20/21 Season Game 62 Colorado Avalanche @ Nashville Predators
Colorado played the second of back to back road games Tuesday night in Nashville. The Avs blew the Preds out last time these teams played, and tonight Nashville returned the favor. The first period was evenly played, both teams finding the scoreboard a minute apart via Calle Jarnkrok and J.T. Compher. In a game that looked like it would be a tight contest between two playoff teams, Colorado absolutely imploded in the second period. They gave up a goal early in the frame on an Arvidsson snipe from the slot. Then just before midway through, Colorado found themselves down by two when Filip Forsberg scored after some questionable goaltending by Francouz. With just under 5 minutes to play in the second Galchenyuk scored his 20th of the season and it looked like the Avs were back in it but two Nashville goals by Borowiecki and former Av Rocco Grimaldi less than a minute apart stretched the Predators lead to three goals. Three of Mark Borowiecki's four goals this season have come at the expense of Colorado. The Avs couldn't really muster any sustained offense in what would turn out to be a scoreless 3rd period and Nashville sent Colorado back to Denver with a 5-2 loss. The Avs return home to face Florida on Thursday, which is also the trade deadline. Colorado may look at available deals to strengthen in net, which seems to be the glaring weakness of an otherwise strong team. It was announced after the game that Sam Girard sustained an upper body injury and would miss some time.

20/21 Season Game 61 Colorado Avalanche @ Chicago Blackhawks
The Avs and Blackhawks faced off at the United Center for the first of back to back situation on the road for Colorado. The Avs started well but Malcolm Subban was locked in from the initial puck drop. After weathering an early storm from the Avs, the Hawks got on the board midway through the opeing period on a goal from Dylan Strome. The Avs got an opportunity on the powerplay but couldn't convert, and shortly after the penalty expired they found themselves down by two as Kirby Dach won a battle in the corner and backhanded the puck under the inconsistent Grubauer. The Avs would have liked to put on the pressure to get back in the game in the second period, but they took three penalties and couldn't find a rhythm. Still trailing by 2 goals to start the third, the Avs threw everything they could at Subban and the Hawks, and finally got one past the Chicago netminder when Galchenyuk took a nice stretch pass from Makar and found Kadri in front for his 19th of the season. The Avs continued to seartch for the tying goal but were deflated when Jonathan Toews put a loose puck past an out of position Grubauer to ice a 3-1 Hawks win. The Avs get right back to action tomorrow night in Nashville.

20/21 Season Game 60 Winnipeg Jets @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs hosted Winnipeg to conclude their three game homestand before heading on the road for a back to back against Chicago and Nashville. Winnipeg has struggled all season and tonight was no different. The Avs controlled the puck from the opening faceoff and found themselves in the lead just under eight minutes in when Brandon Saad backhanded his own rebound past Hellebuyck. Just three minutes later the Avs doubled their lead. MacKinnon used his speed to burst through the center and create an odd man rush with Landeskog, the captain taking the feed from MacKinnon to bury his 24th of the season. Winnipeg cut the defecit to one late in the period on a fluke goal that deflected up and over Francouz and down into the net. The Avs would get a powerplay early in the middle frame but were unable to make it count, and just as the teams returned to even strength, veteran defenseman Erik Johnson took a penalty of his own. Winnipeg would put together a much better powerplay than the Avs had, and tie the game on a Blake Wheeler goal despite being outplayed for much of the contest. In the last minute of the second period, Bellemare would take over the game, scoring twice in 50 seconds. Up by two to start the final stanza, Colorado continued to dominate the game. Just under 8 minutes in Bellemare won a faceoff back to Graves who blasted a slap shot past Hellebuyck to make it 5-2 Colorado. The assist made it a 4 point night for the French centerman on a night when his line did the heavy lifting for Colorado. The Avs weren't done yet, Mikko Rantanen got in on the scoring as he collected a loose puck and beat Hellebuyck from close range to put the final touch on a 6-2 Avs victory.

20/21 Season Game 59 Vegas Golden Knights @ Colorado Avalanche
Colorado took the ice against Vegas looking to bounce back from the blowout loss at the hands of the Blues. Colorado played much better this time around, able to control puck possession throughout the game. They enjoyed the majority of the chances in the first period but couldn't find a way past standout goalie Robin Lehner. They kept up the pressure to start the second, and just over halfway through the middle frame they got the breakthrough they were looking for when Nazem Kadri one timed a Galchenyuk pass on the power play. Just four minutes later they got some breathing room as Martin Kaut sniped past Lehner short side after receiving a nice stretch pass from Makar. Early in the third they really put the game out of reach as MacKinnon stickhandled past a couple Golden Knights players and found Galchenyuk who fired home to put the Avs up by three. The Avs found themselves in penalty trouble often throughout the third, but the PK unit played a strong game and even added a late shorthanded goal off the stick of Nichushkin that ended Lehner's night. Francouz was able to stop all 19 shots he faced to earn the shutout and a start against Winnipeg on Saturday.

20/21 Season Game 58 St. Louis Blues @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs began a three game home stand tonight against St. Louis. The Blues came to town determined to snap a four game losing streak, and they broke out of their slump in a big way. Colorado got dominated in all facets of the game from start to finish. St. Louis established their forecheck early in the first period, and Colorado's inability to move the puck out of their zone cost them when Zach Sanford capitalized on a Ryan Graves turnover to give the Blues a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Colorado began the second on the PK, and took another penalty trying to kill it off, giving the Blues a two man advantage. They wasted no time, as Bozak scored off of the ensuing faceoff play. Midway through the second the Blues would extend their lead to three on a David Perron snipe, his first of three points on the night. It got worse for Colorado in the third as former Av Ryan O'Reilly scored twice in 23 seconds to make it 5-0 St. Louis. Landeskog would get a late goal to break Binnington's shutout, the lone bright spot for Colorado on a horrible night for the Avs. Tarasenko would cap off the misery with 13 seconds left in the game to give the Blues a 6-1 win. The Avs get back to work Thursday night against Vegas with Francouz in net.
