Note: These are NOT "No Switch Rule" Sliders, as much as they are "Play Defense" sliders...I rush as a DL / break the pocket, switch to tackle in the run game and occasionally switch to swat a pass...you don't have to be a controller jockey or button mash, but you do have to participate FULLY on D...

Big Thanks to Trojan Man for helping me with the set in both the development and testing phases, as well as StefJoeHalt, who also helped fine tune and test the set. JoshC also had some great insights re: penalties / concepts, that were implemented into the set...

The goal was to remain true to AP Default while addressing the following issues:

1) Lack of CPU run game

2) Too easy to move the ball on offense for the HUM

3) Not quite as challenging as desired, with regard to the overall performance by the CPU

4) No fumbles, that seem to be brought out a bit more by having fatigue at 70 and the "arm tackles" versus "body tackles" at the lower setting (45)

This is the set that we agreed addressed those concerns and brought about the most "Stat Accurate" results in all major and minor statistical categories. Nothing is perfect (lack of fumbles, etc.), but as seasoned players know, this is a title of "trade offs".

The "little stats" like Pancakes / BTK / YAC for HBs / etc. have all been addressed and "leveled out" between the HUM and CPU players, to the degree that it can be!

Enjoy!

Been playing more games with your sliders. Only change from your first page is CPU run block down 5 and hum pass block is up 2.

Been getting great games and variety. Sometimes it's a shootout 45-42 for one game and then the next is 24-16. My last game was 34-31 where I held off a furious CPU comeback (my stupid fault throwing two dumb picks when I was going in to score...CPU got long returns and two eventual TDs).

I had a game where neither team could run the ball (1 yards per carry!) but both went nuts with the pass. Then the total opposite where runners had a huge day, but no one could throw!

It was weird, it seems the tough running game was where I increased the pass coverage by 5 (but it's back to normal now)

Aaron Rodgers continues to dominate the league in passing. He's on target to get 6,000 yards this year. He's averaging 50-60attempts a game though....Packers never seem to run! Oh well. You've said before it's not slider related. And he receiving corps are AMAZING....like 98s and 99 OVR s...

I play them soon, I'll report!

After having zero takeaways in 5 games i had 5 takeaways in my 6th game. Plugging in those auto subs must have been the trick. I have two questions:

1) Can fatigue be lowered without ruining stuff? At 70 my wide receivers subbed way too frequently. Even had running backs playing wr on long drives.

2) Can Def PI be lowered safely? Almost every deep ball ended up being PI. Was a real bummer.

# 138 Josiphos @ Mar 24
Which auto subs are you using? And they affect gameplay?

I've been using my own concoction of auto subs, basically designed to keep everyone really fresh.

Let me know thanks!

# 139 KingV2k3 @ Mar 24
@Josiphos: The auto Sub settings for this set are in the blog entry below Sliders and Settings in my Arena:

http://www.operationsports.com/KingV...m16-auto-subs/

@eastcoast49ers:

1) You can lower fatigue without changing gameplay too much...I'd try 65 first, then compare to 60, etc...

2) DPI calls are few and far between, so it might have been a "small sample" issue...if you change it, I wouldn't go lower than 55 / 58 or possibly 55 / 55 or the increased separation leads to inflated passing stats...

King, I wanted to say "thank you!" for sharing your research and settings. I returned to Madden this year after quite a few years away, and your settings have made the return very enjoyable!

One small confirmation - you do NOT use 32 team control correct? I have been with your settings and it works fine. I like to adjust CPU depth charts, etc.

Thanks again!

# 141 KingV2k3 @ Mar 25
You are most welcome and thank YOU, guinness22!

Glad you're having a good experience with the game...

I don't use 32 team control, but others have with this set and, like you, report that it does work just fine...

Regards!

Just played an epic game of Madden

So I've been heading for a collision with the Packers for about three seasons now. Just missed them in the playoffs last year, as somehow someone beat them (Seahawks?). Aaron Rodgers set the passing season record last year and is set to beat his own record this year. Packers are a juggernaut. I was thinking it was just passing, but Lacy is averaging over 100 yards a game and they are just DEMOLISHING people. So with that in mind, me my Raiders and the NFLs #1 defense head into Lambeu...

The first 30 minutes, I had to wonder if I set the game to rookie. Packers are fumbling and I'm playing great. Rodgers is playing well, but I manage to stop them in the red zone a few times. They get one field goal and miss another long one. I'm up 17-3 when I kick off and blow up their returner for a scoop fumble score. 24-3 on the road in Lambeau! It's a laugher ! I actually knock Rodgers out of the game for 2 quarters on a viscous hit.

