NBA 2K18 News Post

At this point, it feels like the NBA 2K series is in a perpetual state of success. I have enough faith in the series that even if no information was publicly available prior to the release date, I would still happily plop down $59.99 on day one to get the game.

But that doesn’t mean NBA 2K17 is perfect. So what did the developers get right with 2K17 and what could they do better in 2K18? Let’s take a look.

Better create a player options, especially hair and skin tones. After 5 years in my league all the younger players who are created characters look out of place

I didn't specify in which video. I'm just saying there is a lot of click bait 2k video from the community such as "OMG 99 OVERALL, FULL COURT GREEN, GOD GAWD GAWWDDDD"

they also need to make sure we can record and upload gameplay with audio from the game. whatever they did to have to block it this year....never let it happen again

I feel the exact same way. This is the first time ever that I stopped playing an NBA2k game within a month. I revisited the game after every patch only to just turn it off after a quarter of play.
something about 2k just wasnt right this year.

isten man, before some smart cookie comes here and says "why are you trashing this game 4 months prior to release, give it a shot, you are going to buy it anyway"... Let me ADDRESS what the hell these guys over at 2K also need to focus on aside from "server issues, vc, parkam, playground this, playground that"

If you are paying homage to KOBE BRYANT, one of the greatest of our era, please at least, for the love of god... Give us KOBE BRYANT to use in MYLEAGUE, SEASON, PLAYNOW. You guy's sold us on this legendary edition version for some freakin' cards. No, we aren't getting bamboozled again by you 2k.

PUT IN A top 10 greatest SHAQ moments, let us have a few versions of Shaq to use, add in a new Shaq classic team, FIX his Body, Fix his face.

Let us EXPERIENCE SHAQ not just get some bonus VC, shoes for in game... blah blah... cards yay lets go to the play ground and play with these players we got smfh

Also, fix defense, fouls and authenticity of every arena. Playoff atmosphere still needs work, as the crowd sometimes does not even make a sound during clutch moments.

Ive have enjoyed NBA2k17 tremendously, and Im still playing it, which hasnt ever happened since I started playing MLBTS back in 2009, once MLBTS is released NBA2k has always been left idle, and basically never touched again.

However there are things that need improved if Im going to buy NBA2k18.

1- as the OP stated trading steal needs works, I know it wont ever be perfect, after all its a video game, but it could be better than it is.

2- This is my biggest gripe, simulated stats in MyLeague modes. While they have been improved upon, they still need quite a bit of work. Part of it is just poorly rated tendencies by the people who do the ratings for them, but some of it is just poor coding.
And if you cant get it right, make sliders impact simulated stats. Biggest fails in sim stats is not enough PIP for teams, and 2nd chance points. Also rebounds are too high, which is a result of the game counting balls that go out of bounds as rebounds.

3- Fix the timeout issue for the CPU, this has been a issue for 2 years now. What happens is the CPU dont use their 20 second TO in the 1st half, which results in them not being given that extra TO to start the 2nd half.

4- CPU teams never seem to switch to zone, and if I set my defense to auto, my team will never switch to a zone ever. This was a issue for atleast the last 2 yrs if not 3.

5- Put D-League back in the game. If you dont have enough room, then take out the classic teams and Euro League teams, but D-League needs to be back in the game

6- Also I would like to see all the fake coaches, GM's, scouts, and Trainers to be editable, as in being able to change their names, and appearance.

We need realistic movement and acceleration so we can't just fly around like madden and cover everything.

Hence why Slashers and Playmakers are good defenders in 2k. They can close out so fast after double teaming a low post player and contest a 3 point shooter.

On 2k18 let us be superstars like 2k14-2k15 but we get a max of two gold, three silvers, and 5 bronze badge equip for online play.

We can't equip an offensive and defensive for gold but only one type for the golds only for balance issues so you don't just get Dead-eyes plus Defensive stopper.

For rewards for myPark rep rewards unlock should be

SS1: 1 Bronze Slot Badge unlocked
SS2: 1 Bronze Slot Badge unlocked
SS3: 1 Silver Slot Badge unlocked
SS4: 1 Silver Slot Badge unlocked
SS5: 1 Gold Slot Badge unlocked
Legend: Free 2k19 legendary edition

So incredibly sick of seeing this. See Anthony Bennett. #1 pick. Awful NBA player. THIS IS THE NORM. MyCAREER not MyGOAT.

Plus you can average a triple double right after your 10th game on.

Want to be a beast? Adjust the difficulty, that's what it's there for.

I would say your attributes should reflect where you get drafted, but then the community would complain they couldn't get inside the Top 10 however they feel that they're great at the game and they know basketball then they would argue further the game is about you being the Greatest of All Time when it's not. That's an achievement to unlock, not the predetermined outcome.

My suggestion to 2K (since they're going eSports) is to put out the game YOU envisioned from the start AND DON'T CHANGE IT DUE TO TWITTER RANTS

The initial release (first 4 days-ish) each year is really good aside from bugs. Defense is great, it takes skill to win, finding an open shot is hard work.

Then people complain that they can't get to the paint, and "I miss open shots wayyyy more than they do in the NBA and that's unrealistic (based on what??)".

And then 2K is stuck patching this/that/the other trying to cater to all 5 million purchasers needs and we're left with a heap of patched mess.

Trade Logic please..... What went wrong was the was the servers for ProAm....What went wrong is the creation process for my career where you can only be one type of player.... what went wrong is that there are many animations that u cant walk pass the ball and pick it up with out diving

Oh Locker Codes if they are going to continue to give away "Special Cards" Get Rid of them!

