Rose's 14 point fourth quarter pushes Bulls past Kings
Bulls 94 Kings 83

Derrick Rose came alive in the fourth quarter scoring 14 points in crunch time.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Sacramento Kings were leading the Bulls 61-58. Derrick Rose rised to the occasion, scoring 14 of his game high 30 points in the fourth. The United Center, also known as the Madhouse on Madison, was electric and chanting "M-V-P!" Not only did Rose score 30, but he also dished out 12 assists. "Derrick's game is really just starting to bloom. He is finding that balance of scoring and assisting" said coach Tom Thibodeau.
Bulls also got a big game from Luol Deng. He managed to put together a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. Bulls now finished their home stand 2-2. They now hit the road for the dreaded "circus trip." They are away for eight games. Here is a look at the upcoming trip.

Lawrence Frank out in Detroit; Jud Strickland hired
After an 0-6 start, general manager Joe Dumars has decided to pull the plug on the short lived Lawrence Frank era. It has been rumored that the players were not behind him and the chemistry of the team has showed exactly that. "We are dedicated to winning in Detroit and are trying to get back to that." said Dumars.

Celtics and K.G. agree to 2yr/19.93M extension
With the extension, this gives Garnett three more guaranteed years with the Celtics with a player option for a fourth year. Paul Pierce is also signed for three more years while Ray Allen is only signed through this year.

Roy Hibbert signs extension for 6yr/60.11M
The Indiana Paces have committed to Roy Hibbert with a big extension. The six years is surprising but with Hibbert being just 24 years old, he has time to grow.

Bulls hang on for win
Rose's complete game beats Thunder
Bulls 76 Thunder 70

Rose paced the Bulls with 26 points, 9 boards and 7 assists.
Coach Tom Thibodeau was very pleased after Thursday night's tilt between the Bulls and Thunder. They held one of the best offensive teams in the league to just 70 points. "Defense clicked tonight. We contested every shot and did a much better job of boxing out. We won the battle on the boards tonight." said Thibodeau. Bulls have struggled on the glass to start the year but out rebounded the Thunder 43-32. Center Joakim Noah was the main contributor with 14 rebounds.
Derrick Rose once again put on a MVP type performance. Rose had an all around game with 26 points, 9 boards, and 7 assists. "When we play defense and rebound like we did tonight its much easier. I'm able to run the floor and make plays." said Rose.
Chicago did not get much from Carlos Boozer. Boozer had a rough night. He failed to record a field goal going 0-9. Once again though the 'bench mobb' came through for Boozer. Taj Gibson and Omer Asik shared minutes to spark the team. Taj Gibson was asked about his role after the game, "Its a team game and we all have one goal on this team. So when my name is called, I jump up and do my part." This is the attitude that keeps these Bulls running.

Lob City
Griffin and Clippers beat Bulls in nail biter
Bulls 84 Clippers 87

Blake Griffin dominated the paint with 29 points and 10 boards.
Down three with :16 seconds left in regulation, coach Tom Thibodeau called a screen for Kyle Korver in an attempt to tie the game. Korver got off a heavily contested shot that rimmed out. After the game there were many questions from the media about Korver shooting that and not MVP Derrick Rose. "I called up a play and it didn't pan out. Simple as that. I have faith in Kyle and the rest of that locker room. I don't regret making that call." Thibs said.
The Bulls played pretty well defensively but had a hard time slowing down the exciting Blake Griffin. The young rim rocker put up 29 points and 10 rebounds with a few highlight dunks. His teammate Chris Paul was knocked out of the game with an injury. Clippers are breathing easier now, learning that its just a back strain and should only miss a week or two.
Chicago now has lost two in a row and it doesn't get any easier. They now take on Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. They also feature the only point guard who can match athletically with Rose in Russel Westbrook. I asked Tom Thibodeau the importance of this game and he had this to say, "Every game is important. The season is still young but we don't want to put ourselves in a hole. We have to come ready to play Thursday night."

Hawks get revenge in Chicago
Bulls get blown out by Horford and the Hawks
Bulls 73 Hawks 102

Al Horford dominated down low with 22 points and 12 boards.
The Atlanta Hawks still had their playoff series loss fresh in their mind when they entered the United Center. After getting knocked out of the playoffs to the Bulls in six games, they wanted some revenge. They got it Saturday night at Chicago's home opener. The two teams looked evenly matched in the first half going basket for basket. After halftime it was a different story. Hawks dominated the second half and held the Bulls to just 30 points in the third and fourth quarters combined.
"Its a shame because we did some things well in the first half. But we just weren't ready to answer the bell after halftime. We couldn't get stops when we needed them. Got to give Atlanta credit, they locked us down offensively in the second half" said Tom Thibodeau. The Hawks were much more aggressive going 20-23 from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, Bulls were in catch up mode going 4-20 from beyond the arc.

Al Horford's presence down low caused fits for the Thibodeau's defense. His former college roommate Joakim Noah noted that after the game, "He had it going tonight. We've had some battles since we entered the league and he won tonight." Horford finished with 22 points and 12 boards on 10-14 shooting. The Bulls stay in Chicago to take on the up and coming L.A. Clippers Tuesday the 8th.

