dalembert and Reddick's contracts are expiring.
Just yesterday they accepted Larry Sanders team option for 3.05M. Atlanta's cap space now stands at 35.06M. Point Guard Jeff Teague is a restricted free agent and Hawks are expected to match any offer thrown his way. This puts them in a position to be a major player in free agency.
As for the draft, Hawks are also in great position. They drew the 14th pick and 19th pick (via Bucks). The latest rumor has them trading up into the top 10. Offering two picks might be able to get them in lottery position. Lets take a look at some of the top talent in this year's draft.
1. Lonnie Slay - Kentucky
7'0" 247 lbs. 19 yrs.
Slay looks to be one of the best big men to come along in quite some time. The NCAA Defensive Player of the Year led Kentucky to a Final Four appearance just as a freshman. His shot blocking ability makes him a defensive anchor for any team. Slay led the NCAA in blocking (3.2) and rebounding (12.7). On the offensive side of the court, his game improved as the season went on. His low-post moves are still developing.
2. Reinaldo Paciani - Spain
6'6" 223 lbs. 19 yrs.
Paciani is the youngest player in the draft with possibly the most potential. Many scouts are saying that he is reminiscent of a young Manu Ginobili. He can handle the ball efficiently and is dangerous from the triple threat. At such a young age, Paciani excelled across seas against some of the top talent in Spain. He should be able adjust easily with his NBA ready size.
3. Maurice Dixon - Pittsburgh
6'8" 229 lbs. 20 yrs.
Maurice Dixon made a huge jump from his freshman to sophomore season. He was blessed with a Lebron-like frame and tons of athletic ability. Struggling to put it all together after his freshman year, Dixon worked hard in the off-season and put together an impressive sophomore year. He has good handles for a player his size and has vastly improved his shot. He shot 41% from beyond the arc. Dixon's inside game is also above average.
4. Everett Richards - Michigan
6'5" 187 lbs. 22 yrs.
Everett Richards is considered one of the better pure shooters in the draft. Over his three years at Michigan, Richards shot 44% from downtown. His game does not stop there. He can handle the ball and get to the rim with ease. Many scouts have mentioned Ray Allen when studying him.
5. Isaac Peeler - Louisville
6'7" 202 lbs. 21 yrs.
Rick Pitino turned Isaac Peeler into the best on-ball defender in college basketball. He helped Pitino and Louisville beat Jake Stribling and Indiana in the National Championship. He held Stribling to 14 points on 5-16 shooting from the field. Peeler is continuing to work on his offensive game. He struggles to shoot from outside but slashes to the hoop impressively.
6. Scooter Bailey - Arizona
6'1" 194 lbs. 20 yrs.
Scooter Bailey is the best scoring point guard in the draft. Bailey paced Arizona all year and led them to an NCAA tournament berth. He averaged 17.4 points per game. The downside is his lack of court vision and inability to run an offense.
7. Hariss Erhan - Romania
5'11" 196 lbs. 22 yrs.
The Romanian has the best court vision of all point guards in the draft. Many compare his style of play to Ricky Rubio. He will dazzle you with quickness and flashy passes. Many are questioning his ability to score in the NBA. With the right team, he could lead an offense.
8. Jake Stribling - Indiana
6'8" 223 lbs. 20 yrs.
Stribling grew up and went to school in Indiana. People in Indy have been calling him an "athletic Larry Bird" since his high school days. People outside of the state seem to disagree. His father has coached him all the way through high school. Dad has turned him into an all-around player. After losing to Louisville in the National Championship, he decided to come out after his sophomore year.
9. Angelo Kersey - Cincinnati
6'10" 215 lbs. 21 yrs.
Kersey is an athletic defensive-minded player from Cincy. He was second in rebounding (11.6) and blocking (2.7) to Lonnie Slay. Kersey showed to be a strong finisher at the rim with many highlight dunks this year. He had the second best vertical at the combine.
10. Drew Hardy - Ohio State
6'2" 213 lbs. 21 yrs.
Buckeye point guard Drew Hardy is the most well-rounded point guard in this class. Scooter Bailey can score but lacks vision. The Romanian Hariss Erhan has vision but cannot score efficiently. Hardy has both but is ranked slightly under the two. Many believe that he has reached his potential which sets him back.
11. Dedric Powers - Louisville
6'11" 235 lbs. 19 yrs.
The big man Dedric Powers was an essential element to Louisville's championship run. While he lacks athleticism like Lonnie Slay and Angelo Kersey, Powers has a terrific low post game. He is a very fundamental player that is reminiscent at times of Tim Duncan.
12. Marshall Sutton - Wisconsin
6'11" 244 lbs. 22 yrs.
The Wisconsin Badger had a terrific four year career. His experience is one of his best assets. He has developed each year and created a solid name for himself. Sutton bangs down low with the best of them. Not only does he have a good inside game, he can step back and knock down the mid-range shot. He has been compared to a Carlos Boozer type player.