The Best way to do it is give everyone access to a Free Agent version of the card, with only 3 contracts (adjust it by the card rarity if they want, i.e Pink Diamond - 3 contract, Diamond - 5 contract, etc)

- In order to permanently keep the card you have to complete 3 challenges with the card on HOF difficulty.

That way everyone gets a chance, everyone get to try the card out, but you have to work for it to keep it

I can't see how anyone could possibly consider gameplay a plus this year when the defensive AI and fastbreak AI have as many issues as they currently do. This is the first year since 2K's transition to the new consoles that I had to give up playing the 1 vs. 1 modes, because the AI was consistently making tons of defensive and fastbreak mistakes in every single game.

You should be able to count on Michael Cooper staying close to his man whenever he's guarding a dangerous three point shooter off-ball, but you can't in 2K17, because Cooper will randomly leave his man wide open, even when he's set to "deny" pressure and "no help" principles.

You should be able to count on Gary Payton's ability to get through a single screen and keep the opposing point guard from getting a wide open pullup/drive, but you can't in 2K17, because the AI doesn't anticipate screens very well, and it won't listen to your instructions whenever you tell Payton to play "over" technique.

You should be able to count on Ben Wallace staying underneath pick and rolls and protecting the rim, but you can't in 2K17, because he'll still step out and hard hedge during ball screens, even when he's been told to play "no hedge" technique.

You should be able to count on Blake Griffin running straight to the rim on odd-man fastbreaks for an easy alley oop, but you can't in 2K17, because he'll randomly drift out along the perimeter instead.

You should be able to count on J.J. Redick sprinting to the corner for an easy three pointer on odd-man fastbreaks, but you can't in 2K17, because he's just as likely to cut into the paint and get his weak layup attempt blocked.

And on the few occasions where a shooter like Redick does actually stay behind the three point line on a fastbreak, his defender will almost always be sagging too far back, standing underneath the rim, defending nobody.

If it wasn't for modes like Pro Am, which allow you to replace the AI with people who can actually execute a fastbreak and defend a pick and roll properly, I would have stopped playing 2K17 way back in November, because it only took a month and a half of playing for me to realize how fundamentally flawed the 1 vs. 1 gameplay is this year, to a degree that no amount of slider tweaking or defensive settings adjustments can correct.

I have to disagree with your gripe about the "30 different versions of a card". The multiple versions are what makes it possible for guys like me who spend no real money on the game to get their favorite players. I'll never be able to afford the diamond Towns or the diamond Giannis. But because those diamond versions exist, the amethyst versions are only like 15-20k (and in my opinion the amethyst versions are still pretty damn good).

What Went Wrong:

- The interface for starting the game up has to change up. After playing GTA after a long lay off and seeing how quickly i can get directly into a session i see how clunky 2ks is. From the start you should be able to choose to go online or off, pick a myplayer and pick a friends mycourt to join....

- The green lights and default shooting success set an unrealistic expectation

- The added ability to select an evasive type of lay-up with the right stick was welcomed, but not many...if any were NBA caliber. Double clutch layups by I.T, and Kyrie should be available for those capable while there should be layups that shield the ball or go higher off the glass as an option for others.

- Grand-badges

- the servers

arena atmosphere is still not even close to being right. i wouldnt be so critical of this had the last EA basketball offering not got this spot on. 2k seems to ignore it. it would be a much better game if you really felt like you were in the thick of things based on crowd noise and appropriate reaction to big plays at home/on the road/in the playoffs/finals.

2k needs to get better at allowing players to be effective using their strengths. to me, if you play with kyle lowry, you shouldnt have to work much harder than the fastest quickest point guards to consistently get by people. lowry should be able to use his strength at the position just as effectively as john wall and westbrook use their elite speed and quickness. IT should be just as crafty around the rim as he is in real life and not be penalized so hard for being so short.

when bigs or incapable defenders switch on to great offensive players, their ability to play good/great one on one defense is too high. there should be a big issue with rudy gobert being left on an island with steph curry.

fast break logic needs to be fixed. even when i am a step or 2 ahead of the nearest defender, he always seems to either have an extra burst or lock me into a grabbing animation to slow me down.

looking fwd to the game being more strategic in defense instead of unrealistic based on attributes. i.e. call for the double team so gobert doesnt get his ankles broken against curry and allow the offense and defense to react from there instead of making goberts footwork just good enough to stay with curry. and/or make gobert take several steps up or back to take away one thing and give up another

bring back the old substitution menu. having to sub individual players in timeout situations instead of being able to sub whole lineups isnt ideal.

seems as if controls like "no threes" doesnt work at all. there have been games where i have made this change on the fly and the opposing team made 3 more wide open 3s in a row.

i only play offlin e franchise/gm modes btw

this game is incredibly fun, hope to see it improve.

I think the game should focus on simple basketball again

Grand badges , 5 HOF badges , automatic green lights do not seem very sim like. Espically for an esport.

I agree. I think the only badges should be the personality badges - clutch performer, wild card, etc.

AI player communication would add a lot. While defensive sliders let you choose a strategy a player yelling switch or similar information would be helpful on the pick and roll. Also this game needs a moving screen penalty slider. Finally, changing collision on drives. In basketball defense is mainly about preventing the defender from turning the corner. Instead of a lame bumping animation on drives, have the defense force the drive to the baseline short corner area. That is more realistic.

What needs improving? OFFLINE DEFENSE!!!!!

# 59 VAWereWolf65 @ 05/18/17 11:09 PM
A way to differentiate online and offline.

Let people in Park get consistent greens and let people who want to play sim turn off greens all together

People say servers haven't improved ever..,they must be too young to remember 2K 5 years ago. Light years better now...not saying they are good but waiting an hour to get a crew match going lol...or an online association game dropping out every 5 minutes or right at tip off. It was bad and that was only a few years ago