Bulls soar past Hornets
Defense key in rout of New Orleans
Bulls 93 Hornets 69

Derrick Rose throws down two on the Hornets Wednesday night.
For the second straight night, Bulls took advantage of another team adjusting to new pieces. This offseason the New Orleans Hornets made a blockbuster trade sending Chris Paul to the Clips and received Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu, and some draft picks. It was apparent early on that their chemistry wasn't there yet. Bulls outscored the Hornets 28-12 in the first quarter. That hole was enough for the defensive minded Thibodeau and company.

Joakim Noah looks primed to finally have an all star year.
"Jo set the tone early defensively. I think he picked up about 3 or 4 blocks in the first quarter. We were able to get stops early and turn them into points" Thibodeau said about Joakim Noah's play. The center from Florida recorded 6 blocks along with 15 points and 10 boards. Noah was key in building the large lead. The defense by Noah and the Bulls led to fast break points.
All five starters scored in double figures. Derrick Rose led the surge with 22 points and nine assists. Carlos Boozer played well and chipped in 19 points. Luol Deng scored 12 and Rip Hamilton had 11. As a team they shot excellent going 41-68 for 60% from the floor.

Bulls are back!
Reigning MVP Derrick Rose leads Bulls past Champion Mavs
Bulls 93 Mavs 73

Derrick Rose drives for two on opening day against the Mavericks.
The NBA is back! The Chicago Bulls returned to action Tuesday night against the reigning champion Dallas Mavericks. This was lined up to be a great opening day test for Tom Thibodeau and the Bulls. So, it was surprising when Chicago began to dominate the Mavs. It could have been a result of the new look Mavs not playing together much in the shortened off season.

Carlos Boozer celebrates after a dunk and the foul.
The Bulls new addition of Rip Hamilton went well as he scored 10 points on 4 of 4 shooting. As usual, the Bulls were led by reigning MVP Derrick Rose. He mixed his game up very well. He scored 20 points on 8-13 from the floor while dishing out 12 assists. "I just took what the defense gave me. I took the lane when it was open and dished out to my teammates when it closed up" said Rose after the game. Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer both managed to record double-doubles.

Luol Deng recorded a double-double scoring 15 points with 11 boards.
Coach Thibodeau planned out another great defensive scheme against the Mavs. Bulls held them to 73 points while shooting 41% from the floor. When asked about the defense Thibodeau had this to say, "We closed out very well on the perimeter and contested shots. We had a big advantage from beyond the arc tonight because of that." The Bulls 'Bench Mobb' played better than the stacked Dallas Mavs bench. Thibodeau talked about that as well saying, "I thought our second unit out performed theirs tonight. With two "Sixth Man Of The Year" award winners coming off their bench and combining for just 10 points. I thought we did well holding them in check." The Bulls now travel to take on the new look Hornets Wednesday night.

Preseason Poll
The preseason polls were released today with a few surprises. Many were surprised that the Stanford Cardinal are #2 after losing Andrew Luck to the NFL Draft. Luck will be replaced by junior Brett Nottingham. The Cardinal open up against #9 Notre Dame in South Bend. We will find out right off the bat if Nottingham can back up their high ranking. In a similar situation, Boise State will begin a new era without their program's greatest quarterback Kellen Moore. Boise is ranked #10. Houston reached the National Championship last year by the draw of the BCS system and beat Boise State. Houston was not as lucky this year while they were ranked #25. As it goes for Notre Dame, they play four teams in the top 25 preseason poll; #2 Stanford, #15 Michigan, #16 Michigan State, and #20 USC.

Irish Spring Report 2012
Irish enter preseason ranked #9
Brian Kelly put together a successful second season as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football coach. He managed to put together a 10-2 regular season and then beat the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. This year they enter the preseason ranked #9. Kelly and the Irish lost a lot of starters in the off season. To make up for it, Kelly put together the 14th ranked recruiting class in the country. Here is a look at Kelly's class.
OFFENSE PREVIEW
The quarterback spot was a problem for the Irish until Andrew Hendrix took over as the starter. Hendrix looks to be the future entering his junior year. This caused Tommy Rees to take his talents elsewhere. Rees decided to transfer to UConn. Cierre Wood went on to the NFL Draft and it looks as if George Atkinson will be the starter at running back. Atkinson will be backed up by sophomore Cameron Roberson and speedy freshman Brett Davis.

After plenty of success returning kicks, George Atkinson will be the primary ball carrier.
Michael Floyd graduated and also went on to the NFL Draft. Returning at wide receiver are Theo Riddick, TJ Jones, Robby Toma, and Davaris Daniels. Coming in as freshman are Louis McNeil and Travis Horner. Both are big 6'4" receivers who can aslo fly. McNeil looks to make an impact right away and maybe crack the starting lineup. Tyler Eifert is back for his senior year and will start at tight end.

Andrew Hendrix maturation will be key to Notre Dame's success.
DEFENSE PREVIEW
The defense is going to have to fill a lot of holes. Here are the starters they lost.