Kyrie Irving to return against Knicks at MSG
After some strenuous tests Friday at the Cavaliers Facility, Kyrie feels ready to go.
Cleveland, Ohio -- The city of Cleveland is about to find out what their basketball team is really capable of. After receiving doctors clearance earlier in the week, Cavaliers medical and coaching staff ran Kyrie Irving through a final test of strenuous activities on Friday. They waited to see how his surgically repaired knee would respond the following day. Kyrie warmed up with the team Saturday but did not play against the Pistons. "It felt great. No swelling, no soreness, no nothing. I'm ready to go" said Irving following the 99-76 win over the Pistons. "We chose to sit Kyrie tonight after all the drills we put him through the past few days. Gave him some rest rather than play him and throw him on the plane to New York directly after this. He will play and start Sunday in New York." said coach Byron Scott.
Kyrie will jump into a much better situation than when he left it with a torn MCL after last year's all-star break. There are some new faces in the line-up including Kevin Love, Andre Iguodala, Thabo Sefolosha and others. These new faces can play. They have managed to carry the Cavs to a 16-8 record. They lead the Central Division by 2.5 games and stand alone in the second spot of the Eastern Conference race. Kevin Love had just two words and a sinister smile for me when I asked him how Kyrie returning would effect the team, "You'll see." The overall team feeling is excitement. Coach Byron Scott said "Kyrie makes the game easier for all the players around him. You bet the team is excited."
What better place to return than 'the basketball mecca', Madison Square Garden. Many eyes will be on Kyrie and the Cavs Sunday night against the Knicks. It's a 7:30PM start...Don't be late Cleveland!

Cavs outlast Kobe, and Lakers
Cavaliers 104 Lakers 100
Kevin Love blocks Kobe Bryant from behind.
After getting beat by the Clippers in the Staples Center two nights ago, the Cavaliers defeated the Lakers in the same building. It was a statement game for the visiting Cavs. It was a close game throughout. Byron Scott and his Cavs went blow for blow with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. The "Black Mamba" was red hot after halftime. Bryant scored 27 of his 35 points in the second half. While it was impressive, it was not enough.
Jarrett Jack paced the Cavs offense against the Lakers. It started with his physical play against Steve Nash. Jack completely outplayed the future Hall of Famer. Kevin Love just missed a double-double with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Andre Iguodala chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Dion Waiters and Anthony Morrow combined for 30 points off the bench. Waiters scored 17 in 22 minutes. Morrow was extremely efficient with 13 points in 13 minutes. The Cavaliers improved to 3-2 on the season.
They now scoot over to Phoenix to face the new look Suns (4-1). Suns traded their 2nd overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft to the Pacers for the uber-athletic Paul George. In free agency, they convinced Dwight Howard to sign a contract for 4 years worth $80M. It's going to be another tough one for Cleveland. The Cavs are being tested early here on this six game road trip.
Jarrett Jack had his best outing this season with 20 points and 6 assists.

Cavs open season with a W
Hawks 81 Cavaliers 100
Byron Scott and the new look Cavaliers came out with a bang to open the 2013-2014 season. Cleveland was tenacious on defense from the tip. They held the Hawks to 33 first half points. Coach Scott used an uptempo pace that had Atlanta scrambling. Kevin Love and Anderson Varejao crashed the boards then both delivered great outlet passes to get fastbreaks going.
After halftime, the Cavs came out flat. Hawks outscored them 23-11 in the third quarter. Byron Scott was not happy. Coach Scott ripped into the team following the third quarter buzzer. The Cavs were still up 68-56. "I saw their focus in the third quarter...or the lack of it I should say. This is the NBA and you cannot let up no matter the score." said Scott. Maybe this is the all-in, hard-nosed, winning type of attitude Cav's fans have been waiting for.
Kevin Love had a well rounded game with 20 points, 9 boards and 6 assists.
Six Cavaliers scored in double figures. New stars Iguodala and Love had strong performances. "Iggy" had 22 points and 6 assists. Love had a well rounded game with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Dion Waiters came off the bench to chip in 12 points. Next up, we will have the Indianapolis Pacers visiting Saturday night.

