20/21 Season Game 15 Nashville Predators @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs returned home to face division foe Nashville in a matchup of the top two teams in the Central division. In a tight checking game that had a playoff feel to it, it was the defensive play and goaltenders that owned the night. The first two periods ended scoreless, with neither team able to find an edge in scoring chances. The Avs finally got on the board early in the third, with Alex Galchenyuk scoring the type of greasy goal it takes in games like this. Colorado tried to play conservative for the rest of the final frame, trying to close out the game by getting pucks deep and forechecking. Just when it seemed the Avs would escape with a narrow 1-0 victory, Ryan Ellis followed his shot to the net and scored on the rebound with just 13 seconds remaining to play. The overtime period was all Avalanche, as they outshot Nashville 8-2 but couldn't get the winning goal. The game was decided in a shootout, Calle Jarnkrok being the only player to beat the goalie for either team.

20/21 Season Game 14 Colorado Avalanche @ Vancouver Canucks
The Avs traveled to Vancouver to face the Canucks in the second game of a back to back. It was a low scoring game that was ultimately the Tanner Pearson and Braden Holtby show. Pearson scored 2 goals in the opening 8 minutes of the game, and Braden Holtby did the rest as the Avs put everything they could on net. Bellemare was able to get Colorado within a goal midway through the first, but the Canucks put pressure on the puck all night, making it difficult for Colorado to generate quality scoring chances. The loss means Colorado's 6 game winning streak is over. The Avalanche return home to face Nashville after 4 nights off.

20/21 Season Game 13 Colorado Avalanche @ Calgary Flames
Colorado traveled North of the border to face old Northwest division rival Calgary. The Flames took the first game between these teams in a 5-4 overtime thriller. Tonight was another high scoring affair but this time the Avalanche came out on top thanks to a monster night from their top line of MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Landeskog. The first period ended scoreless, with the shots 13-4 in favor of the Avalanche. Calgary did a nice job of stick checking and limiting high quality scoring chances. The Flames defensive work payed off early in the second when Johnny Gaudreau put them up just 22 seconds in. The Avs answered less than 3 minutes later, tying the game on a goal by the red hot Andre Burakovsky. A little more than a minute later, the Avs found themselves in the lead after a textbook breakout play and some nice passing by the top line ended with MacKinnon finding the back of the net. Later in the middle frame the Avs took the first penalty of the night and payed for it when Noah Hanifin scored from a faceoff play to tie the game. The 3rd period began scoreless and was back and forth until about midway through when the Avs top line took the game over and scored twice in the span of 24 seconds. The Avalanche added a 5th goal with five minutes remaining, courtesy of Joonas Donskoi. The Avs head to Vancouver tomorrow night, looking to extend their winning streak to 7 games.

20/21 Season Game 12 Colorado Avalanche @ Minnesota Wild
The Avs took on hated Central Division rival Minnesota in the second night of back to back games. There is no kind way to put this, the Wild played a game that was disrespectful to the game of hockey. The Avs pummeled the Wild net all night long, but most of the shots came from the perimeter due to Minnesota's insistence on collapsing in front of Cam Talbot. In a game where Colorado outshot Minnesota 50-10, the only breakthroughs came from Joonas Donskoi and Andre Burakovsky. In the latter half of the middle fram Donskoi was finally able to break the deadlock on a greasy backhand in the crease. Burakovsky doubled the lead on a breakaway chance in the 3rd period. Unfortunately the Avs and Wild will play more games against eachother this season, let's hope that they end up better than this one.

20/21 Season Game 11 Ottawa Senators @ Colorado Avalanche
Coming off a thrilling overtime win against Tampa Bay, the Avs took on the Ottawa Senators in the first of two games on back to back nights. The first period got off to a slow start due to Ottawa's suffocating play in the neutral zone. The Senators controlled the offensive tempo of the game in the opening frame, but the Avs capitalized on one of their rare opportunities to grab a 1-0 lead. Girard quickly moved the puck out of the defensive zone on a play that sprung Compher and Galchenyuk on an odd man rush, with Galchenyuk finishing the play. Colorado upped the tempo in the 2nd period, turning the shot total in their favor, but it was Ottawa who even the scored on a Michael Grabner snipe exactly halfway through the game. With the score deadlocked entering the 3rd, the Avs continued to push the pace offensively, and it paid off early when Burakovsky finished his own rebound on what would eventually be the game winning goal. Captain Gabriel Landeskog added a 3rd goal into the empty net to seal the win.