Then I get greedy.

I force them to punt with 56 seconds left. I try and pass to get into field goal range, but their defense comes alive and gets some bad sacks. I have to punt into the wind and they end up with great field take advantage of a completely cheap roughing the passer and defensive PI to move down to my red zone. The backup QB is suddenly playing like Joe Montana and they score on a contested jump ball with no time remaining. 24-10 at the half....and I start to think it's going to be a battle after all.

I get the ball after half and wow, I can do nothing. Their defense seems to have 15 guys on the field. Over the course of about one quarter I lose the following people for multiple week injuries: my stud QB, my #1 CB, my #2 CB, my #1 FS, my #1 WR (I'm not done yet), my #1 HB for 2 quarters, and my #1 TE!!!!! They have also lost Rodgers, a few WRs and some safeties. This game was BRUTAL.

My backup QB is mediocre and starts throwing horribly inaccurate picks. Like the target is wide open, and he sails it 10 yards over to the waiting CB. Misses wide open guys on 3rd down and WRs drop passes that hit them in the hands. All of this and some horrible penalties combine to allow the Packers to storm back and tie the game at 24-24. About 1 quarter left.

The game kind of grinds to a punt fest and time ticks away. I get good field position and manage to grind out a tough tough drive to get a TD, 31-24. But then....Rodgers comes back. Holy unstoppable batman. He goes through me in about 45 seconds for a 80 yd TD drive. I might as well have had no one on the field.

I get the ball and try and grind out the clock and get a field goal to win it, but I can only manage to run off all but 38 seconds before I'm forced to kick a field goal.

38 seconds, no timeouts and Aaron Rodgers....yeah....

He throws and amazing jump ball bomb that his guy somehow catches while on the ground....spikes it, gets a 20 yards sideline route that was impossible to stop and calls a perfect screen pass that I barely manage a tackle at the last minute. They get out of bounds though and kick a field goal with no time left.34-34 overtime....

So I lose the toss and then screw up which way to defend as the stupid wind direction thing is impossible to figure out. Wouldn't matter anyway and Rodgers throws a 40 yards screen pass (damn things are impossible to stop) and then throws a perfect back shoulder throw to a double covered guy in the end zone....unreal.

Let's just say I was exhausted....but it was an epic game. I might have lost both the war and the battle on this one as the after game butchers bill was : one Corner out 6 weeks, the other 5, my stud QB out 4 weeks and my TE out 5.

OUCH!

Let's just say I'm hoping The packers make it to the Super Bowl.

I'm itching for a rematch on a neutral field, with all my best players. I feel pretty good losing in overtime at Lambeau missing most of my first team offense and defense. I still think I win that game if I don't get greedy in the first half and I just run out the clock....lesson learned....

Yeah, itching for revenge.

Heck to the yeah, Josiphos!

It's so much more immersive when you can rack up multiple seasons and develop actual rivalries within the game...

Glad to see that happening for you...

Playing as TEN, I came to despise HOU and esp. their Madden Generated Rookie QB...he came into the league after Season One and frustrated the heck out of me for years...

IF I was able to make the playoffs (over HOU and IND's "dead bodies") I had the "pleasure" of getting housed by the juggernaut that rose out of the Dalton era Bengals...

Enjoy!

My current enemies list are:

Buffalo, Dallas, Broncos, Cheifs and of course The Packers

Rodgers got hurt this latest season and has missed 6 games for the winless Packers....yeah my heart bleeds for them.

Mobile accurate QBs really make for a challenge. The jerk for the Cheifs was at 90% completions through three Quarters last night. Ended up at 80% after throwing a pick to seal a tough game for me. I could not stop him, no matter what I tried: if I blitzed, he hit the uncovered guy with unerring accuracy within a second. If I dropped 8 into coverage, he sat back there behind his impregnable line and waited till post corner routes came open. Press coverage no good, he'd audible to crossing routes. When I did manage to get him flushed from the pocket, he'd either scramble away for 10 yards or hit his WR who would come back to him as my corners just stood there with a dumb look on their face.

What finally got him was dropping 7-8 into coverage but bluffing the blitz. Also going with a 3-3-3 look and doing exotic roll blitzes or zone blitz. Got him flushed, but still had guys in coverage. He finally made some mistakes and threw some picks. I knocked him out of the game for the 4th Q on an ill advised scramble.

Was tough...and Dallas, Bills, and the Broncs have QBs just like him...