The Cavaliers were a very busy team this off-season. Last year the Cavs were the second worst team in the league. It is very possible that they could completely head the other direction and reach the playoffs in the 2013-2014 season. Directly after the NBA Draft Lottery resulted in the Cavaliers receiving the third overall pick, they traded it away.
They traded it for this man, Kevin Love. Cleveland's front office sent their 2013 1st Round(3rd pick), 2014 1st Round, Tristan Thompson, Alonzo Gee for the former UCLA Bruin Kevin Love. Love on a few occasions made remarks about Minnesota's front office not having a plan in place. "You walk into the locker room every year, and it's completely turned over," Love told Yahoo! Sports. "There's new guys everywhere. And then it happens again and again. You start to wonder: Is there really a plan here? Is there really any kind of a ... plan?" He also hinted that he could be looking to sign elsewhere in two seasons if the team still isn't competitive. "I haven't been in the playoffs yet. I'm looking at my contract in the eye of two years from now, and if I haven't been to the playoffs -- or it's been one playoff berth -- well, it's going to be tough to say, 'Oh well, I'm going to stay here and continue to rebuild,' " he told Yahoo! Sports. Cleveland inquired to Minnesota about Kevin Love and to everybody's surprise, a deal was made. Shortly after that deal, the Cavs powered back up the trade machine and acquired the Switzerland native Thabo Sefolosha for their 2013 2nd round(1st pick of 2nd Rnd) and 2014 2nd round pick.
Cavaliers then turned their attention at Andre Iguodala. "Iggy" chose not to re-sign with the Nuggets and tested the free agent market. They jumped at the chance and signed him to a three year deal with a player option for a fourth year. His contract breaks down like this.
Year 1 - 9.17 mil
Year 2 - 9.58 mil
Year 3 - 10.00 mil
Year 4 - 10.41 mil (player option)

With Kyrie Irving out the first 6-8 weeks rehabbing his torn MCL, the Cavs signed three point guards. Jarrett Jack will start and log the most minutes while Kyrie is out. They also picked up Will Bynum and A.J. Price. For shooters off the bench, Cleveland signed Kyle Korver and Anthony Morrow. Lastly they got big man Ryan Hollins. Here is a look at the complete roster.
The season is right around the corner. How will the new look Cavaliers fair against the rest of the league? Will Byron Scott be able to lead this team? Can they win without Kyrie? How will Kyrie play when he returns? There are many unanswered questions for the Cavaliers heading into the 2013-2014 season.

Bulls dominate Kings
Bulls use second half surge to win
Bulls 110 Kings 84
Derrick Rose lays in two of his 30 points against the Kings. He also had 8 assists.
A 110-84 score shows an easy win for the Bulls on the road in Sacramento. However, it wasn't until the third quarter that the Bulls remembered who they were. Kings gave the Bulls trouble in the first half. Going into the locker room at halftime, the Kings were only down 38-44. "We weren't playing well, and Thibs let us know that." Joakim Noah said about the scene in the locker room at halftime. Bulls leaped ahead in the third quarter by scoring 36 points to the Kings 23. Bulls outscored the Kings 66-46 in the second half.
Derrick Rose was again the high scorer for the Bulls with 30 points to go along with 8 assists. Carlos Boozer just missed a double-double with 19 points and 9 boards. Joakim Noah also just missed with 9 points and 12 boards. Luol Deng continues his strong play with 19 points and 7 boards. Kyle Korver returned to action with 2 points in just 7 minutes on the floor. "It felt good and didn't tighten up on me. Just got to get my legs back now." said Korver about his back injury.
Next up for the Bulls are the struggling Memphis Grizzlies (10-18). They face off New Year's Day in Memphis.