Aaron Lynch is primed to have a huge year.
As a freshman in limited playing time, Aaron Lynch recorded 9.5 sacks. He will be leading a young d-line. Manti Te'o returns for his senior year as arguably the nation's best linebacker. Zeke Motta will start at strong safety and free safety is still a question mark with a sophomore and two freshman competing for the job. Lo Wood will start at corner with junior Joe Romano on the other side.

Reigning "Lineback of The Year" Manti Te'o is returning for his senior year.

Notre Dame caps off successful season with bowl win

Andrew Hendrix had the best game of his young career with 360 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Andrew Hendrix had the greatest performance of his young collegiate career on New Year's Day against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. But it did not start off as planned. The Cowboys struck early and often to score 21 first quarter points. State quarterback Brandon Weedon gave the Irish defense fits all day. He passed for 564 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.
After going down 21-3 in the closing moments of the first quarter, Hendrix called the entire team to a huddle on the sideline. "He fired everybody up for sure. He said this is the biggest game of our lives and we couldn't wait till halftime to make adjustments. We had to start right now and score at the end of this quarter" said wide receiver Michael Floyd. Well they did exactly that. In 30 seconds Hendrix threw two passes, one to Floyd for 37 yards and then hit T.J. Jones for a 31 yard touchdown.

Lo Wood picks off Brandon Weedon and returns it for six.
This fired up the defense as well. To start the second quarter, Lo Wood picked off Weedon and returned it 39 yards for six to make it 17-21 Cowboys. The defense made another stop and then Hendrix was at it again. He hooked up with T.J. Jones again on a 69 yard touchdown to take the lead 24-21. OK State answered on a Weedon touchdown pass to go back up 28-24. Hendrix then hooked up with Michael Floyd twice in the last three minutes to go ahead 41-28 into halftime.

Michael Floyd catches one of his two touchdown passes.
Brian Kelly used Cierre Wood and Jonas Gray to run the clock in the second half. Wood really got going in the second half scoring on a 80 yard touchdown run. He finished with 270 yards on the ground. The defense played much better in the second half and was able to limit OK State to 13 points. "It was a huge win for our program. Football never stops though. Got to prepare for next year" said coach Kelly. The future looks bright for the Irish.

Cierre Wood's career day leads Irish over Stanford in thrilling finish
ND 34 STAN 31

Cierre Wood had a career day with 277 all purpose yards and three touchdowns.
Where do I start? I'm having trouble where to start this story on the meeting between Notre Dame and the Stanford Cardinal. I guess I'll start with the magnitude of this win for the Irish. This is the biggest win for Notre Dame in years. Not only did Brian Kelly and the Irish win, they did it in stunning fashion.
The Heisman hopeful Andrew Luck came into the game probable with a strained knee. Well on the first drive he looked just fine. The Cardinal scored on the first drive in under a minute. The Irish were shaken, but settled down and matched that with a drive of their own. Cierre Wood capped it off with a 5 yard touchdown. It was tied up 7-7 at the end of the first.

Harrison Smith picks off Andrew Luck in the endzone for his ninth interception of the year.
The Irish defense stepped up and held two drives to field goals in the second. That made it 13-7. With two minutes left in the quarter, Hendrix led Notre Dame on a scoring drive. He hooked up with Cierre Wood on a 16 yard screen pass for the touchdown. Stanford got the ball back and tried to score before the half ran out. Harrison Smith again stepped up in a big spot as he has done all year. Smith picked off Andrew Luck in the endzone with just seconds left. Irish went into the half leading 14-13.
Irish started the third quarter with a field goal drive to go up 17-13. Luck answered with a 28 yard touchdown to Chris Owusu to take the lead 20-17. Stanford then opened up the fourth quarter with a field goal and went up 23-17.
All game Cierre Wood was utilized by Brian Kelly. The first three quarters, Wood was moving the offense but at a slower pace. When the fourth quarter arrived, so did some breakout runs. Wood tired out the Cardinal defense. He busted three runs of 45 yards plus. Down 24-31, Wood busted off a 53 yard run and got hurt at the end of the play. Jonas Gray then came in and rumbled off a 25 yard touchdown to tie it up with 2:48 remaining.
The Irish defense then came up with their biggest stop of the year. They three and outed Andrew Luck and the Cardinal. Jonas Gray ripped a 17 yard run and Hendrix passed for three first downs to set up the winning kick. Hendrix let the clock run down to :02 and called a timeout. Nick Tausch then stepped up and drilled a 31 yard field goal for the game winning field goal.

Nick Tausch kicks the game winning field goal to beat Stanford as time expires.
" While it is a big win for us, the season is not over for us. What we do in our bowl game contributes to how we will start next year." said coach Brian Kelly. This is the biggest win for Notre Dame in many years. In just his second year, Brian Kelly has the Irish in a great spot for this year, next year, and years to come. As for now, this win will boost up Notre Dame in the BCS. Blue and Gold Illustrated will inform you immediately when news arrives of who Notre Dame will play in their bowl game.