Hey King,

So I deleted the tuner, uploaded all of your numbers, and have had great results. I've been using the Eagles and am halfway through year 2. The only change I made about halfway through was the lowering of RTP you recommended to another poster and it worked like a charm. They seem very realistic now.

The issue now is that I've only lost one game, and average somewhere around 40 points, and I usually spend the entire 4th qtr running the clock. I'm pretty good with the sticks and at playing QB, so I was wondering what you would recommend to increase the challenge, and to make the games a bit more of a grind. The sliders really play with a great balance, so even the most minor of tweaks would be welcomed.

Oh, and something I've found useful: Purchasing the "strip ball" trait for key defensive players really seems makes a huge difference in the amount of fumbles you force. Year 1 I was near the bottom of the league with fumble recoveries, and half way through year 2 I'm in second place. Seeing some really great strip animations and some snowball games where a team coughs the ball up several times. I had a game with 4 earlier this week.

Hey kennypowers88:

Thanks for trying the set and weighing in...

After 6 full seasons with my TEN CFM, I moved on to NBA2k for a change of pace...

Before I did, I happened upon a couple things that impact the set in a way that might address your concerns / needs...

1) Turn the OPI penalty: OFF...with Ball Hawk engaged, the DBs are more aggressive than the receivers with this combination of settings, so the passing game gets tougher...

2) I worked off JoshC's Auto Sub findings and arrived at a slightly different set of values that have enhanced gameplay, esp. at the QB position...

Bump fatigue UP to 75 and roll with these:

QB Sub Out: 35
QB Sub In: 40
RB Sub Out: 90
RB Sub In: 95
WR Sub Out: 30
WR Sub In: 35
FB/TE Sub Out: 40
FB/TE Sub In: 45
OL Sub Out: 35
OL Sub In: 40

DT Sub Out: 80
DT Sub In: 85
DE Sub Out: 80
DE Sub In: 85
LB Sub Out: 45
LB Sub In: 50
CB Sub Out: 30
CB Sub In: 35
S Sub Out: 30
S Sub In: 35

3) I adjusted both RTP and Illegal Block in the Back to 55 / 51 and 50 / 51, respectively...

At this point, I've messed with the gameplay and penalty sliders so much that I'm confident that altering those will only send things "into reverse"...

Ergo, I settled on the OPI / Auto Sub stuff and by all accounts, it works...

Hopefully, it'll work as well (or at least close to it) for you!

Lastly:

You are right on the $$$ re: Strip Ball...traits seem to be the driving force behind the elusive fumble numbers...

In addition to upgrading that trait, I understand that khaliib's suggestion about using the default 75 man roster helps in this regard as well...

For whatever reason, the traits seem to be more apparent when using that roster...

# 147 KingV2k3 @ Apr 24
I decided to update both the slider and autosub sections in the blog to reflect the "Final" changes alluded to in the previous post...

14.0 / Updated Penalty Values / Update Auto Subs / etc.

# 148 kennypowers88 @ May 4
Hey King, I really appreciate the update. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try your changes until the false start glitch started, and now that the tuner is out, the gameplay has changed quite a bit. Frankly, I'm at about my wits end with this game franchise, but will spare you the rant. I have to assume you're frustrated with this as well though. Any plans to see if you can rebalance the game? Is there any reason not to just give up on this game at this point?

# 149 KingV2k3 @ May 4
Well, kennypowers...

This is why I signed out of the internet after the January patch and will be signing out after the September patch next year...

I'm gassed out from trying to rebalance the set every time they mess it up though a patch for an aspect of the game that I have no interest in...

From what I'm reading, I think they may have broken the thing for good this time...

Every year around late February / early March I move on to either NBA2k or The Show to recharge my batteries for the next Madden battle...

As a result, I'm deep in NBA2k mode this spring, so I don't see going back to the drawing board on Madden...again...

Apologies sir...

But they done got me to "tap out" this time...

# 150 kennypowers88 @ May 4
Unfortunately, my main CFM is online, so I had to stay connected.

It's funny I do the same thing around this time as well in terms of finding a new game to play. And it's not because I'm "bored" with Madden. It's because they've ruined the game beyond recognition. This year was the latest I've kept with it in a very long time.

Please, there is no need to apologize. Using your slider set and findings have made this the most fun I've had with Madden in some time. Loyal fans such as ourselves shouldn't be punished year in and year out. I'm very close to tapping out as well, but for good. I've been a longtime fan, and it's just clear that MUT and making money are a far bigger priority than giving loyal fans an in depth sports simulation. While I'm hopeful they can continue to "improve" the game, I've pretty much lost all hope in terms of how things are handled post release.