Monta Ellis lights up Bulls
Ellis goes for 43 points as Warriors cruise to victory
Bulls 112 Warriors 127
Monta Ellis carved up the Bulls defense all night. Ellis scored 43 points.
"Poor. Very poor effort defensively." said Tom Thibodeau. It was a hard game for coach Thib's to watch. The reason for that was Monta Ellis' 43 points. Ellis was on fire as he shot 14-26 from the field and went 13-15 from the charity stripe. The bigger guards from Chicago had trouble keeping up with him. Stephen Curry also played well with 21 points and 6 assists. David Lee was in foul trouble most of the game and finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds in 27 minutes.
Derrick Rose led the charge for the Bulls with 32 points and 6 assists. He did not shoot very well though. Rose was 13-28 from the field. "I fired up a lot of shots trying to get us back in the game. Unfortunately, we came up short." said Rose. Carlos Boozer chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Joakim Noah had a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards. Noah also had 2 steals and 3 blocks. Luol Deng found himself in foul trouble as well. He scored 11 points in 27 minutes.
Bulls (21-5) continue their California stay against the Sacramento Kings (12-17) Wednesday night.

Very Merry
Bulls give the Lakers a Christmas Day beatdown
Bulls 102 Lakers 86
Derrick Rose throws down a dunk against the Lakers Christmas Day.
The Chicago Bulls are making another statement. A statement to the rest of the league that their not going anywhere. Bulls in a prime time game on Christmas Day, beat the Lakers in Los Angeles. The Bulls operated in a more team oriented offense. On the other hand, the Lakers looked to lean on one guy in Kobe Bryant. Bryant played well with 30 points but he couldn't do it all by himself.
Derrick Rose played well on both sides of the ball. He scored 23 points with 8 assists. He also managed to grab 5 steals and 3 blocks. Luol Deng played well also. He chased Kobe Bryant around for 42 minutes. Through all that he put up 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Taj Gibson came in off the bench and put up 12 points.

Six straight win for Bulls
Bulls out-hustle and muscle Cavaliers
Bulls 94 Cavs 78
Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah are beginning to play very well together.
Bulls handled business at the United Center against the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday night. "They played Bull basketball tonight. A great defensive effort" said Tom Thibodeau. There is something to that statement by coach Thibs. Since his arrival, he has really changed the culture on the floor for the Chicago Bulls. They are back to the kind of mindset that won two three peat championships in the 90's.
The Bulls had a balanced effort against the Cavs. Derrick Rose set the tone offensively. He got everybody involved with 14 assists. Rose also managed to score 19 points. Boozer flirted with a double-double. He had 19 points and 9 rebounds. Noah on the other hand, did record a double-double. He pulled down 18 boards to go along with 10 points. The two big men are playing well together down low. Luol Deng and Rip Hamilton both chipped in 15 points. The Bulls also got 12 points from Ronnie Brewer off the bench.
Bulls now travel to L.A. for a Christmas Day showdown with the Lakers (18-8). Kobe Bryant has started the season on fire averaging 33.1 ppg. He has six straight games of 30 or more points.

Home cooking
Bulls return home to beat Bucks
Bulls 106 Bucks 76
Rip Hamilton's legs look fresh as the evidence shows in this shot of him dunking.
Tom Thibodeau has not been happy with the Bulls defense as of late. While they continue to win, Thibs is still upset with how many points they have been giving up. Well the defense got back on track Tuesday night at the United Center. The Bulls returned home from Texas to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 106-76. "We played better defensively tonight. I thought we did a great job of closing out on shooters on the perimeter" coach Thibs said. The Bucks shooting 1-22 from the arc supports that statement from Thibodeau.
Offensively, the Bulls played very well. They got three players score 20 or more points; Rip Hamilton, Luol Deng, and Derrick Rose. They dished out 30 assists and shot 59% from the floor. Rip Hamilton has been playing very well as of late. For the season he is averaging 10.8 ppg. In his last five games he is averaging 17.2 ppg. This is the kind of play the Bulls front office was hoping for when they signed Rip.
Bulls stay home for one more game against the Cleveland Cavaliers (6-17) on Friday night. Following that game the Bulls head to Los Angeles for a prime time match up against the Lakers on Christmas day.