20/21 Season Game 10 Tampa Bay Lightning @ Colorado Avalanche
Colorado took on Tampa Bay in a early season showdown that could be a Stanley Cup Final preiview. Though the two teams are loaded with offensive talent, the game was low scoring thanks to outstanding goaltending from Andre Vasilevskiy. The Lightning struck first midway through the first frame with a goal from captain Steven Stamkos. The Avalanche bombarded Vasilevskiy all night long but it took a greasy deflection from Nazem Kadri to finally beat the Russian netminder in the 2nd period. The 3rd period tightened up and neither team was able to find a breakthrough moment. The game headed to OT with the score tied 1-1. After typical frantic 3 on 3 play it looked like the game would be decided in a shootout. Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog had other ideas, as he was able to win the game with 5 seconds remaining in overtime.

20/21 Season Game 9 Colorado Avalanche @ Philadelphia Flyers
Colorado hit the Wells Fargo Center ice looking to get revenge for a blowout home loss to the Flyers earlier in the season. It was obvious early in the 1st that the Avalanche came to play offensively. Carter Hart was bombarded with shots all night, not getting a lot of help from his defense in front of him. MacKinnon opened the scoring by utilizing his elite speed to generate and finish a chance off the rush. The Flyers scored a shorthanded tally to get the score tied heading into the intermission. The 2nd period was all Colorado, the Avs getting goals from Galchenyuk, Saad, and Landeskog. The Flyers didn't go down easy, outscoring the Avalanche 2-1 in the final frame, but the Avs skated away with a 5-3 win in an overall dominant offensive performance.

20/21 Season Game 8 Colorado Avalanche @ Carolina Hurricanes
The Avalanche traveled to Raleigh intent on bouncing back from an embarassing 5-2 loss at the hands of New Jersey. The Hurricanes, one of the hottest teams in the league with a 6-1-0 record in the fledgling stage of the season, made life difficult for Colorado in the first. Their talented puck moving defensemen took away the Avs usual high pressure forecheck in the first period. The game was won in the 2nd period, with Colorado scoring 3 times and limiting Carolina to just 2 shots on net. The first Avs goal came from captain Gabriel Landeskog, the 200th of his career. They doubled their lead when free agent signing Alex Galchenyuk opened his account for Colorado on a delayed penalty call. The Avs put the game out of reach with another goal by Landeskog. Carolina got on the scoreboard in the 3rd with a nice snipe by Fast. Colorado finished off the scoring with a late empty netter by Burakovsky. 20/21 Season Game 7 Colorado Avalanche @ New Jersey Devils
The Avs travelled to New Jersey for their 2nd game in a lengthy Eastern road swing. Fresh off another early season shutout, Philipp Grubauer looked to continue his hot start. New Jersey's high pressure defensive style dictated the 1st period and resulted in a 1-0 Devils lead thanks to a Damon Severson goal. The 2nd period is where things went downhill for Colorado. The Avs were controlling most of the shot attempts in the game but were unable to solve Corey Crawford as New Jersey added two more goals to put the Avs down 3-0. The Avs finally put one past Crawford when Kadri scored his team leading 5th goal of the season off of a Brandon Saad pass to the front of the net. Entering the final frame down by 2 and needing a big period, the Avs folded instead and allowed 2 more New Jersey tallies resulting in Grubauer being replaced by Francouz. Both goals came from former 1st overall pick Nico Hischier. The Avs made the score slightly more respectable when Andre Burakovsky was credited for Subban inexplicably putting the puck past his own netminder.

20/21 Season Game 3 Colorado Avalanche @ Columbus Blue Jackets
The Avs headed to Columbus looking to bounce back from the ugly defeat at home to Philadelphia. They responded as you would expect with a high energy first period, but the Blue Jackets stingy defensive style kept the game scoreless entering the first intermission. The opening 3 minutes of the second period proved to be the difference in the game. MacKinnon, Rantanen and Kadri scored in the span of 2:59 to put the Avs up 3-0. They rode another excellent performance by Grubauer the rest of the way to secure the first road victory of the season.

20/21 Season Game 2 Philadelphia Flyers @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs got back to the ice to face off against Eastern Conference opponent Philadelphia after a winning start to the season two nights ago. It was obvious early on that the Avs weren't on their game when Philadelphia took a quick lead less than 5 minutes in thanks to a JAkub Voracek goal. It got worse for Colorado with less than two minutes to go in the first when Aube-Kubel doubled the lead for the Flyers. The 2nd period didn't start any better, with Couturier giving Philadelphia the 3-0 lead. The Avs pulled one back with a nice Landeskog wrister from the circle but Voracek killed any hopes of a comeback scoring his second goal of the game with just over two and a half minutes to go in the 2nd. The Flyers just shut things down in the third period and cruised to a 4-1 victory. The Avs will head out on the road to take on the Blue Jackets in three nights time.
