Re: What Went Right in NBA 2K17, What Needs Improving in NBA 2K18

We need realistic movement and acceleration so we can't just fly around like madden and cover everything.

Hence why Slashers and Playmakers are good defenders in 2k. They can close out so fast after double teaming a low post player and contest a 3 point shooter.

On 2k18 let us be superstars like 2k14-2k15 but we get a max of two gold, three silvers, and 5 bronze badge equip for online play.

We can't equip an offensive and defensive for gold but only one type for the golds only for balance issues so you don't just get Dead-eyes plus Defensive stopper.

For rewards for myPark rep rewards unlock should be

SS1: 1 Bronze Slot Badge unlocked
SS2: 1 Bronze Slot Badge unlocked
SS3: 1 Silver Slot Badge unlocked
SS4: 1 Silver Slot Badge unlocked
SS5: 1 Gold Slot Badge unlocked
Legend: Free 2k19 legendary edition

So incredibly sick of seeing this. See Anthony Bennett. #1 pick. Awful NBA player. THIS IS THE NORM. MyCAREER not MyGOAT.

Plus you can average a triple double right after your 10th game on.

Want to be a beast? Adjust the difficulty, that's what it's there for.

I would say your attributes should reflect where you get drafted, but then the community would complain they couldn't get inside the Top 10 however they feel that they're great at the game and they know basketball then they would argue further the game is about you being the Greatest of All Time when it's not. That's an achievement to unlock, not the predetermined outcome.

My suggestion to 2K (since they're going eSports) is to put out the game YOU envisioned from the start AND DON'T CHANGE IT DUE TO TWITTER RANTS

The initial release (first 4 days-ish) each year is really good aside from bugs. Defense is great, it takes skill to win, finding an open shot is hard work.

Then people complain that they can't get to the paint, and "I miss open shots wayyyy more than they do in the NBA and that's unrealistic (based on what??)".

And then 2K is stuck patching this/that/the other trying to cater to all 5 million purchasers needs and we're left with a heap of patched mess.

Oh Locker Codes if they are going to continue to give away "Special Cards" Get Rid of them!

The Best way to do it is give everyone access to a Free Agent version of the card, with only 3 contracts (adjust it by the card rarity if they want, i.e Pink Diamond - 3 contract, Diamond - 5 contract, etc)

- In order to permanently keep the card you have to complete 3 challenges with the card on HOF difficulty.

That way everyone gets a chance, everyone get to try the card out, but you have to work for it to keep it

The practices themselves, though, can get boring after a while, so if you’re cool with missing out on the VC that accompanies practices, you can choose to skip them if you’d like. But beyond that, MyCareer is a blast to play.

It sounds like you didn't really play MyCareer? That's cool, but you should mention it in your write-up.

Practices aren't for VC, they are for Attribute bars. You have to practice 7 times to get 1 attribute (total of 25 available) and it has nothing to do with VC.

You also have to practice to get +1 in certain attributes like stamina, hustle, shot iq... and you have to do Scheduled Practices to get +1 in Free Throws.

And you didn't even mention the badges... which require you to perform the same move thousands of times over and over and over and over and over and over again.

The problem with a lot of 2k reviews is that the reviewers don't play the entire game.... because there are so many modes. Again, that's cool, but I think you should put a note in the article stating that you did not play all the modes throughly enough to review said mode.

Re: What Went Right in NBA 2K17, What Needs Improving in NBA 2K18

I can't see how anyone could possibly consider gameplay a plus this year when the defensive AI and fastbreak AI have as many issues as they currently do. This is the first year since 2K's transition to the new consoles that I had to give up playing the 1 vs. 1 modes, because the AI was consistently making tons of defensive and fastbreak mistakes in every single game.

You should be able to count on Michael Cooper staying close to his man whenever he's guarding a dangerous three point shooter off-ball, but you can't in 2K17, because Cooper will randomly leave his man wide open, even when he's set to "deny" pressure and "no help" principles.

You should be able to count on Gary Payton's ability to get through a single screen and keep the opposing point guard from getting a wide open pullup/drive, but you can't in 2K17, because the AI doesn't anticipate screens very well, and it won't listen to your instructions whenever you tell Payton to play "over" technique.

You should be able to count on Ben Wallace staying underneath pick and rolls and protecting the rim, but you can't in 2K17, because he'll still step out and hard hedge during ball screens, even when he's been told to play "no hedge" technique.

You should be able to count on Blake Griffin running straight to the rim on odd-man fastbreaks for an easy alley oop, but you can't in 2K17, because he'll randomly drift out along the perimeter instead.

You should be able to count on J.J. Redick sprinting to the corner for an easy three pointer on odd-man fastbreaks, but you can't in 2K17, because he's just as likely to cut into the paint and get his weak layup attempt blocked.

And on the few occasions where a shooter like Redick does actually stay behind the three point line on a fastbreak, his defender will almost always be sagging too far back, standing underneath the rim, defending nobody.

If it wasn't for modes like Pro Am, which allow you to replace the AI with people who can actually execute a fastbreak and defend a pick and roll properly, I would have stopped playing 2K17 way back in November, because it only took a month and a half of playing for me to realize how fundamentally flawed the 1 vs. 1 gameplay is this year, to a degree that no amount of slider tweaking or defensive settings adjustments can correct.

Re: What Went Right in NBA 2K17, What Needs Improving in NBA 2K18

I have to disagree with your gripe about the "30 different versions of a card". The multiple versions are what makes it possible for guys like me who spend no real money on the game to get their favorite players. I'll never be able to afford the diamond Towns or the diamond Giannis. But because those diamond versions exist, the amethyst versions are only like 15-20k (and in my opinion the amethyst versions are still pretty damn good).

Re: What Went Right in NBA 2K17, What Needs Improving in NBA 2K18

What Went Wrong:

- The interface for starting the game up has to change up. After playing GTA after a long lay off and seeing how quickly i can get directly into a session i see how clunky 2ks is. From the start you should be able to choose to go online or off, pick a myplayer and pick a friends mycourt to join....

- The green lights and default shooting success set an unrealistic expectation

- The added ability to select an evasive type of lay-up with the right stick was welcomed, but not many...if any were NBA caliber. Double clutch layups by I.T, and Kyrie should be available for those capable while there should be layups that shield the ball or go higher off the glass as an option for others.

- Grand-badges

- the servers