Bulls blowout Spurs
Rose and company dominate aging Spurs
Bulls 118 Spurs 98
Without Tim Duncan in the lineup, Carlos Boozer dominated the paint.
Time is running out for Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs. They were trounced by the Chicago Bulls 118-98 Saturday night on their home floor at the AT&T Center. Suffering from a broken finger, Tim Duncan sat out their match up against the Bulls. The Spurs starting lineup was to small and they got steamrolled in the paint. Dejuan Blair and Richard Jefferson both stand at 6'7". Blair started at center while Jefferson started at power forward. It did not work out for the Spurs.
Carlos Boozer took advantage of the smaller lineup shooting 10-12 from the field and scored 21 points with 11 rebounds. Chicago's other big man Joakim Noah scored 13 points and also grabbed 11 boards. "We were able to pound the ball down low with success tonight. Not having Timmy (Duncan) out there made it easier" said Noah. Derrick Rose had another balanced night of scoring and dishing. Rose had 25 points and 9 assists.
Bulls now return home for two games against the Bucks (7-16) and the Cavaliers (5-17).

Bulls win in Houston
Stephen Jackson joins Rockets; Three in a row for Bulls
Bulls 113 Rockets 103
Derrick Rose throws down a dunk on Luis Scola Wednesday night in Houston.
News broke late last night that the Houston Rockets acquired Stephen Jackson through a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks received Johnny Flynn, Hasheem Thabeet, and a second round pick for Jackson. With the Rockets standing at 12-8, they felt acquiring Jackson would help push them into the playoffs. They seem to be tired of waiting on the maturation of Terrence Williams. Stephen Jackson made it to Houston just in time to tip-off with the Bulls. While he did have a nice debut with 19 points, 11 boards and 6 assists, it was not enough to stop the Bulls.
The Bulls shot the lights out in Houston with a whopping 60% from the field. Derrick Rose had another good scoring night with 29 points. "The only statistic I looked at tonight was turnovers. I had eight. That can't happen. I've got to play better" said the humble Rose after the game. Bulls had 6 players score in double figures. They also had 28 points off the bench. Rookie Jimmy Butler saw his first extended action of the year and played well. Butler had 4 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists in 11 minutes.
Bulls will stay in Texas but scoot on over to San Antonio. They play Tony Parker and the Spurs (13-11) Saturday night. Bulls beat them in Chicago on November 30.

Bulls soar past Hawks
Rose's effort is the difference; Korver suffers injury
Bulls 102 Hawks 96
Derrick Rose dunks on Joe Johnson Tuesday night at the United Center.
Last year's MVP Derrick Rose is making his claim as this year's MVP. Rose continued his stellar play Tuesday night, beating the Atlanta Hawks 102-96. He finished the game with 28 points and 16 assists. Rose scored 11 of his 28 in the fourth quarter. While Derrick played well, he did get a good outing from the rest of the starting lineup. All five starters scored in double figures. Rip Hamilton scored 16 and looks more and more comfortable in the Bulls system.
Kyle Korver came in the game early in the second quarter and caught fire. Within six minutes Korver knocked down three shots. Moments after hitting those shots, Korver went up for a rebound and came down on his back. Coach Tom Thibodeau said "Kyle has a lower back injury and could miss a week or two. We'll miss him but same as always. Next man up." The next man up he could be referring to is rookie Jimmy Butler. We can expect to see some extended minutes for him.
Thibodeau and the Bulls jumped on a flight to Houston following the game to face off against the Rockets (11-8) Wednesday night. Its a quick turnaround game for the Bulls so lets hope they are ready.
Josh Smith gets past the Bulls defense and throws down a dunk.

Bulls 116 Pistons 74
Derrick Rose welcomes Brandon Knight to the NBA with a posterizing dunk.
The Chicago Bulls followed up their two game losing streak with a blowout of the Detroit Pistons on the road. The Bulls (15-4) are still undefeated on the road at 11-0. They used an all-around team effort to dismantle the Pistons. The Bull's offense was blazing, shooting 56% from the field. The defense put together a tremendous effort. They only allowed the Pistons to shoot 39% from the field.
Derrick Rose led the charge with 21 points and 12 assists. Carlos Boozer chipped in 19 points and 8 boards. Rip Hamilton visiting Detroit for the first time as a Bull, had a good game with 16 points. "I had alot of good memories here. But tonight was business as usual. We had a job to do, and we came in and did it." The "Bench Mobb" played well as usual. They scored 42 points from the bench. The Bulls now get two nights off and return to the floor Tuesday to take on the Atlanta Hawks in Chicago.
